  1. Linus did an in-depth video recently comparing the M1 to various Windows laptops. He concluded that the M1 laptops had the best performance, battery life and bang for the buck.

  2. "This unit was sent, believe it or not, by Intel. In fact, Intel sent over a bunch of goodies, such as a Razer Book 13, a Razer Core X external GPU enclosure, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, a CalDigit Thunderbolt dock, and a Samsung T7 Touch SSD." Ah yes, let's compare a low power device to one with the highest specs available... That's incredibly poor even by intel's already jaw droppingly low standards. "But it's right about how I can't connect an external GPU to the MacBook Pro, or apparently even dual monitors (I haven't tested that last bit myself yet)." Can't connect dual monitors? Sounds like ###### to me, someone at our work from years ago had a mac (not this new one obviously) and had to buy some special external hardware to use dual monitors which went into the thunderbolt port but it did work. "it feels so strange that Apple didn't bother to redesign the hardware at all. All of the M1 Macs go right in the chassis of their Intel-powered predecessors, and being that Apple so rarely updates its Mac designs, it feels dated" Why is that strange? Why redesign what you already have? They do the same thing with phones, iphone 8 and iphone SE from last year are the same chassis, original iphone SE, iphone 5s, iphone 5 are all the same chassis - so? Maybe this is the baseline model and in a year or 2 there will be one with a much higher performing custom CPU which requires a fan, seems smart to me to not waste money redesigning it for something you're going to have to redesign again. Not really sure on the dated design comment? Laptops had keyboard and trackpads in the 90s and their lids closed, as do laptops today, what's dated about that?

  5. Intel Evo vs Apple Silicon part three: Setting up the peripherals

I see some conflict of interest here given that Intel has provided all the stuff. It would have been better to have someone that has no horse in this race to sponsor it to lend more credibility to the claim that its the author's independent opinion. Intel sent peripherals that don't work well with the M1. For a balanced comparison, they should've included some Apple ecosystem stuff like an iPhone, iPad, and AirPods. Continuity, Handoff and Sidecar don't work on Windows machines.

For sure. Honestly, good on him. He's also making a point of how comically volatile the market can be. Can't fault him really. I'd kick back with some popcorn and do this every night if I was in his shoes.

  10. Implying that you were a pirate and then stopped? Hmm... a former pirate calling someone else an "insufferable douchebag." Who hasn't even pirated games in the past... don't put your hand up, you are lying The answer is a boy who dreamt of growing up and becoming a software developer. To learn to hate piracy during one's formative years is quite effective. Things didn't quite work out as the boy dreamt but he has learned a thing or two about the people who give the "insufferable douchebag" sermon. I think I had a stroke reading this.

  13. Intel Evo vs Apple Silicon part one: Unboxing the MacBook Pro 13

I agree with Linus on this. I returned a Intel based laptop and used that to get my MacBook Air M1. I use it everyday and what I had to actually get used to, was not grabbing the charging cable when I went from my home office to the kitchen or dining room. I can use it all day and even play my favorite Steam game Cities:Skylines for several hours at a clip and not kill the battery. This design truly works for me. I'm considering replacing my desktop with the Mac Mini M1x whenever its announced. Intel feels aged in comparison. Why would you change the desktop? It doesn't have a battery, where the M1 shines (per Linus and your usage)

Alaska...by far. CA cities are a mess like San Fran and it seems the are pushing more and more people out with high taxes. Need to be either rich, or poor, to live in CA. Alaska...less crowded, cleaner air, open landscape, and better scenery

  20. I find the fact that there are fanboys for a launcher absolutely bizarre. I've got Steam, Epic, Bethesda and Xbox games on my PC. Who cares what the launcher is, don't we play games to... play games? I use steam and stay away from Epic... not because I'm a steam fanboi but because Epic is a garbage company. (I also have blizzard for when I play their games, which isn't atm) We care because it's a platform thats built by a garbage company.

  21. "get used to it cult" nothing like projecting your fanboi love of a garbage company. Bow to your Epic Gawd.

  22. Who likes it? Even Epic doesn't like it. But that's how you do business these days, and it is not illegal. Your other option is dying in anonymity. Every time an author releases a good book, video game publishers try to get an exclusive right. Epic is the company that made AAA games possible. "even epic doesn't like it" Epic has been a horrible company since day one... saying they don't like it flies in the face of all their crap. I'll pass on "free games" to not support a garbage company like Epic.

