  1. CD Projekt suffers a cyberattack compromising internal systems

There is no end to their streak of bad luck yet, is there? I feel sorry for the IT staff. This is about the worst kind of news any member of that department could wake up to - especially when the company itself is already stuck deep in the mud everywhere else.

  2. Microsoft's Surface Duo is $400 off at Best Buy and Amazon

And even at that price - thanks but no thanks. Read the reviews. What a disappointing thing to do : waiting for MS to release a good smartphone. Surface took at least till gen3 to get decent... You think that MS will release due gen2 or just dump it??

Maybe someone has been using computers since that era and just prefers the look? Its not like W8-W10 has improved anything about the menu beyond being more touch friendly. Tossing out modern hardware/software compatibility, general stability, you can install/run programs, surf the information superhighway, process words, code, listen to music and game. All the fundamentals are there. So other than stability (MS is working on that one), looks, cloud crap, touch crap and modern HW/SW compatibility, what huge leaps in usability have we witnessed since 98? There hasn't been much change because the basic formula works and the interface between man and computer hasn't changed a lot. VR/AR and neuro will likely bring about the real change once everything matures.

yet still not recommended by it's biggest fan, Zac Bowden. Sounds like there are still way too many bugs, and Microsoft not providing good community engagement on the device. If true, I wouldn't buy it either (eh, Android, I wouldn't buy it anyway...)

  22. For me the only thing I started to hate about Android is the runaround you get now with notification preferences split between the app itself and within Android notification settings, and one app could have 20 notifications for every little thing that isn't even described in a way that most people can understand. Oh and some apps just reset the preferences with an update, so you're forever editing ****ing notifications. It is like they saw Facebooks multiple pages of settings and thought "hey now that's a great idea!" 🙄

  25. iOS 14.5 update might let you pick a default music player

That's entirely app fault, not Apple's fault. A lot of apps stubbornly insist on either built-in browser or Safari. That's just lazy development. Even before default browser selection was a thing, many good app devs allowed you to set any browser as default within that app.

They should've never killed the Zune name to begin with. Their whole campaign in burning it down for Xbox Music then Groove just never made sense to me, especially given the recognition the Zune name had earned.

  34. Microsoft is offering a month of EA Play for 99 cents

This is an inexpensive way to get EA Play while waiting for EA Play with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate PC. They announced on Dec 15th it would be delayed until sometime 2021, and on the offer page, it still shows 'Coming 2021' - maybe there will be an announcement date soon. My guess is March-ish. EA Play availability is already available on Xbox.

  36. Production costs. Plain and simple. We're talking about having to have buildings, machines and people to create the disks, labels, boxes, inserts.. etc. And like others have mentioned, there's a long chain of hands that physical products go thru before they get to yours. Digital is (basically) just one computer system to the next... and even with the costs of that upkeep, it will be far cheaper than the other option.

  38. AMD has been creating two new sockets every two years. You can't insert a Ryzen Threadripper into an AM3+ socket or even into a TR4. So, no, you can't. 2 years? That's bull, AM4 came out in 2017 (AM3+ came out in 2011!) and is still used by current gen Ryzen chips (and next gen Ryzen as well). Ryzen 5000 is officially compatible with B450 boards which came out in early 2018 and unofficially compatible with 1st gen boards by some OEMs. TR4/TRX4 is Threadripper only but Threadripper always had separate sockets compared to Ryzen, as does Intel for LGA1200 and LGA2066. You can't put a an i9 10980XE on a LGA1200, even thought they were release at the same time.

  39. SpaceX Super Heavy and Starship updates

The FAA was bent out of shape over the modelling of blast effects in case of a boomski. Given the vehicles have an autonomous destruct system that breaks them up if they stray (no more guy with a red button), the village had been evacuated, and SpaceX has enough insurance to pay for every privately held property 1000 times over (2 permanent residents; Nomadd and BocaChicaGal, both NASASpaceFlight reporters), and a handful of snowbirds who sometimes winter over... Whatever, the FAA - AST rules change March 12 and the changes are pro-commercial - loosening up licensing.

  41. Yeah I've suffered from this crap. For apps which have lots of notification settings, they should have a bulk Apply to all setting or a button to change defaults to No notifications for all actions or "All to silent, all to no vibration" so then we only need to change one or two actions for which we actually want notifications.

  43. SpaceX Super Heavy and Starship updates

I don't think it's that simple. FAA is probably a bureaucratic body with a lot of incomprehensible and obscure rules, but they're not playing with garden rockets here. If something really goes wrong they could be stopped for months. Better to play by the rules. Of course, asking to have clear rules, precise guidelines and trying to get some people to move from the armchairs they are heating is quite another thing.

  44. SpaceX Super Heavy and Starship updates

Maybe they'd have less trouble with the FAA if they just said "Hey guys, we're gonna crash one of our ships today, 'kay? We good? Great!"
