  1. Hungary could copy Poland in sanctioning social media firms

  2. Hungary could copy Poland in sanctioning social media firms

all the major social media platforms have become active political influencers: selectively promoting some voices and suppressing others, providing a biased newsfeed to psychologically influence users, allowing spying on and profiling of users(particularly politically active ones), etc. While they are directly to blame, they alone hold the power in this, there's little we can do to solve the problem: treating them as private platforms that have complete authority over what happens on their platform will allow them to continue to abuse this large influential power to sway political opinion in a country in their interests. OTOH, if we let governments govern what goes and what doesn't on the platforms, corrupt governments can abuse this power in similar ways.

  3. Hungary could copy Poland in sanctioning social media firms

Hungary's prime minister, Orban and his corrupt party has bought up using taxpayer money virtually all of the press and media in country (with the exception of a few independent stations and publications), where they spread lies about their opposition and do not allow the latter to appear by any means and express their point of view. Because of that the majority of Hungarian people and the opposition is now using Facebook to communicate and to distribute and share information about Orban's corrupt government and the possible forms of opposition. That's why Orban and his similarly corrupt minister Varga want to also somehow moderate Facebook, Twitter and other media channels, so, their corrupt dealings won't be exposed there either. They invoke "free speech" but in reality they're the one who are the greatest enemy of that concept, and who are trying to silence their opposition by any and all means possible. This is just their latest attempt at going one more step further in that direction.

  6. I am surprised how unpopular this policy change has become. We've watched Instagram and Oculus become Facebook-ified right before our eyes despite the outcry. Guess, it takes a WhatsApp to actually make an impact. All major companies, not just Facebook, have been encroaching on our privacy for many years and consumers at large have been indifferent. People are now at least aware of that. I am happy.

  7. Well, that's one way to get rid of the comments about, "I already pay for CBS though my cable, why do I have to pay more for *CBS* All Access?". I still think Paramount+ is a silly name, Paramount is defined as supreme, the end all be all, but apparently a plus is even more Paramount. lol. But at least it's inline with all the other streaming services.

Nah...right-wing/far-right parties are just virtue signalling to their supporters. Signalling that they're doing what left wing/ socialist/ communist should actually do. Do what? Taking the freedom of speech under the guise of giving it? We've seen it before. If these rich politicians truly wanted an unmoderated platform, they'd set up their own web presence.

  9. Hungary could copy Poland in sanctioning social media firms

Judit Varga's post says no such thing. The word "Poland" doesn't appear in her post and she isn't speaking about forming a review committee consisting of non-political experts. She is speaking of an ad-hoc Digital Freedom Committee that is to be formed and discuss immediate hostile action specifically against Facebook and Twitter. At least, Poland feigned interest in the citizen's rights. Varga isn't even pretending; she is explicitly naming political demographics. Please note the overt presence of Catholic Christianity here. This religious group is the biggest proponent of censorship. They are the influence behind the notorious American Motion Picture Production Code, better known as the Hays Code.

There are several older paramount and CBS owned TV shows that I would pay to stream, yet the only ones online/digital are on mostly on other services, and not CBS All Access. I get the licensing deals, but there are ton of shows nobody is streaming they should be retooling for digital streaming and it doesn't seem like they are doing this. Just seems a bit crazy.

  21. Yeah, maybe someday Qualcomm will finally produce a SoC that can only run one OS. /s There is no reason Windows 10 (arm) and Linux cannot also run on bare metal with M1. Apple artificially prevents it. Thanks for confirming the M1 chipset can only run one OS. LOL That’s not what I said, nor is it true. Reading is hard I guess. You have already used the "reading is hard" bit int he past. Please get new material. Thanks. The M1 chipset runs ONE OS (natively) which is MacOS. TRUE! You have said nothing that contradicts that so we are moving on here. You said and I quote, it can only run one OS. That’s not because of the M1 hardware. That is because of UEFI and access restrictions Apple has in place. Read more carefully and I won’t have to use my old material. Yes, the M1 chipset can only run one OS! LOL Guess what? The Apple Axx series chips can only run iOS. Everybody knows Apple locks down their hardware. Did you think someone needed that explanation? My point was very simple... The M1 chipset can only run one OS. Please try reading my words. I know you seem to enjoy these endless comment loops but I am done now. Feel free to carry on... Some people refuse to learn. If you want to remain incorrect, that’s your prerogative. But let me ask this. What part of the M1 prevents other OSes from running on it. Read carefully. What part of the M1 prevents it? That means hardware. Stop acting like you are gonna run off when you come back for the last word. My prediction: you don’t have an answer, just a sorry repeat of what you said before. Who said the M1 is not able run other operating systems? Why are refusing to read my comments hypocrite? Do you not really understand the difference between what something is capable of doing and what it can actual do? Let me know when Apple decides to unlock their devices or licenses their chipsets to other OEMs. Until than... This time sing it loud and proud! The M1 chipset can only run one OS! One OS! One OS! it will happen whether Apple wants it to or not. it will just take a lot longer without Apple opening up but Linux will be able to run on the M1 natively at some point. here's a good article about the situation https://www.zdnet.com/article/...inux-to-the-apple-m1-chip/" rel="external nofollow">https://www.zdnet.com/article/...linux-to-the-apple-m1-chip/ Maybe, maybe not... I am sure someday Linux will be able to be "hacked" on a M1 device at some point. Does that mean it will be an actual practical option or more a proof of concept thing? Who knows? My point simply still is the M1 chipset can just run one OS. not sure why you're arguing semantics but in the context you're using it "can = capable" which the M1 is plenty capable of running other OSs even if it doesn't currently. The proper clear statement should be "currently only runs one OS" not "can" this conversation is getting a bit off topic now though arguing English semantics so please try and keep the conversation in relation to the article

