Daft Punk announce split after 28 years
+primortal and one other reacted to Steven P. for a topic
Image via https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daft_Punk#/media/File:Daftpunklapremiere2010.jpg Daft Punk, who were responsible for some of the most influential dance tracks of all time, have announced their retirement after nearly 30 years. The duo broke the news in a typically-enigmatic video, titled Epilogue. In the clip, musicians Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, dressed in their iconic robot costumes, bid each other farewell in the desert, before one of them self-destructed. The band's longtime publicist confirmed the split to the BBC. Formed in Paris in 1993, the group brought the French underground house scene into the charts with hits like One More Time, Da Funk and Around The World. Their debut album, Homework, is considered a landmark in dance music; while they scored a worldwide hit in 2013 with the retro-disco single Get Lucky, featuring Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers. The song was taken from their most recent record, Random Access Memories, which won the Grammy for album of the year in 2014. Read more https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-561588672 points -

Tuskd and one other reacted to MateerL for a topic
Are you familiar with the concept of diminishing returns? Apple could provide 10 years of updates but that would not be a factor in me switching. I have personally never keep a phone over three years which is the same for most people. Do you keep your phones for five years? Saying that... I am not against OEMs providing updates longer. a lot of people would keep phones for over 3 years if they received updates. An usual need for OS updates is so apps like banking/finance apps & corporate apps(Exchange, Authenticators, etc.) are supported, device is corporate policy compliant. a 5 year old, decently specced, phone would still be capable hardware to run basic apps. a short support period is basically planned obsolescence.2 points -

Apple is tightening the noose around apps with 'irrationally high prices'

Sure especially when there's no one to police Apple's irrational high prices of hardware, it's all fair game. I always get annoyed when people complain over "irrationally high prices of hardware". Based on what? So, how are your Android updates going 2 years after phone was launched? Not so "irrationally overpriced" anymore? Isn't this whataboutism? Both Apple and Android flagships are irrationally priced. Period.2 points -

T-Mobile introduces an unlimited data plan that's actually unlimited
Brandon H reacted to boo_star for a topic
because carriers are ass holes when it comes to loop holes. in most plans the amount of data is "technically" unlimited but they will throttle you after a certain point bringing your speeds way down and putting you lower on the bandwidth priority list. edit: they just have to state the boundaries of the above in their fine print and the laws unfortunately allow it Throttling is placing a limit on it. If you throttle them, there is a limit to what they can download in a month. And I know there is always going to be a limit on that, but this is a limit imposed by them, rather than a limit by virtue of the technology used. I agree with you but unfortunately that's the loophole I'm talking about. By law that doesn't matter because they're not "technically" stopping the data, just limiting the speed Well yes. The UK had an ASA ruling some years ago on it. Apparently, you're free to call it Unlimited as long as you stick an asterisk next to Unlimited and then *Fair Use Policy applies somewhere in your ad. I'm not sure why we can't just refer to the dictionary and say that if you impose limits on it, at all, it isn't unlimited by definition but here we are.1 point -

Apple is investigating an issue related to 'pink squares' with the M1 Mac mini
Nas reacted to shockz for a topic
Still can't reliably run two monitors on on my Mac mini. I had an intel i7 2018 model-- literal static on one monitor after coming back from sleep. And yes, I've reset with all the little apple cheat codes and key combos at boot. Swapped cables, tried different monitors, etc... I fixed the issue permanently by axing HDMI cables and got two USB c to HDMI cables. Fast forward to my M1, the same issue persisted. This time though I couldn't run both monitors with usb c, and of course, the HDMI one was the one with static. I ended up getting an LG ultra wide, not because of the issue, but because I've been wanting one... so I'm back down to one monitor now and don't have to worry about getting two displays to work correctly. It's laughable how terrible external monitor support is with Macs, particularly with two external monitors. Haven't had the pink square issue yet. Actually, scratch that, yes I have. After I went to USB c for my monitor, I haven't saw it since.1 point -

Oh god. Read a book. You're so ignorant it's sad. Climate change/global warm is settled by everyone in the scientific community and general civilized world. You're just wrong and you need to accept it or be quiet. This isnt even something where it needs to be debated. The debate ended a decade ago and anyone who still denies this basic stuff is just a fool. "Climate change/global warm is settled by everyone in the scientific community..." I think you will find that statement is not accurate. There is no 100% consensus. " you need to accept it or be quiet" Why would you say that? Do you not believe in freedom of speech? Mankind can only progress with civilized and open debate. Don't agree with something someone has to say - show them why you don't agree. Perhaps it will get them thinking differently. "This isnt even something where it needs to be debated" Of course it does. If people do not question geopolitical / social / economic motivations of scientific studies or endeavors you can not possibly have the whole picture. Many scientists have had there careers destroyed by questioning the status quo. It is often career suicide. If it were not for some scientists throughout history throwing their careers on the line our world may not have progressed as far as it has. Bill Gates is a hypocrite - The world has to reduce it's carbon footprint, well except for me because I can afford to "offset" mine Would it not be 1000 times better if he didn't have such a huge footprint in the fist place, less wasted resources and such? 99% not enough for you? civilized debate only happens when both sides are debating in good faith and agree on some basics like facts. The maga people do not. They’re just wasting everybody’s time now and intentionally causing damage. If this so called global warming was such a big deal, how come countries like China & India, some of the WORST in terms of pollution, are let off the hook? This global warming crap is just more money redistribution. Taking from the wealthy and giving to the poor. Instead of bring up the lower countries, we punish the achievers. "Achievers" lol. The top 1% are born into wealth and exploit those below them. Why are you so intent on defending them...you're not one of them and there's no chance of you becoming one of them. Secondly, China is investing heavily into green technologies, so is India. So again, they're not off the hook, we just dont have influence over them...but they know they have to do it hence why they're doing green projects on massive scales. Again, learn something before embarrassing yourself. You're repeating fox news misinformation and its old, tired, and long disproven.1 point -

We're all suppose to repeat it because we told that what's happened. After all, our TVs told us right? They SHOWED us that was real lol.. Anyway, specifically the impossible "Sky Crane" and the maneuver it performs. You would test that on the moon before you risk billions sending it billions of miles away and rely on beeps and boops to tell you it worked. I'm not surprised we buy this stuff. People are getting anal swabbed for respiratory virus and still wearing masks. Aaaah. So you're in the "I do not understand it...so it must not be true" crowd. Why would they test the skycrane on the moon anyway ... vs. here on earth through simulations, tests in the lab and the work of very smart people? The moon and Mars are least in common with each other than the earth and Mars. Side note: Mars isn't "billions" of miles away. C'mon Jim, I thought you were smarter than this? The fabrication is clear. Notice how there is no reference to the moon's lunar cycle until 15,000 years ago? That's when they made it a hologram. People started to notice the sticker in the sky didn't change and they got concerned, so they made the hologram that was easier to change. And all those people that have watched these space ships lift off. It's just been a really big firework. Once it's out of view NASA know that there's no way for anyone to confirm what's happening, so they've just let it blow up while people are asleep. Then they pay actors to say that they were onboard the ships, that they went to the moon. Originally Armageddon was going to be a "real" mission, but then Bruce Willis was told he wouldn't be able to act again (y'know, since he wouldn't be able to appear in anything afterwards since he would have to pretend to be really dead) and he threatened to blow the whole thing wide open, so they released it as a film instead... Where was I going with this? Oh right! Yeah, it's all just the government trying to control you. They want you to believe their space nonsense so that you don't see what's really going on: caterpillars.1 point -
