Microsoft tried to buy Nintendo before launching the Xbox, but Nintendo laughed it off
Son_Of_Dad and 3 others reacted to Joshie for a topic
This is easy to laugh at because it's Microsoft and how things turned out in the long run. But let's not pretend this same attitude has always worked out for Nintendo. The same "we don't need anybody else" attitude is how they screwed up the Sony deal and why Playstation has outsold Nintendo in the living room virtually ever since. Nintendo, as a business, is kind of a crapshoot. As much as I love some of my 3DS/Switch collection, I can't deny they seem to survive solely on name, an obsolete reputation, and a handful of exclusive IP. They certainly aren't riding high quality hardware, brilliant online features, cutting edge gameplay, or competitive pricing. 🤷♂️4 points -
Sony discontinues most PlayStation 4 models to make room for PlayStation 5
ReAnimation and 3 others reacted to Yogurth for a topic
If you are hearing the PS5 has the performance advantage, you might want to skip relying on those sources in the future. Even giving those sources the benefit of the doubt, they are intentionally misleading people. The Xbox Series only shipped the release and full RDNA2 framework to developers a little over a month ago. This means all the new performance technology in the Xbox Series is not being used in games, or even in the emulation layers. Every developer and tech level engineer or reviewer will also know this, it is not a hidden secret, and it was the cost MS was willing to pay to bundle the console around the newer RNDA2 architecture. Microsoft wanted to base the Xbox Series off the next generation of frameworks and architectures. They worked with AMD to design the technologies of RDNA2 along with newer CPU and SoC optimizations. (This is why the 4xxx mobile processors from AMD are as fast as their desktop counterparts) This means all Xbox Series current releases, including MIcrosoft's own internal emulation and system layers are using the older frameworks that are not designed for RDNA 2.0. This is also why Sony didn't want to mess with RDNA2, as they wanted to optimize their dev tools early on, even if it was leaving a huge chunk of new and revised technologies out of the PS5. So, in games currently shipping, most of them are fully optimized for the PS5, as much as possible for the PS5 architecture. Sony did not want to go down the road of post release optimizations like they did with the PS2, PS3, PS4, etc. This allows them to hit the ground running with essentially the same dev tools from the PS4 being used for the latest PS5 titles. (Which was probably smart for Sony to do, as it worked to get developer's to pump out new generation optimized titles earlier. This is why Sony went with the older RDNA 1.x architecture and frameworks. So if anyone is posting or telling people the PS5 has a performance advantage in ANY game, they are purposely lying or really not paying attention to the development or engineering community. The Xbox Series games are essentially using the Xbox One X generation of dev tools and GPU technologies. (Which is considerably less efficient, slow and less capable than the new architecture and framework.) Also, it is worth repeating, the PS5 is only using RDNA 1.x with Sony's Ray Tracing path added to the shaders. The XBox Series S and X are the ONLY consoles with full AMD RDNA 2+ architecture. (Microsoft worked with AMD to create RDNA2) Now, I'm sure 'fans' won't understand or could care less, as the performance isn't massive, but at around 25-30% even without the RDNA2 optimizations, it should have been enough to entice performance minded games. However, Sony highlighted the SSD BS - which turns out is slower with a higher CPU load on the PS5 than on the XBox Series S or X. Gamers instead think the SSD is more important than it is, and with Sony handing Epic 200 million to showcase Unreal on the PS5, gamers think the PS5 is as good. Sony also coasts on the myth that these consoles are from the same AMD CPU/GPU silicon and are what AMD handed them, and that they are essentially the same. Even tech reviewers like Linus Tech have made similar dismissive comments about the consoles. The truth is there is nearly a full generation of technology differences, and Microsoft not only added performance to the SoC design, they gave those improvements to AMD to use, which today appear in the AMD 4xxxx and 5xxxx processors. So if people think the PS5 has a faster SSD, and the rest is pretty much the same, performance or even visual features just won't matter to buyers. I don't get. Why are You when Microsoft vs XYZ companies are in question resorting from half truths to misinformation to fully blown lies. What is that You hope You will achieve? Every single thing that You just wrote belongs into one of the aforementioned categories. From Sony's chip is RDNA 1.x to Microsoft being the only company in this thread aside from AMD contributing to RDNA2, completely ignoring the ZEN 3 and RDNA 3 features that made it into Sony's APU to Microsoft SSD being faster...etc. As for Microsoft's GDK being late or unoptimized...You said the same thing for the last generation...EDRAM is still not being utilized fully, Microsoft GPU is 30% faster...oh Yes You claimed Direct X and Cloud will destroy PS4. We are all aware how things ended for Xbox One. It never got even close to PS4 performance, so colour me suspicious of the magical GDK as if Sony's devs will be sitting on their asses. Digital Foundry is a fantastic source on both Series X and PS5, You might want to check their direct comparison videos.4 points -