This isn't a hack or an omission, but an actual feature that Apple built into these devices. That means that, unlike iOS devices, Apple does not intend to lock down what OS you can use on Macs (though they probably won't help with the development)."

I couldn't have said it better. 👍 Gathering up on someone else's private property to exchange free speech has given them the wrong idea. They are now feeling entitled to gather in that place. They are just freeloaders with a false sense of entitlement. And you know what else? Blind too. There is an insurrection in the U.S.; people are dying. Facebook takes action to alleviate it, but this blind Angela Merkel says "it is problematic." They have parrotted their political rhetorics so many times, they don't realize that life itself is more important than FoS, or any other freedom.

  29. Create a folder on my Andoid phone desktop?

So I don't know if the following is specific to my setup, but I've just tried the following: Go in to My Files (file explorer) and find the picture that I want. Select it, and select the three dots icon. Select the option, "add to home screen." Place the icon on my home screen. Repeat for a second picture, but when moving the icon on the home screen hover it over the first picture. This will put them both in to a folder (like Biscuits Brown said above). So the file explorer is My Files which I believe is Samsung's default file explorer, and I'm using the Lawnchair 2 launcher.

You do you... I will, I prefer to use local taxi companies, where the drivers are vetted. You have no idea who the Uber drivers are, they are not vetted and could be an axe murderer for all I know. Uber will put local taxi companies out of business, thankfully they are not here, and I don't think they will come here or any other taxi company like them. It is bad enough we get cabs here for another city not so far away. You have no idea who the taxi driver is either. Guess what? The Uber driver doesn't know who I am either. LOL BTW Uber drivers go thru a background check. I am pretty sure drivers are more likely to be assaulted than the rider.

  36. Polish government eyeing free speech social media law

ToS can be whatever the company wants them to be (as long as they pass legal muster), but they should apply the terms equally. Social media giants are not. They have and continue to ignore hate speech and violence from the Left. Meanwhile, they use a sampling of information from the Right to apply far-reaching bans and silencing techniques. There is no law against hypocrisy, but there is also no immunity from the public condemnation of arbitrary enforcement. In related news, Twitter and FB stock took a sharp decline.

  40. Brazilian government allows Huawei to take part in 5G auction

You might think cheap equipment is the only thing that will happen, but look at Africa, how they're pretty much colonies of China now with no way out. Do you ever post anything factual? Actually, the part about China's activities in Africa is correct. China has heavily invested in African countries buying mines, farming land and natural resources and they have been doing so for more than a decade. Several of these countries have become reliant on Chinese investment to prop up what is often a struggling economy. They are not anything like Chinese colonies though. Only if "colony" in your mind is strictly about a bunch of Englishmen and Frenchmen sticking a flag in the desert and forcing the natives to go to Europe and fight Germans in WW1, sure. But China lending money to an increasing and ultimately impossible interest, claiming all valuable resources in the ground and leaving them bare, and building towns and shopping malls with only Chinese people in them, is pretty much a colony by 21st century standards.

  45. Signal confirms service outage, restoration efforts underway

My single requirement that's absolutely must-have before switching to Signal messenger is a lean, full-featured desktop app of Telegram's caliber. Not bloated and based on Electron or any framework that uses a multi-process architecture with lots of RAM and Chromium's bulky payload, excessive use of JavaScript or Node.js runtime. Messaging apps that don't treat Windows Desktop as top priority with a quality app are not serious efforts. Try building an app as good as Telegram in less than 25 MB and taking less than 100 MB RAM and with such rich and amazing features, power user control. No one will be able to for the foreseeable future. And before all the people comment arguing that disk space doesn't matter and memory doesn't matter either as both are cheap, it matters unless you are willing to buy me free RAM and free MLC NVMe SSDs.

  46. Polish government eyeing free speech social media law

I never thought I'd see the day that Poland protects freedoms better than the US. While some are pointing out social media companies are private, so are newspapers and broadcasters. They must adhere to laws that social media seems immune to. There also seems to be a double standard with small businesses and to who they may or may not serve. There are haunting similarities to the Nazi rise of power: Nazi party was officially "National Socialist German Workers' Party" and promoted as a government for the people to give them back what they deserve. They started with a meager 2% popularity. They then took advantage of media and current tumultuous environment to spread propaganda. After gaining power, they bought a newspaper (Völkischer Beobachter) and controlled the message of other papers. Opposing views were squelched and those opposing leaders ostracized or executed. Poland obviously remembers the horror Nazis inflicted on them, while the US has forgotten.
