Discord ban aside, I don't see how what they're doing can be considered as fraud in the least . All WSB is doing is playing the game like normal. There's nothing illegal for a group of people to all agree to buy a specific stock. The hedge fund and other Wall Street insiders who are crying foul need to grow a pair and deal with it. This is what they've been doing for the longest time. I don't see how it's any different from people at a brokerage calling up their list of clients to get them to buy some hot new stock of the week. Or going on places like Bloomberg or CNBC to talk up their hot new picks hoping those who watch the programs will do the same. The only thing the SEC should say in its report about WSB is that's capitalism of the future.10 points -

DirectX Redist
spikey_richie and 2 others reacted to Max Norris for a topic
So, apparently Microsoft in their infinite wisdom decided to pull the DirectX redistributables from their site, it's a 404 now. Not only that, more often than not people either downloaded or received bundled with a game a copy of the web installer, which is also now dead. Occasionally needed even with Windows 10, depending on the game. Why did they nuke it? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Anyways, I have a copy of the last version of the full standalone installer, archived it up and tossed onto Mega if anyone needs it. You can find a few other locations (Guru 3D, etc) if you want to chase it down but note that most downloads are the now dead web installer, will start but error out. https://mega.nz/file/mI0iFApA#8QADsqoaDrqDZa6w_hctzLToQYqn514mbOSXXVk8nMQ3 points -

I have been considering a switch to an iPhone for a little while but every time I see a comment from you it kills the urge. I resisted Apple for years. There was no way I was going to get an expensive iPod! I tried so many MP3 players, some cheap and some very expensive. Some of them were ok, others were a huge waste of my time and money. One day I relented and I jumped in. It was only a few hours until I realised what I was missing. My new iPod was AMAZING. Soon after I got a Mac Mini and a KVM switch to hook into my existing PC setup. I wasn't expecting to like the Mac but I thought I could sell it when I knew I did not like it. I loved the Mac and sold the PC. Now I only buy the Apple stuff. When I need a new phone I get an iPhone. I have an Apple Watch, Apple TVs, iPads, and Laptops. I don't need to do any more research and look at specs. I don't need to look online for the best price or a discount. I just buy the Apple stuff because it's easy and it all works together really well. I know the Apple stuff is more expensive but that's the price I pay to not need to do research and try other brands, plus I know that Apple will provide really good support if I need it and there is an Apple store just 20 minutes away. Anyway, there are annoying people everywhere you chose to see them, do yourself a favour and get the iPhone. "that's the price I pay to not need to do research and try other brands" Shopping uninformed. How appropriate for the discussion.3 points -

Oh yes, just like how Windows 10 Mobile got random updates at the end of its life. No. The issue is that Wall Street controlled Apple has used this approach for years now and they continually spin the "increasing popularity" of products that are actually seeing sales declines year to year. And suckers keep falling for it. So, all I am doing is making sure people have the COMPLETE picture regarding Apple's decreasing sales, yet increasing profits through increasing prices. For example, Tim's quote above "We’re gratified by the enthusiastic customer response..." is not born out in the evidence, is it? Sales decline, yet steady user base. Maybe people are holding on to their phones longer, and gasp, purchase apple services and subscriptions? You don't need to buy a new phone every 1, even 2 years... These things have 4, 6gb of ram now and the most advanced mobile proc out there. People are still rocking their 6s' still too. More smoke from the "savvy professional".2 points -

Facebook will now show 'authoritative' sources for searches relating to Holocaust
domboy reacted to Garry for a topic
Ahhh, I’m so ambivalent about this! On the one hand, Holocaust denial is a diabolical thing, as is any form of anti-semitism. Facebook seems to have found a good balance here between providing proper information while not blocking other sources outright. On the other hand, I am increasingly concerned about moves made by private companies to determine what information is made available. The Holocaust should not be a particularly controversial topic but others are less clear cut. I hope we are not in a slow crawl to a place where Facebook, Google and others decide what is “true” and censors all other opinions. That is not what is happening here but we must be cautious not to sleepwalk into that situation in future. Again, I appreciate that this is not what is happening in this particular case, but blocking information outright, even false information, can lead to enclaves of people who never hear opposing points of view - putting them in an echo chamber of their own opinion - and that can be dangerous. I would like to see Big Tech, schools and government work together to provide everybody, particularly children, with the skills and tools needed to assess the validity of information for themselves. In the modern age of social media and highly politicised digital media, being able to separate fact from opinion and spotting bias is going to become ever more important. Over time, I believe this will be a much more effective tool against extremism than censorship while also maintaining the concept of free speech which many modern societies are founded upon.1 point -
Microsoft doubles down on Win32
noobient reacted to shockz for a topic
if only devs/companies where not so lazy, they scream and cry that they wanted to reuse they're ancient code and not learn new things... meanwhile for ios and android they were totally fine to rewrite the whole app from scratch in a totally new language (swift and kotlin), and for swift they were totally fine with all breaking changes at every new version lol, iOS and Android didn't reboot their platform 4 times in less than 5 years. Not to mention the actual ROI on iOS and Android to do so was worth it. "ancient code".. yeah. okay. haha.1 point -
Microsoft doubles down on Win32
noobient reacted to shockz for a topic
Yeah, it sure does seem like a failure both for microsoft and for users. Frigging developers ruin everything. I'm a dev, and for my personal projects I stopped investing my time in money in it due to the MS not being able to pick a direction, constant back tracking, and limited revenue streams. Between constant reboots, limited hardware support, and toxic fanbase putting devs down (ironic), it just wasn't worth it anymore. The market was saturated by the time MS took a win32 replacement seriously. It wasn't the devs. It was MS' complete mismanagement of a "post-PC era", as some like to refer it to.1 point -
