  1. Microsoft doubles down on Win32

Yeah, it sure does seem like a failure both for microsoft and for users. Frigging developers ruin everything. I'm a dev, and for my personal projects I stopped investing my time in money in it due to the MS not being able to pick a direction, constant back tracking, and limited revenue streams. Between constant reboots, limited hardware support, and toxic fanbase putting devs down (ironic), it just wasn't worth it anymore. The market was saturated by the time MS took a win32 replacement seriously. It wasn't the devs. It was MS' complete mismanagement of a "post-PC era", as some like to refer it to.

120USD/year for Gold vs 180USD/year for Gamepass Ultimate Thank god I don't play console games. 3 full priced titles for the privilege of playing games I already own online on servers not hosted by Microsoft...

  16. Windows Terminal to gain Settings UI in the next version

Sure, and you have been able to configure the Windows console for 20+ years as well. Nothing new there. Windows Terminal isn't part of Windows though -- it's a standalone program that Microsoft built it from scratch as an open-source project. Combine Windows Terminal with Powershell 7, or Ubuntu userland, and you've got a completely open-source command line experience, complete with Linux kernel.

Exactly. I recently reformatted my Windows machine to get a fresh start for 2021. I installed around 30 programs... none of which were Metro/Modern/Store Apps. Just good ol' Win32 programs!

  19. There's plenty of other conservatives on social media, when you use one to mount an insurrection, regardless of right or left, the entity is within their right to ban them. The whole, "woe is me" fallacy you guys put off is ridiculous. You had a four year free for all, full of falsehoods, dog whistles, stoking, trolling and inciting, and well, it ended up in a complete disaster. Time for the adults to take care of the situation. Trump violated social media TOS constantly, and these companies stood back and just ignored it, in the name of the president getting his views out (and the advertising), he pushed the limits as far as they could go, until you had Trump supporters doing what they did in DC. Actions have consequences.

Bendgate was a thing for YouTube reviewers to cash out on. In real life it wasn't that big as a deal. Im my time in IT, I've only saw one bent 6 plus... and the user had it in their back pocket and then put their ass on a counter and leaned on it. I agree that phones particularly are getting uncomfortably thin to hold, without a case the iPhone 12 is particularly odd to hold, especially when you grip it.

how long till it's too thin and just bends/snaps like a cracker? .... edit: I've been asking the same thing for phones for quite a few years too (bend gate anyone? lol)

  24. Windows Terminal to gain Settings UI in the next version

Untrue. None of the Linux distros have a GUI for configuring their command-line shells. In most cases, those shells aren't configurable in the first place. I think that is incorrect all of Linux distro can if you right click and select properties you config some setting and some 3rdparty cli you can apply themes with in cli window. Truth. It DOES have a window that allows you to conmfigure it somewhat. ALSO, when did Windows EVER call it a "terminal"? They always used the term "command prompt".. Kiddo (term of affection, cause I'm old), there is a lot of confusion in your posts here. What is a GUI, why does it matter? If Linux terminals have a simple GUI interface before Windows Terminal, how does that matter? Terminal is a generic term, but also employs a concept that does not apply to Windows NT CMD, but sort of applies to PowerShell. CMD execution of 'commands' are very different to *nix, due to the massive differences between Linux and NT. NT has no low level CLI constructs, and Linux is ALL low level CLI constructs. PowerShell is where NT's CLI concept was adopted to work like a CLI based OS technology, while taking advantages of NT's low level Object nature, something Linux doesn't have, and even with recent changes only partially implements as a higher level interface. Now for 'Windows Terminal' - it is a lightweight tabbed UI CLI manager. This is why CMD/Powershell/Bash/etc all run inside Terminal. That is JUST the name Microsoft used for the project to make it similar to Linux/MacOS. As for the Settings UI - this is a tiny feature, that is a tiny amount of code. Creating a 'settings' page is fairly insignificant, but helps users that don't want to pretend like they are *nix autodidacts just for the fun of it. As for being first, there was a real 'Terminal' in Windows BEFORE Linux existed, and guess what, it had GUI Settings. (But this is kind of irrelevant, just as your proclamation that Linux did something first or better.) There is just a lot of cross misinformation here, and if you dig into why CMD was used in NT, or why PowerShell was created, or how Terminals works, or the history of Windows or History of *nix or Linux you will come back to your post and go, "Oh crap, what I said did look silly and wasn't very clear." Take care. (Truly.)

  26. Really doubt you're being honest here. WebP works 100% fine in Edge -- any test page will show this. And AVIF support isn't even completed in Chromium or Firefox yet. It only does still images, not sequences. It's extraordinarily unlikely that anybody is genuinely switching browsers solely for incrementally better compression on an image file format that has not been widely adopted.

Nightingale is pretty good. On par with Postman I'd say. It’s on par with Insomnia. It is feature deficient compared to Postman. I use Nightingale but we should be accurate in its shortcomings. I wish Paw would come to Windows. It puts all of them to shame. What are the applications you're talking about?! I dunno if what I'm finding is what you're talking about... Nightingale ... music player? Postman? Insomnia? Paw? They are all rest API testing tools. Nightingale being UWP.

And just how are racists, charlatans, demagogues, hate-mongers, incels, crooks, racists, misogynists, and the mentally ill supposed to reach out to suckers in order to foster lies that put all of our lives in jeopardy without completely unhindered access to a company's for profit business servers?!!! 42. Apple reportedly planning a thinner, redesigned MacBook Air

Well, it's not only thinness. After "bendgate", Google proceeded to launch their Pixel 2 I believe, which would break during bending (or the Pixel 2 XL, I forget). This was due to using the same poor design Apple had, where the antennas were more towards the middle rather than the top/bottom of the phone, causing the frame to weaken/bend or in Google's case, straight up snap the frame due to the materials used. Just thought I'd mention that, as it's important to recognize bad design or seeing companies literally reuse the same bad designs.
