New Surface Pro 7 ad puts it up against Apple's ARM-powered MacBook Pro
Tuskd and 5 others reacted to Closed account for a topic
the m1 slaughters 10th gen gpu perf. dumb ad. the intel surface line badly needs both significant increases in perf to challenge the m1 as well as serious redesigning. the fact that it's still essentially the same design as the sp3 is a serious problem. The x pro looks modern. the 7 does not. Long time surface fan, but i wouldn't recommend the 7 to anyone. I know i was glad when i sold mine.6 points -

Their votes were not a protest vote, the full intention was to delay certification and setup a commission to halt the transfer of power. If you see ineffectual protest votes as the same thing in the context, you aren't paying attention or have listened to some nut say that past protest votes were the same - which is pure ######ing ignorance on their part. Whoever you heard that from, stop listening to them or fact check their BS. Please. These Congress Members also continued this stunt after the lives of their colleges and the VP was in serious danger along with the invasion of the US capital. Since the attack we have also found additional information about participation by these same congress members in the attack and in conjunction with Trump's AG plans to stop THIS CERTIFICATION by pre-empting it through the power of the DOJ. (Stuff that at least a chunk of them were participating in.) Even if companies like Microsoft want to say it was based on the 'metric' of the vote, the overall picture is that the vote was just one piece of the puzzle, and the fact they continued with it after the attack is dangerous. We live in an era that people don't have life experience with the context of how serious and dangerous the actions of these people in congress, along with Trump's idiocy. If Trump hadn't been so stupid, any semblance of democracy or the US itself would be done. Look at how far the manipulation and propaganda got. We are in a time when people that identify as anti-fascists are treated like boogie men by the Trump right. How in the ###### did the same country that helped stop Hitler's fascism BS, now have half the citizens THINKING anti-fascism is bad? WTF, right? (Hint: ANTIFA: Is not a group or organization, it is an ideal, and never used to be divisive.) If there is not recourse for his actions and the congress' actions, someone that is smarter will be able to pursue a similar plot of manipulation and give idiots a tasty chunk of anti-democratic authoritarian BS that many personalities and non-intellectuals like, as they don't have to think things through and can just get their ideals from propaganda like Fox or an insane leader. The attack and the vote was the apex of a series of actions and plans, and members of Congress were participants. THERE IS A REASON MOST THEM went through social media and other communication and deleted stuff. Before the VOTE. They knew what they were doing. ###### them, they were willing to rip congress apart to keep power. ###### them. IT IS ANTI-DEMOCRATIC. Not that long ago, in other western countries, these people would have already been put to death and beheaded. The constitution they wanted to ignore is why these ######ers still have their heads. Their participation was insurrection. PERIOD.4 points -

They wanted to overturn the election. Plain and simple. It is nothing but a big fraud on the people of the US. Doesn't matter what they 'intended'. What they DID was 100% within the legal construct of the rules governing congress and U.S. Code. You may not agree with them, you may hate them but punishment for following the rules is a bad path to start walking down. While the events could have been 100% legal ... you can still "punish" them for making, echoing, and enhancing the bad faith arguments which were rooted in disinformation (election fraud). Even after the states certified the results, even after the Electoral College voted, even after countless lawsuits were tossed and/or lost ... these knuckleheads' still dared (even after a bunch of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol) to stand on the House/Senate floor and continue spreading disinformation. I think it is well within Microsoft (and others) rights to "punish" by withholding their donations.3 points -

No it only applies to wireless charging really because it uses strong fields to transfer large amounts of power. It doesn't apply to a generic laptop for example. Not necessarily. The Qi coils aren't emitting a magnetic field unless current is flowing through it via charging. Somebody probably won't have the phone on a charger and have it next to their heart. The Magsafe stuff clicks on with a fairly strong magnet, so I'm sure the concern is somebody with a pacemaker that carries their phone in a front shirt pocket. Probably very little risk, but this is a legal safeguard in case of a lawsuit.2 points -

It's sad what appears to be happening in the US right now. One the one hand, you have a party that believes the vote was rigged. On the other, you have a group that believes the opposition Congress members want to do them physical harm. You then have BLM / Antifa looking to overthrow the whole capitalist structure. All within a pandemic that people believe is fake and that the medication to treat is fake. I blame mainstream media for stoking it all and spreading biased rhetoric. it's no wonder companies are stopping donations.2 points -

