But you keep you option - and ignore the consensus surely you are right. I mean if you are new to them and you try them now - maybe you can find them boring. At release - they were mind blowing

It be almost laughable about how modern/UWA apps were suppose to be the end all be all, and here we are going all in on win32, if it wasn’t so disappointing.

  26. Motherboard help, hanging at startup splash screen

Just to bring you all up to date... While brainstorming the problem with some tech savvy friends it was suggested to remove the graphics card and just try running on internal graphics only. I thought my daughter had tried it already, but suggested it to her anyway. Lo and behold it worked! Windows had a little freak out and wouldn't start properly, be a quick auto-reinstall had that fixed and she could boot into Windows with everything intact. Then she reinstalled the graphics card, and it's all working again. Very odd. I'll talk her through doing a reflash of the BIOS just to make sure there are no hidden surprises waiting for the future, but otherwise it all seems to be good. Thanks for all who provided ideas and input.

I couldn't have said it better. 👍 Gathering up on someone else's private property to exchange free speech has given them the wrong idea. They are now feeling entitled to gather in that place. They are just freeloaders with a false sense of entitlement. And you know what else? Blind too. There is an insurrection in the U.S.; people are dying. Facebook takes action to alleviate it, but this blind Angela Merkel says "it is problematic." They have parrotted their political rhetorics so many times, they don't realize that life itself is more important than FoS, or any other freedom.

  37. "Independent" board....LOL yeah right. Helle Thorning-Schmidt, the former prime minister of Denmark, will be holding the title of co-chair, joined by two US law professors, Jamal Greene and Michael McConnell. Catalina Botero-Marino, Dean of the Universidad de Los Andes Faculty of Law in Bogota, will be the fourth co-chair. These appointments were made directly by Facebook. In combination with Facebook, these four then chose the next 16 members.

  38. Microsoft reportedly set to preview Windows 10 21H1 as build 19043

Wondering how they'll handle the extra year of Enterprise support. Normally, this just applies to the fall releases — Enterprise and Education editions get 30 months of support instead of 18. However, it doesn't really make sense to launch version 21H1 and give it a shorter lifespan than 20H2 if they are built on the same base release, so, will they do something different this year ...?

  42. Firefox 85 on Android will allow extension installs from AMO

Don't know about swearing by Mozilla, but it is my default browser on laptop/desktop. It was my browser of choice for a good while on Android until I could no longer install ublock origin. Can't stand Google Chrome so been playing with Edge for a bit now. Works pretty well although still not enough addon support. ? Use chrome extensions. If that ? means you're asking about using Chrome extensions in Edge on Android, I don't think you can. Not positive about that as I haven't looked into it in a while. Outside of Android, you can. The ? Was what you were referring to, since they work on both. Correct. Outside of Android, you can, but I was talking about Edge on Android. Ah, got it.

  46. Connect to your PC remotely with Chrome Remote Desktop from any device

It works fine in Edge. I don't use Edge, but hasn't that now become a fork of Chromium? I guess that would explain why the extension works. yes it is, but is faster and lighter than Chrome, another option for you could be to use Chromium, I guess it's even lighter and still support the extensions (but I didn'y personally try it) It also doesn't dump a chunk of encrypted data collected back to Google each week, which may also contribute to being faster. Additional Side Notes: Last time I reviewed partner security reports on Chrome, it was still sending 1-2GB of data back to Google from the desktop version of Chrome per user per week. This happens in the non-open portion of Chrome, and the data is unknown since it is encrypted. It also uses shifting and dynamic IPs to avoid being blocked, but if it does get blocked, Chrome will hand off the data to 3rd party websites that use Google Analytics, that backend the data to Google on top of Analytics activity. This is also data on top of what we know Chrome sends back to Google, which is again on top of data sent through search and other Google services. Just an FYI if anyone cares. Currently, Microsoft Edge sends 0KB of unknown data. (And let's hope this never changes.) I wonder if this data sending is a result of syncing between devices? Edge does not yet have history sync between devices but it will be arriving this month, which means it will be a requirement to send over the internet so that cloud sync can work, but yes it could be something else! I'd prefer evidence of what this 1-2GB per week is rather than speculation :P

  47. Google to add new password protection features in Chrome 88

I would not trust a built-in password manager. a standalone password manager is safer. also, I think those 'password strength' estimates can be so-so. so I would not put too much stock in that. if a person wants guaranteed security I suggest using Diceware for creating a password (hell, there is a way one can use dice (basically one uses three dice and with each roll of those dice it gives them one character pretty much) to generate their own random password for those who are paranoid and don't trust the built in password manager to generate them for you). or for those who want to take the easier to remember route and don't mind sacrificing their password security a bit, I figure if a person is going to use a so-so password, the least they could do is add some padding to it as it can take a so-so password and make it less likely to be compromised. for example... "MySoSoPassword" would become something like "..........My.SoSo!Passwordaaaaaaaaaa".

