  2. Nokia 8.3 5G is going for a $120 discount on Amazon

They really aren't. Would a dead company have sold out of the Nokia 5.4? Also they're one of the only affordable brands in the Android one programme.

Ah, that's probably because of your location. Infinix focuses on countries with a high demand for affordable phones with high specs. Some of the regions it's available in are France, Korea, Hong Kong, China, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Morocco, Kenya, Nigeria, Egypt, Iraq and Algeria.

  7. Infinix Note 8 unboxing and first impressions

"Infinix, a subsidiary of Transsion Group... has a large consumer base in regions like Asia, Africa and the Middle East... Transsion Group brands such as Itel, Infinix and Tecno held 8% of the Indian handset market share in Q3 2020." Fun fact... there are over 100 companies making Android phones... but we don't hear about many of them on North American websites.

  10. With all the value you get from game pass ultimate it could go up in price a little and still be fine. If the other rumors are true that uplay+ will be added like how they did with EA play then even at $20 a month for ultimate it'd be a solid deal. They should not be forcing this onto people anyway. In fact, playing multiplayer games you already own online on servers hosted by 3rd party companies should not be paid under any circumstances.

  12. Firefox 85 on Android will allow extension installs from AMO

Yeah, that is why Chrome has no market share on the desktop. LOL Obviously, it is possible and at one time Firefox (not a default) had 25% of the desktop market share. Unfortunately, Chrome (not a default) over took them and then even the default browser on Windows. Mobile happened which cemented Chrome's dominance as most people stuck with the same browser they used on the desktop with their Android phone. Chrome "happened" because Google pushed and keeps pushing Chrome into your face on literally all their sites, like GMail, YouTube, Google.com, Maps, Translate... in other words, the most visited sites on the internet. ... and then Android also "happened".

  13. Couple of darkside fixes in the news site

Thanks to some bug fixing work by @Redmak the comments (and reply to comment) box is now dark instead of eye blindingly white 😂😂 Prev / Next articles are now stacked and stand out a bit more below articles Earlier this week @DaveLeggremoved some javascript and cleaned up some code that was no longer used (for example we now only use one advertiser to display in page ads, before it was two, which required two sets of javascripts). For guests we completely removed the CKeditor javascript from loading in the background (some 500kb) this was overlooked and a bug, because guests could never comment so it makes no sense to load the editor at all. A future update will add some lazy loading, so that certain heavier elements (like the editor) will only load once they are in focus on the page. BTW a little known fact is that guests can enable Darkside on our news site with the theme icon toggle at the top of the right rail sidebar: It's also at the top right of all articles (except reviews, which are full width pages).

  18. Windows Terminal to gain Settings UI in the next version

Untrue. None of the Linux distros have a GUI for configuring their command-line shells. In most cases, those shells aren't configurable in the first place. I think that is incorrect all of Linux distro can if you right click and select properties you config some setting and some 3rdparty cli you can apply themes with in cli window. Truth. It DOES have a window that allows you to conmfigure it somewhat. ALSO, when did Windows EVER call it a "terminal"? They always used the term "command prompt".. Terminal is just a shell that can house consoles such as PowerShell, Windows Command Prompt, WSL prompts etc. So Terminal != Console. Since Windows 10, they never called it "Windows Terminal" I'm not talking about it's function, I'm saying just the name. Perhaps you weren’t aware, this isn’t part of Windows 10.

  20. The YouTube app for Xbox now supports HDR videos

Its not a light decode, but it has been being used for several years now with just software decode on hardware less capable than Xbox. The Windows AV1 Core/Media 'software decode' codec is 2-3 years old I think. There is also a good chance AV1 hardware decode is available on the Xbox Series X/S due to the GPU technology similarity to the AMD 6xxx series. It's been used for 1080p and below video streams. That's kind of my point. These benchmarks are not acceptable to me. https://www.pcworld.com/articl...-comet-lake-ryzen-4000.html But yes, very new hardware does it in hardware.

That may be fine for America where Bing is usable but as has been well documented Bing is not so good globally. Yup. This is exactly all those people saying "Use DuckDuckGo instead of Google" are very US-centric. DDG uses mix of Google/Bing searches on desktop and Bing only on mobile, making it essentially useless in Europe (and I suppose many other countries) i use bing in canada and it's fine.

  32. Microsoft is doubling the price of Xbox Live Gold

Pretty obvious they're going to bump up the Game Pass prices as well. They are taking it in small steps so they don't upset the Xbox community. This was bound to happen, and now gives Sony/Nintendo the opportunity to increase their costs. If you don't like it, use Microsoft Rewards to supplement/cover these costs (assuming your region has access to Microsoft Rewards).

Kiddo (term of affection, cause I'm old), there is a lot of confusion in your posts here. What is a GUI, why does it matter? If Linux terminals have a simple GUI interface before Windows Terminal, how does that matter? Terminal is a generic term, but also employs a concept that does not apply to Windows NT CMD, but sort of applies to PowerShell. CMD execution of 'commands' are very different to *nix, due to the massive differences between Linux and NT. NT has no low level CLI constructs, and Linux is ALL low level CLI constructs. PowerShell is where NT's CLI concept was adopted to work like a CLI based OS technology, while taking advantages of NT's low level Object nature, something Linux doesn't have, and even with recent changes only partially implements as a higher level interface. Now for 'Windows Terminal' - it is a lightweight tabbed UI CLI manager. This is why CMD/Powershell/Bash/etc all run inside Terminal. That is JUST the name Microsoft used for the project to make it similar to Linux/MacOS. As for the Settings UI - this is a tiny feature, that is a tiny amount of code. Creating a 'settings' page is fairly insignificant, but helps users that don't want to pretend like they are *nix autodidacts just for the fun of it. As for being first, there was a real 'Terminal' in Windows BEFORE Linux existed, and guess what, it had GUI Settings. (But this is kind of irrelevant, just as your proclamation that Linux did something first or better.) There is just a lot of cross misinformation here, and if you dig into why CMD was used in NT, or why PowerShell was created, or how Terminals works, or the history of Windows or History of *nix or Linux you will come back to your post and go, "Oh crap, what I said did look silly and wasn't very clear." Take care. (Truly.)

Counter argument: Samsung Internet and Chromium Edge. Both were launched in devices where Google Chrome is the undisputed leader. In fact, both are Chromium based that added little value over what Google Chrome can already offer. Yet they are number 2 over dozens of other browsers found in their respective platforms. Samsung Internet is only on Android where Chrome is also preloaded and usually on the home screen. Windows has a reputation (justified) of having unusable built in browsers. Most people will use Edgium to download Chrome instead of realizing "Wait a moment, this is Chrome"

  50. Can't create files/folders ending in dot (.) character...

Windows is designed for manual point-and-click mechanics, which creates conflict and friction for those of us who develop software. Example: https://github.com/ropensci/drake/issues/1147. Here, the user does not deliberately try to create a file ending with a dot, but the software needs one anyway. This is just one of many edge cases caused by strange Windows file name restrictions. Fine for point-and-click Windows users, frustrating for developers.
