  21. Hands on with the leaked Windows 10X build for single-screen PCs

All the things it's targeting at this point. I'm sure OEMs want it to do more since it looks different enough and thus something more fresh for them to market to consumers. The OEM's want to damn sure that consumers know how limited W10X is or there will be plenty of angry consumers and lots of negative press if they don't. Yeah, until this can run Win32 apps, I feel like even calling it Windows 10X is gonna confuse and upset people who buy it thinking it's just 'Windows'.

  25. Well, yet again, Teams development team is focusing more on design (I am familiar with Windows and MS apps overall inconsistency) than on fundametal features like configuring Teams via GPOs (cruial thing for VDI environemnts). What about disabling auto-start of the app? Another example is auto-start of MSI installation where "OPTIONS="noAutoStart=true" simply doesn't work and start (install the app) it for any new logged in user...and many many other things which are pointed out via uservoice for very long time already, with many votes.

  26. Intel? Sure. AMD? Nah mate Oh, yeah! AMD makes the Ryzen chips that ... Apple still doesn't use. Microsoft does. And that has what to do with anything? That was my best guess as to why Intel is in trouble but AMD isn't. Speaking of which, why do you think AMD isn't in trouble? Apple never used AMD CPU chips in the first place so this has little to no effect on AMD He is one of those "M1 is faster than your i7 so x86 is dead" people Actually, I think it is much simpler: There is this whole population of the world who purchases computers. When Apple released M1, a larger percentage of this population purchases M1, and as a result, a smaller percentage purchases x86-based machines. Hence, the x86 manufacturers are in trouble. that in turn still doesn't mean AMD is in trouble since Apple never used them in the first place. It does. You see, AMD is fabless. TSMC fabricates for AMD. Now it is fabricating for Apple. Hence, AMD is in trouble. Intel is in trouble because it supplied Apple's CPUs and now, that revenue stream is gone. As for x86 being trouble, I agree that it isn't facing extinction. But, 20 million Mac shipment is something. TSMC manufactures for everyone. Apple, AMD, Nvidia, Qualcomm x86, Intel, AMD and Microsoft are in no trouble just because Apple's ARM CPUs turned out to be very, very good. Sure, you are blinded to that, but consider this... some people don't like MacOS. BOOOM! Shocker, I know!

  29. If they had continued the windows mobile 10, I strongly believe that major apps would have made a good progress on that. They should have naturally progress it to this level with sufficient apps, suddenly releasing an OS without proper apps is waste of resources.

  31. It’s a good thing Win10 is not changing so drastically. It’s a mature OS, and the last few years have proved to be a very reliable, stable, environment. Everyone is using Win10 now, and there’s hardly any complaints! But MS isn’t coasting. Windows 10 has gotten revolutionary changes under the hood. The OS is drastically different than it was a couple of years ago. New technologies like .net 5, powershell 7, windows terminal, vs code, ability to run VMware on top of hyper-V, Windows Sandbox, Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Game Bar, WinUI 3, WebView2, and the list goes on and on! Win10 updates are awesome now! And the proof is that no one complains about updating Win10 anymore like they used to! That says it all I like Windows. If you do heavy gaming and Office 365 work and development it is great. But for consumers everything is lackluster at best thanks to bad apps. Try to get your iPhone photo's on OneDrive neatly organized in albums with easy editing and syncing back the edits. Try the online photo experience with OneDrive and see how limited and slooooooow it is. If you put your music library on OneDrive you can't use Groove because your album art will not load if it is in OneDrive, even when you have synced the files offline. This has been a reported issue on UserVoice for years. Yes I know streaming is the future but everyone still has at least a few folders of albums not on services yet and an OS should be able to deal with basic stuff like this. Try do do some mails with the Mail app without it crashing once every day. You can't select a file to e-mail that is on your OneDrive and send it easily as a link. That only works on the webmail or full Outlook. Office 365 Outlook is not compatible with the calendar flyout on the system clock. That only works with the crappy calendar app. It is however handy during a workday to quickly check when the next meeting is. There are million inconsistencies like very old icons, the colored icon background that is still shown on notifications and dialogs, the choppy animation in task view that are there since day one, the terrible people app for contacts etc. So if a daily use OS out of the box is bad at handling mail, calendar, pictures and music and you have to use alternative services like Google or iCloud services to manage that stuff without hassle there is still a huge opportunity to improve the Windows experience. I really hope that Sun Valley update is going that way. But the reality will probably be that Microsoft will just pin a bunch of 3rd party PWA and electron apps and be done with it instead of improving their own.

