I agree, but the cynic in me says...Intel. As if they'll make anything cheaper.

  6. Wow really can't wait for the future of this... "Alexa has a hunch that because you came home late last night, you cheated on your wife and has sent 20 messages to your wife informing her" or "Alexa has a hunch you are a criminal so has notified the police to your address and submitted all it's sensors, microphone and video records to police for them to investigate"!

  7. Honestly, with the direction they've been going on the hardware, I say keep going. Few things they can do that'd just be a total positive, some of which are rumored already: Bring back the Magsafe charging, utilize FaceID with a higher quality camera instead of that dodgy 720p cam, do away with the touch bar, finish iterating on the touch-friendly UI of macOS and introduce touchscreens... maybe even go for their own 2-in-1 device. At this point, a 360 hinge is completely doable, given how thin the M1 chips allow for the design to be. The reduced thickness would make folding it back much more usable than some of these thicker PCs (my HP x360 15" says hello, as does my old Yoga). Just a thought. If the M1 Macbook Air is fanless with great battery, then why not just go all in, especially if these devices can run iOS/iPadOS apps? It only makes sense. However, only if they get those reduced bezels as well. I feel that would completely push people into macOS-- if you'd still even want to call it that. Half the time, many people get stuck just on the UI being so different than the Windows PCs they're used to. Bring in iPad navigation and you've just leaped over some of that... I dunno, I'm OnCall waiting for servers to reboot. Just thinking out loud here, who knows.

  8. Lol so its really only going to block/flag certain groups or sides of the political landscape. This is nothing more than a grasp that Twitter is wishing to inflict on its users. I've deleted my account and moved to something else, a few services in fact that do not or will not do this sorta act. Soon Twitter will go away just like myspace did, I hope FB follows that soon as well.

  9. New Surface Pro 7 ad puts it up against Apple's ARM-powered MacBook Pro

I know, the Apple MacBook Pro is ALMOST as fast as the Surface Pro 7 i7. /s M1 is great in specialized circumstances, but even in the mobile low power area of computing, it is NOT that fast or magical. Cinebench - Surface Pro 7 - i7 = 4% faster - Surface Pro 7 - i5 = 9% slower than M1 (This also requires the M1 to be running on AC on the Macbook Pro, with the Surface on Battery.) Besides a couple of Mac-ish benchmarks, like Geekbench, or a few optimized software tests, like the accelerated pipeline for Adobe with video rendering - which actually loses when using the GPU technologies from Intel HD/Xe. M1 is a good processor, but "Slaughters" No, it doesn't get close. It is a good showing for Apple for the first release, it is not an industry changer. Apple even states this themselves when they compare the M1 to the previous generation MacBook Air with Intel processors, by SAYING it is 3.5x faster. Yes, so are the higher end 'mobile' Intel and AMD processors. How big the difference can be for 'general' computing tests - AMDs 4700u and higher mobile processors are running about 2.5-4x faster than the M1, and the WATT equivalent CPUs are running 1.5-2x faster. Here is a (subjective) internal number from my team, the majority of the Dell, Asus, HP i7-9750h mobile processors from 2018 are 1.5-2x faster than the M1. I'm not defending Microsoft or Surface here, I could care less if anyone wants a Surface or likes how they work. However, we can't keep doing the M1 Myth crap, when even Apple doesn't do it. There will be people that read comments like this and not knowing better, and end up with a slower computer or a bad choice for what they need. If you are doing video editing, engineering, simulation, 3D design - the M1 is not a great choice for performance. When you consider how horrible MacOS is with 3D software by breaking OpenCL/GL/Vulkan - it is even worse for a lot of people. A 3D designer wanting a lightweight portable would get much better performance from a Surface Pro - and it is not designed for speed. (Sorry for ranting a bit and I don't mean this reply directly @sweatshopking - as I'm responding to a lot of similar comments in general here, not yours specifically.) I think there are a few things worth clarifying: 1. it's true that the m1 is mixed when comparing benchmarks, but it's pretty consistently faster than an i5, which is the bulk of surface sales 2. Compare battery life between an m1 air and an i5 surface. Granted battery sizes aren't identical, but the Air pulls in at least double the battery life on average of either of my i5 surface pro 7's. 3. don't buy a mac for almost any kind of industry work. This kinda just goes without saying and existed before the m1. I always appreciate your comments, even if i don't always agree with them. Cheers.

  17. Konami denies shutting down its gaming division

They had an interesting silent hill game and demo out but cancelled the game, I remember everyone saying the demo was great. My opinion on RE is is became trash with the second - the second was okay but the third has dropped way off the bridge, by the time of RE4 it was a completely different game, RE0 was just garbage. Not seen RE7 but I have no interest. Really RE1.5 should have been RE2, not the RE2 they released. The RE2 remake was brilliant. It really brought back the balance of zombies and limited resources compared to RE5 (the last one I played) which basically gave you a machine gun to mow down hordes of enemies. RE7 was also refreshing for the series; switching to first-person really increased the sense of dread I had. For me though, the Silent Hill series had the edge because of its stories. Silent Hill 2 hasn't been beaten by the other games of the series that I've played, but PT showed that Kojima and Del Toro had a winner on their hands. Atmospheric and intriguing, I was genuinely sad to hear that it wasn't going to be fleshed out further.

  18. Alexa can now proactively act on Hunches without human interaction

I love seeing the advancements made here...but at the same time I think implementing this in a manner to act by itself might be going a bit too far. I know you can control what devices you can assign to the auto smart hunch feature in the app. However, for things like smart plugs, I can see certain house members either forgetting or not knowing about the automatic behaviour of the device and then plugging in something else to the plugs which might be undesirable or dangerous to turn on or off automatically without user interaction.

M1 not mentioned in commercial, but is in article: Check Pro 7+ not mentioned in commercial, but is in article: Check Nothing but a bunch of assumptions and fluff about a stupid commercial. Is Neowin going to do this for ALL commercials? I hope so, just to remain consistent and not make this look like a payday with no effort. neowin has long covered these surface ads. nothing new about this.

  23. the m1 slaughters 10th gen gpu perf. dumb ad. the intel surface line badly needs both significant increases in perf to challenge the m1 as well as serious redesigning. the fact that it's still essentially the same design as the sp3 is a serious problem. The x pro looks modern. the 7 does not. Long time surface fan, but i wouldn't recommend the 7 to anyone. I know i was glad when i sold mine.

  25. Huawei is reportedly looking to sell its P and Mate brands

These things are just set to work around the US ban etc, at some point they can close Huawei as a company, spin up some new one that still uses the brands they're now "selling off", and, with some time, merge it all back under one umbrella. As a flex move by the US, I'd say it worked overall. It's not like Huawei, early PR aside, didn't get hit hard by the bans financially. While I don't like Trump in general on many topics, taking a harder stance vs China is the one thing I did agree with. The way they went about it could've been handled better. I also don't think the new Biden administration is going to back down, they'll just be smarter about it and not make it sound like a school yard name calling duel.

  38. Been some long running rumors that it may come to fruition inevitably. You can't look at Big Sur and not believe they're eventually building with touch in mind. This is actually something appreciated, as it took time for Microsoft to get better with touch... and even now, it's still in an "okay" kind of state. Of course, throw a high resolution on a tablet sized display, and now you're like... trying to avoid screwing up things in Explorer for example. Honestly, I really don't miss the touch screen from my old laptop. That being said, the only reason for Apple to do it now is the fact that they're working with iOS/iPadOS apps on macOS. Will see what happens though.