So I noticed that all my epic armadillo mods on my gear went from Epic, to common. So now my armor rating is 1000 pts lower than what it should be currently. I can buy another epic mod from the shop, but when I save/reload the game...the mod again changes from epic to common on my gear. Also, any armadillo mod I have available/not used on my backpack changes as well. Additionally, when I put a piece of gear on my stash and take it out, the armadillo mod stats are orange/legendary but with 0 armor. When I save/reload the game, the mod changes from legendary/0 to a common mod. Not sure when this started, just noticed tonight when I did a legendary farm since the reroll/respec option was put back in. Was remodding my armor and noticed this. Annoying to say the least. All other mods are fine.

That's because no one does know what's happening. Part of it is the FAA AST office that handles this is seriously understaffed. Another part is that, in general, the Federal govt. is overly bureaucratic and incompetent. This is regardless of who's in charge. It's why when some proposal to create another big program comes along many or most Americans just go "O-M-G, another s***show 🙄" FAA fits this for several reasons (see how they've mis-handled Boeing, anti-collision systems, etc.)

  27. at least devs get properly paid So do we only believe in trickle down economics when we talk about developers/publishers making more money so they can pad their wallets pay their workers? I really don't get some of the contradictory theory on this, especially when we look at good developers turning rotten like the devolution of Blizzard Games or even watching CDPR going from praised to hated for their complete incompetence. That being said, what happened to the end user getting a better experience? I don't think EGS has helped in that regard in any way, shape, or form. In fact, at the end of the day, the best thing people say about EGS is that they got free games (see comments below for example). And... despite the big fluff of this article, here are some numbers compared to last year. Their growth in users has certainly increased, but that hasn't translated directly to sales which makes me wonder about the whole sustainability of games being handed out, if nobody turns around to actually buy anything. https://i.imgur.com/8Y1j0mH.jpg" rel="external nofollow">https://i.imgur.com/8Y1j0mH.jpg" rel="external nofollow">https://i.imgur.com/8Y1j0mH.jpg it is a long term strategy, effects will be seen in multiple years our society is trash because everyone expect everything short term, only just to cash out quickly you are the definition of what's wrong with today "economics", you only see and care about your own foot If you're gonna talk trash, at least back up what you're saying. CDPR put their employees under heavy crunch to deliver a half baked product. What good was it if the company made more money selling directly, if the consumer received a bad product and the employees were worked into overtime just to get it to whatever "release" state they did? This is what I'm talking about. The idea that EGS somehow gives back to the developer is bogus, unless they're a small team that actually values their employees. And of course, the indie devs on there are handpicked to begin with. You'll never see real start-up devs like the ones behind Phasmophobia which became a huge success, partly thanks to Twitch and the ability to have an Early Access game. Hell, does EGS even offer VR support to take on devs like that? Or modding yet? Like it's cool how they offer Unreal Engine, but beyond that, there's just too many limiting factors. Anyway, I just don't buy this idea that companies making more money translates to employees making more money. It's not true with any of the big players, nor the gaming industry.

  29. Because very few people use RSS these days. I REALLY miss IE’s RSS functionality. Sadly RSS seems to have fallen out if fashion somewhat 😞 Me too! There is no tracking in RSS unlike social media feeds and no stupid algorithms where you can miss content due to their flawed rules. The content comes to you clean and non-cluttered. And it felt so natural in a web browser vs a separate reader app. Edge should get an RSS sidebar like IE (Ctrl+G). But I think no ads and tracking in RSS/Atom feeds is probably why Google and Microsoft no longer support it. You are the product now and it doesn't benefit their ad network(s).

  39. Still haven't seen the need to have Epic on my device. On top of that, Tim is extremely arrogant. His claim to entitlement on any app ecosystem (with subsequent lawsuit) is enough of a put-off without considering any previous vitriol pouring from his mouth. Epic is 40% owned by Tencent. No thanks.

  40. Zzzz... Until Epic can compete on a service level, there's literally no incentive to buy there outside of "I can play this NOW!"... Backlog is longer than my lifetime... rather wait a year, get a fully patched game for cheaper with all the DLC on a store that gives more bang for your buck when you buy a game