Yeah, until this can run Win32 apps, I feel like even calling it Windows 10X is gonna confuse and upset people who buy it thinking it's just 'Windows'. Actually, it’s too late for that. Forget Win32 because iOS and iPadOS have not only mastered the mobile focused, touch first, secure, sandboxed environment that Windows RT/Windows Mobile/Win10X aims to achieve, it does so without compromise. I have used all of the major operating systems, and I can tell you without a shadow of doubt that with iOS 13, and especially iOS 14, Apple’s mobile OS is more capable, flexible, and powerful than any Windows tablet or mobile/lightweight devices, including those that offer full Win32 support with x86 chips. Today, iOS is MORE POWERFUL and FLEXIBLE than is Android. I never thought I would be uttering such statement. Not a single Android device can do HALF the things an iPhone or an iPad can. If you have used iOS Shortcuts extensively, you know exactly what I am talking about. To hit the nail in the coffin, last year, apple began introducing desktop class kb/mouse support to iOS, including mouse exclusive features such as hovering and scrolling. Plus, Apple added Xbox & PS4 comptroller support. Finally, the QUALITY of some of the iOS apps have reached the levels of professional, desktop class software. Just take a look at Affinity Photo for the iPad. At first glance you might mistake it for Photoshop running in full screen on a mac! To keep beating a dead horse and insult to injury, iOS achieves win32 level capability WITHOUT compromising on battery, performance, and security. With Windows, you are ALWAYS asked to choose between secure but too simple and powerful but un-sandboxed classic environment. iOS gives you BOTH. Microsoft should be embarrassed seeing how lackluster and unsophisticated win10x looks.

the problem of going with Linux is tech support. I tried Linux a few times and it was a maze. Linux people are so entrenched in the material that they don't realize how confusing it is for a Windows person. They think you slap on an interface that looks like Windows and that'll be it. And then they say go to forums and ask questions and that takes forever. With responses from people like you're an idiot for not knowing Linux. Linux in general is no more confusing than Windows or MacOS. You think it is, because you are familiar with something else. If you were to take three people who are completely computer illiterate and sit them down to learn one of each OS, they would find it equally difficult. Then, once they were familiar, and you switched them, they would all face a learning curve. There certainly is an elitist attitude with some Linux users, but jerks are cross platform.

Found it far easier just to use the keyboard and trackpad.

And it's still a stretch to say x86 as a whole is in trouble. While I am one of those that very much like to see ARM dominate on the desktop front that won't happen until better adaption happens Windows side which isn't likely to happen for a long time due to how that front is handled differently (The OEMs/ODMs have more say to that than Microsoft at this point). Plus there's the fact that Intel and AMD are starting to implement ARM style technologies such as the Big/Little core setup it sounds like so if those pay off and improve battery life then x86 will still very much be able to compete.

I've got a Surface Go 2, and all I really use it for is RSS reader, YouTube,, Sticky Notes, and the occasional web site or Office document. It's still in S mode after several months, that's how little I'm asking of it This 10X interface looks WAY better than traditional Windows 10 Tablet Mode for simple use cases like mine. The question then becomes.... can AMD, Intel and Qualcomm come up with CPUs powerful enough to make the experience really smooth while keeping battery life intact? Even the base model iPad is a lot faster at the same price point.....

Well, they got ahead of us https://www.youtube.com/watch?...a2sE&feature=emb_title" rel="external nofollow">https://www.youtube.com/watch?...ua2sE&feature=emb_title yep just finished watching this. man it's such a crippled OS.they've just tidied up some animations & UI elements slightly, moved things around a bit, but basically removed all the *real windows * stuff: the file explorer is basically just onedrive app, no control panel/admin tools/etc, no windows, system tray's gone. lol, it's essentially chrome OS now. That is the whole point... it’s not meant to be a “real Windows” client. at some point in the future, they might bring “real Windows” stuff over but that’s not what the OS is about. And thank the gods, I’m tired of this legacy stuff holding back progress

So much for the List of Shame (games I did not play due to lack of storage space). That is the ONE thing I am using these multiple bribes for. (Bribes? Remember, I called these payments coming under COVID-19 what they are - nothing less THAN bribes. It's not a party thing; I called the payments under Bush the Younger the same thing.)
