Polish government eyeing free speech social media law
wingliston and 5 others reacted to willgill for a topic
I never thought I'd see the day that Poland protects freedoms better than the US. While some are pointing out social media companies are private, so are newspapers and broadcasters. They must adhere to laws that social media seems immune to. There also seems to be a double standard with small businesses and to who they may or may not serve. There are haunting similarities to the Nazi rise of power: Nazi party was officially "National Socialist German Workers' Party" and promoted as a government for the people to give them back what they deserve. They started with a meager 2% popularity. They then took advantage of media and current tumultuous environment to spread propaganda. After gaining power, they bought a newspaper (Völkischer Beobachter) and controlled the message of other papers. Opposing views were squelched and those opposing leaders ostracized or executed. Poland obviously remembers the horror Nazis inflicted on them, while the US has forgotten.6 points -

WTF is even "native" software anymore. The browser might as well just be another runtime now. If anything, electron apps are less gross than Java apps ever were. electron apps are heavy and slow, I ditched postman that used 500mb of ram and started in several seconds for a native app do the same, use 50mb of ram and start in a second3 points -

Well, yet again, Teams development team is focusing more on design (I am familiar with Windows and MS apps overall inconsistency) than on fundametal features like configuring Teams via GPOs (cruial thing for VDI environemnts). What about disabling auto-start of the app? Another example is auto-start of MSI installation where "OPTIONS="noAutoStart=true" simply doesn't work and start (install the app) it for any new logged in user...and many many other things which are pointed out via uservoice for very long time already, with many votes.3 points -

Awesome! Ever since HD started becoming popular I've always disliked the wide aspect ratios. It might be good for movies (and that's debatable in my opinion) but for computing more vertical space really helps. I hope we start seeing more taller monitors for desktops also. And are there any Ryzen-based laptops with a taller display? At the very least, 16:10.2 points -

I use a Macbook regularly and I find the touch bar to be completely useless. Most apps only use it for one or two functions so 90% of it is wasted space. You lose 12 keys with tactile feedback to gain 2 keys with LCD display. It's just bad.2 points -

Intel? Sure. AMD? Nah mate Oh, yeah! AMD makes the Ryzen chips that ... Apple still doesn't use. Microsoft does. And that has what to do with anything? That was my best guess as to why Intel is in trouble but AMD isn't. Speaking of which, why do you think AMD isn't in trouble? Apple never used AMD CPU chips in the first place so this has little to no effect on AMD He is one of those "M1 is faster than your i7 so x86 is dead" people Actually, I think it is much simpler: There is this whole population of the world who purchases computers. When Apple released M1, a larger percentage of this population purchases M1, and as a result, a smaller percentage purchases x86-based machines. Hence, the x86 manufacturers are in trouble. huh? Apple's desktop/laptop market share is less than 10%... the percentage of that moving up to M1 is way less than that at the moment and probably in the next year or two will still be way less than that... Apple is not a threat to Intel / AMD at this time, all it will do is make Intel and AMD get more aggressive and most systems sold are corporate systems, who run usually windows or linux environments, they probably wont be switching architectures anytime in the next one or two refresh cycles Yeah. M1 will be popular, no doubt, but they are still machines that start at 1k USD.1 point -

Hence, the x86 manufacturers are in trouble. that in turn still doesn't mean AMD is in trouble since Apple never used them in the first place. It does. You see, AMD is fabless. TSMC fabricates for AMD. Now it is fabricating for Apple. Hence, AMD is in trouble. Intel is in trouble because it supplied Apple's CPUs and now, that revenue stream is gone. As for x86 being trouble, I agree that it isn't facing extinction. But, 20 million Mac shipment is something. TSMC manufactures for everyone. Apple, AMD, Nvidia, Qualcomm x86, Intel, AMD and Microsoft are in no trouble just because Apple's ARM CPUs turned out to be very, very good. Sure, you are blinded to that, but consider this... some people don't like MacOS. BOOOM! Shocker, I know!1 point -

I hate to burst your bubble but companies absolutely meddled with the government in the 90s and long before that. Perhaps the general public was less aware of it. Cronyism in its current form has been a thing since at least the industrial age. The way some companies and individuals amassed so much wealth was precisely by using their money to influence the government and make more money in the process.1 point