  50. Qualcomm acquires Nuvia, a startup founded by former Apple chip engineers

Yeah, maybe someday Qualcomm will finally produce a SoC that can only run one OS. /s There is no reason Windows 10 (arm) and Linux cannot also run on bare metal with M1. Apple artificially prevents it. Thanks for confirming the M1 chipset can only run one OS. LOL That’s not what I said, nor is it true. Reading is hard I guess. You have already used the "reading is hard" bit int he past. Please get new material. Thanks. The M1 chipset runs ONE OS (natively) which is MacOS. TRUE! You have said nothing that contradicts that so we are moving on here. You said and I quote, it can only run one OS. That’s not because of the M1 hardware. That is because of UEFI and access restrictions Apple has in place. Read more carefully and I won’t have to use my old material. Yes, the M1 chipset can only run one OS! LOL Guess what? The Apple Axx series chips can only run iOS. Everybody knows Apple locks down their hardware. Did you think someone needed that explanation? My point was very simple... The M1 chipset can only run one OS. Please try reading my words. I know you seem to enjoy these endless comment loops but I am done now. Feel free to carry on... Some people refuse to learn. If you want to remain incorrect, that’s your prerogative. But let me ask this. What part of the M1 prevents other OSes from running on it. Read carefully. What part of the M1 prevents it? That means hardware. Stop acting like you are gonna run off when you come back for the last word. My prediction: you don’t have an answer, just a sorry repeat of what you said before. Who said the M1 is not able run other operating systems? Why are refusing to read my comments hypocrite? Do you not really understand the difference between what something is capable of doing and what it can actual do? Let me know when Apple decides to unlock their devices or licenses their chipsets to other OEMs. Until than... This time sing it loud and proud! The M1 chipset can only run one OS! One OS! One OS! it will happen whether Apple wants it to or not. it will just take a lot longer without Apple opening up but Linux will be able to run on the M1 natively at some point. here's a good article about the situation https://www.zdnet.com/article/...inux-to-the-apple-m1-chip/" rel="external nofollow">https://www.zdnet.com/article/...to-the-apple-m1-chip/" rel="external nofollow">https://www.zdnet.com/article/...to-the-apple-m1-chip/" rel="external nofollow">https://www.zdnet.com/article/...to-the-apple-m1-chip/" rel="external nofollow">https://www.zdnet.com/article/...to-the-apple-m1-chip/" rel="external nofollow">https://www.zdnet.com/article/...to-the-apple-m1-chip/" rel="external nofollow">https://www.zdnet.com/article/...to-the-apple-m1-chip/" rel="external nofollow">https://www.zdnet.com/article/...to-the-apple-m1-chip/" rel="external nofollow">https://www.zdnet.com/article/...inux-to-the-apple-m1-chip/" rel="external nofollow">https://www.zdnet.com/article/...to-the-apple-m1-chip/" rel="external nofollow">https://www.zdnet.com/article/...to-the-apple-m1-chip/" rel="external nofollow">https://www.zdnet.com/article/...inux-to-the-apple-m1-chip/" rel="external nofollow">https://www.zdnet.com/article/...linux-to-the-apple-m1-chip/ Maybe, maybe not... I am sure someday Linux will be able to be hacked on a M1 device at some point. My point simply still is the M1 chipset can just run one OS. lol, so much contradiction from you. Care to explain? No. I see the feedback loop you're in with adrynalyne, I'm not going to join that mess. You've plainly contradicted yourself. All I'll say: You: My point simply still is the M1 chipset can just run one OS. You again: Who said the M1 is not able run other operating systems? You got called out, split hairs, and there's nothing more to be said. I agree there was nothing else to say as my original (sarcastic) comment and follow up remark were very clear. Your comment just severed to pull my remarks out of context. How about we add... Me: Do you not really understand the difference between what something is capable of doing and what it can actual do? hey guys. stop arguing about this. i keep getting notifications.