I see where this is going. Step back for a minute and look at it. It's a place for them to "dump" their apps which actually support and have useful live tiles. The writings been on the wall for some time but live tiles are done and it's only going to be a matter of time before they're taken out of the start menu in some future update. Having this sort of "news bar" where apps that worked best with the live tile idea all go makes sense, instead of just killing them all flat out. And trying to put them into the action center would just make it a mess. Having a "tile panel" you can turn on and off on the task bar works best IMO.3 points -

I must admit I find it scary in this day and age so many people actually don't have any sort of computer at home, just a phone, tablet or games console. When I was in School in the late 90s / early 2000s PC's had become affordable and most people seemed to have one, along with dialup internet. We'd go home and speak to each other on MSN Messenger, play games online like Midtown Madness & Unreal Tournament. I think its fair to say most of us just picked of a lot of general computing knowledge back then from been on them, even people who didn't have much interest in computers could use one reasonably well. Today as someone who works in IT, it seems like the attitude of a lot of people is "i don't do computers" they do everything on a phone / tablet, which certainly in education and the work place is not usually the best tool for the job in my opinion.2 points -

AI and ML are pretty broad terms, I don't see those going away anytime soon as they have uses in many areas. If you're saying they're hyped, I don't think it matters since those who care enough to dig into them are developers anyways. AI and ML as far as gaming goes are already showing what they can do with DLSS 2.0 for example. And if a game developer could tap into ML more for their games who knows what it could mean as far as how we interact with future NPCs in games going forward. This all comes down to the ability of your hardware though.2 points -

Pinal County Sheriff to man arrested with 450 pounds of marijuana: 'Dude, you can't have THAT much weed'

ELOY, Ariz. (KVOA) - Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb reminded the public Tuesday that it is illegal to possess more than 1 ounce of marijuana despite the passing of Prop 207 after deputies arrested a man with more than 400 pounds of marijuana near Eloy on Monday. According to Pinal County Sheriff's Office, 21 bundles of marijuana were seized after a vehicle was pulled over for a speeding violation near South Montezuma Road and West Cabra Way on Monday. The drugs, which were located inside the car, weighed 451.5 pounds. Officials say the driver, who was identified as Jesus Carmelo Juarez, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale, and transportation of marijuana. "Dude, you can't have THAT much weed," Lamb said in reference to the arrest. Juarez was booked into Pinal County Jail in connection to the case. Source1 point -

Really horrible idea. Public private partnerships don’t work. This type is actually worse. I suspect that they’ll invest in later stage startups, if they are smart. The only people calling TL2 rubbish may've been comparing it to Diablo 3 which is a bad comparison honestly. TL2 enhanced everything from the original game and was a solid game imo. The problem with TL3 though seems to be it's underwhelming compared to its own predecessors. Some of that is reasoned from the support MMO aspect they were aiming for, which didn't happen and left the game with this bland emptiness as I've seen described from various people. Even watching it wasn't particularly entertaining. tl;dr: I wouldn't buy it, but hey, it's on GamePass, give it a go if you're interested!1 point -

Discuss: What would you want to see in a Nintendo Switch Pro?
matthiew reacted to WinMacLin Guy for a topic
It’s the only reasonably priced portable console on the market and it has lots of fun games. Also, it is not really slow (though it does need a Pro refresh much like PS4 and Xbox One needed one during their life) and the battery life on the Switch V2 is great (5-9 hours of active use). The screens are on par with a more expensive GPD Win Max (screen is 6” at 720P which comes to around 220 PPI which is fine for portable gaming). The only major issue is the joy-sticks (and frankly you can find quality issues on the other consoles given all of these systems are aiming to be inexpensive gateways to the games; for example the DualShock 4 analog sticks also wear out and drift overtime and DualSense will do so as well given it uses the same analog pads; DualShock 4 also suffered from poor battery life; PS4 Pro was very loud; much like the Switch none of that stopped people from buying it).1 point -
