Because minimizing all my apps to look at the desktop for a few seconds is better than looking at my start menu for a few seconds, or looking at a widget on my taskbar for a few seconds how exactly? I have a number of apps open full screen, last thing I need is a widget always on top that's pinned to my desktop. And minimizing my apps to see said desktop widget is no different than clicking the above from the taskbar.3 points -

am I the only one that finds it ironic that the mockup for the new action center / notification area looks VERY similar to the one in Chrome OS? :lmao: also all I'm noticing with the start menu mockup all that seems different is they put empty padding around the outside of the menu so it's not sitting flush with the taskbar and side of screen. It just doesn't look right IMO.3 points -

Well, they got ahead of us https://www.youtube.com/watch?...ua2sE&feature=emb_title yep just finished watching this. man it's such a crippled OS.they've just tidied up some animations & UI elements slightly, moved things around a bit, but basically removed all the *real windows * stuff: the file explorer is basically just onedrive app, no control panel/admin tools/etc, no windows, system tray's gone. lol, it's essentially chrome OS now. Yup. I was hoping Microsoft killed this off in the background. Honestly, it looks nice. I want that control center in Windows 10 (with some things staying in the system tray). this looks like a desktopified windows 10 mobile but then it's meant for cheap, mobile devices(like acer chromebook tab 10), so this makes sense. I thought X would mean high end, and S would be a low end(as their xboxes are named).2 points -

In-office environment. That's one way to put it, I figure once most of the dust finally settles from this pandemic and things open back up, many businesses will decide to keep working from home as a option so they can keep operating costs down. Heck, easy to reduce office costs when a large chunk of your force doesn't show up anymore. Expect lots of empty office space to show up over time.2 points -

For the love of god Microsoft, fix the damn languages already. It's such an absolute s**tshow in Windows 10. I'm from Slovenia, but I prefer to have Windows interface in US English. It's absolutely insane how difficult it is to make this work. During install it literally asks you about interface language, regional settings and keyboard. And after install, just straight up trashes all that and ignores it. WHY?! Why Microsoft? If I tell you to set interface to English, set the frigging interface INCLUDING your damn apps to ENGLISH. Regional settings to Slovenia so I have dates the right way and keyboard language to Slovenia. But no, if I pick English for interface and Slovenia as region it'll for some dumb reason keep interface in English, but apps like Calculator and Alarm will all get localized, including their frigging name. So I end up having two entirely different languages mashed up together in single Start menu. Also for some reason it keeps assuming I need ENG keyboard layout and keeps enabling stupid language bar every time I start any Valve game. Like COME ON, this s**t has been going on for years. YEARS. WHAT THE F. Just fix this nonsense and make it predictable and consistent. How frigging hard can it be? Based on how broken it is and has been for years... very. I just don't get it.2 points -

The right place for this information is the DESKTOP, Microsoft, like you used to have a decade ago. You should have just fixed the security aspect of widgets (like Rainmeter did) instead of abandoning it completely and showing everything into a launcher people rarely use. No one looks at the Start Menu for more than a second or two and they sure as hell don't want their taskbar cluttered with this junk either. Is no one there paying attention to how people actually use their computers?!2 points -

I thought X would mean high end, and S would be a low end(as their xboxes are named). They are competing with Chromebooks yes, but there is no way they can complete with this, built upon UWP. What I think MS should have done is a simplified version of Windows that ran Android apps instead. They got WSL running (with official GUI app support coming), why not Android. If they plopped Microsoft Store with Android apps onto there, put their Microsoft Duo apps there alongside full Edgium browser they could have a great system on their hands. But no, still UWP. You really don't need that many apps on devices that this, and ChromeOS targets. In many cases the web apps work just fine. The only reason google is bothering with android apps on ChromeOS is because they want to try and upsell it to more areas and not just education. MS doesn't need to do that with 10X, though in 2022 it'll open up win32 support and true windowed mode for higher end devices unless the plans change. At that point the argument for apps is void, just run what you want. At least the UI will be more consistent. And this is exactly why I think, and hope, that Win10X will fail.1 point -

No mention of expandable storage. yes, looks like it is missing even in Ultra. Considering 4k video at 60fps (which i assume the power users will want, obviously) - is taking 45GB in 1 hour. how is 128 or even 256GB enough??? 4 hours of home videos and you are DONE. I mean l love Samsung, and I guess with time I will accept the missing 3.5 jack (not yet ready, but the quality over bluetooth is evolving rapidly) - but not the expandable storage - having all that amazing camera tech - and running out of space in a month - no cool Samsung, not cool!1 point -

If it has been frozen, then maybe it is because it works as it is and don't need anything added to it. My taskbar has some shortcuts to software I use and other stuff i find useful on it, but they are my choice. If i want to see what the weather is I can look outside, or use my phone and the news is depressing enough as it is without it being on the taskbar Right, you know the "I don't need it" or "I don't have a use for it" arguments are a dead end. Everyone has their own use case for stuff, that doesn't mean MS or others out there should stop trying new things and call it a day. Using your argument, why even bother to make the changes to the taskbar they did in Windows 7 when the way it was from 95 to Vista worked, as you put it.1 point -