Look, I'm clearly not a Trump supporter (didn't vote for him in 2016 or 2020) but members of congress are within their right object to the counts under U.S. law. This has been done by both republicans and democrats in the past yet there was never any pushback. Then, like now, it was a useless effort that has zero chance of changing anything and was simply a show of opposition. Why is this one all of a sudden any different? Is it the inflammatory reason they used in their objection? They don't need to have a valid reason to object. It would have been just as legal if they had objected because they think the moon is made of cheese. Regardless of belief, I can't support punishing people for committing a legal act.2 points -

You aren't wrong, but it isn't gameless either, nor as cripples as Mac. There are home/internet stream gaming options, but that is a bit of a cheat. However, the Surface 7 i5 and i7 can run things that would surprise people. Dig around on YouTube or the few sites that did game benchmarks on the Surface Pro. I know for a fact, they can run things like Fortnite, CSGo, GTA 5, etc. - all with fairly good settings while holding 60FPS most of the time. I wouldn't try Cyberpunk or RDR II, but there is a large chunk of new games that will play, even if you have to drop to low settings. DO NOT buy one for gaming, but the option is there, just like any other of the lightweight mobile PCs of the last couple of years.1 point -

And why couldn't they? You think Samsung has a trademark on "Note"? No, they don't. For smartphones? Yeah, I thought they would. Trademarks and Copyrights are a jungle one can be lost in forever. At a quick glance, all phones after Galaxy Note 4 are written without a space between the Note and the numeral (Note5, Note7, Note8, Note9, Note10, Note20 and their derivatives). So I think they have trademarked the "Note#" and "Note##" terms. Which means "Note 10" can be a valid name for a smartphone but "Note10" infringes on Samsung's trademark.1 point -

This is just a nicety for accessing stuff that is already on Windows. It’s not going to add any functionality to those that wasn’t already there. So I would not expect additional CLI applications to appear because of it. Fun fact. Windows Terminal just adds a way to manage these with some additional features to be used with them.1 point -

Microsoft doubles down on Win32
quikmantx reacted to WinMacLin Guy for a topic
Yeah, it sure does seem like a failure both for microsoft and for users. Frigging developers ruin everything. I'm a dev, and for my personal projects I stopped investing my time in money in it due to the MS not being able to pick a direction, constant back tracking, and limited revenue streams. Between constant reboots, limited hardware support, and toxic fanbase putting devs down (ironic), it just wasn't worth it anymore. The market was saturated by the time MS took a win32 replacement seriously. It wasn't the devs. It was MS' complete mismanagement of a "post-PC era", as some like to refer it to. This is my view as well. It is really sad as well because there are a number visionaries within Microsoft that seemingly have a certain direction in mind, but everything is seemingly mishandled by management. We now have an amalgamation of Win32, .Net, UWP and many other libraries/frameworks in-between. At some point they were all the future, and then seemingly put on the back burner, and then restarted with a new focus on it, then seemingly left out of certain products again, etc. MS does not send a clear signal on what devs (both internally and externally) should be using, and at the end of the day it is both devs and customers that suffer because of it. This issue not only impacts their OS-level technologies but also other things as well (like OneNote UWP vs OneNote Desktop but there are historically other examples as well). IMO MS needs to pick a direction in terms frameworks (be it UWP, .NET, Win32, or whatever else), they need to containerize older libraries and frameworks so that existing apps remain compatible but are isolated from the rest of the system during the transition period while putting the most effort into ensuring the frameworks they have chosen are being matured and/or modernized, they need to eat their own dog food (whatever direction they choose they need to migrate their own apps to it), and they need to signal to devs and work with them to migrate their apps over.1 point -

CBS All Access is becoming Paramount+ on March 4, coming to more markets
quikmantx reacted to Nas for a topic
Are you referring to the "+" symbol? Cuz if you are, then the answer is, "no... Hulu Plus came first." Hulu Plus doesn't exist anymore. So, yes it was "first" +/Plus, but no longer a subscription option since Disney+ incarnation. Technically, "Hulu Plus" still exists (it's now the standard Hulu subscription when the original free tier was eliminated)... and Disney owns extreme majority of Hulu now... and actually ESPN+ was announced/launched before Disney+ was launched. All to say, per your "effect" question, the best answer today would be, "ESPN+ was the first." =)1 point -
