Yeah, why on Earth would people want the ability to store lots of data locally and not be beholden to Wifi or cell phone reception, the latter of which is almost always metered, to access their data. What a bunch of weirdos!5 points -

You can still back your data up in the cloud if you choose. It isn't an either/or situation. I already do that and have been doing that for > 10 years, thank you very much. Which is the reason why I don't see the need for 1Tb on my mobile. Funny how when iPhones first came out with limited storage (16Gb!!!) this same argument was used to justify the limited storage. Now 16Gb was really really limited and I see 256Gb as the sweet spot. Well, you not seeing the need for it doesn't mean others may not desire a phone with such storage. I don't understand why you're so opposed to the idea. Assuming Apple release the device I'm sure they have data to suggest there is a market for such a device.5 points -

It is not entirely without merit, for example: iPhone 8/8 Plus/X: 1.5 hours in HEVC for 64GB; 7-8 hours for 256GB / source: https://www.macxdvd.com/mac-vi...-pro/4k-video-file-size.htm so someone who shoots a lot of personal video won't immediately be needing to export and make room with 1TB onboard.4 points -

I would LOVE to have 1TB on my phone. Local storage is awesome. I wouldn't worry about ever taking photos/videos off the phone and I'd just back it up as I normally do at home. Home storage is cheap. I'm also the person who has his entire music collection on the phone too, and I listen to lots of different songs all the time, so yes please!!4 points -

And when your data holder goes bust, or just has technical problems, or puts the price up unexpectedly, or a myriad of other things that could block you from accessing your cloud data? Then what? Giving other people control over how and when you can access your data is a bloody stupid idea, and I'm both AWS and Azure certified.3 points -

For the prices insane they charge for those overpriced phones, they should give you at least 1TB and then some along with a bunch of other stuff. it's amazing how many people always got to have the latest and greatest when one can get a pretty good phone, that's not all that much worse, for a fraction the cost.3 points -

Switching from Plex to Kodi + Emby add-on for 4K HDR streaming with subtitles
Circaflex and one other reacted to +BudMan for a topic
Again - I didn't mean to distract from you guide. If your having issues with plex, and xyz fixes that for you.. Then sure use that.. I have tried them all, I just always end up back using plex.. Even with its little quirks and issues.. I personally still think its the most well rounded and easy to use.. Especially for my users - since pretty much everything has a client.. Be it the cheapest of smart tv's to their tablets and phones.. pretty much any stick, etc. Just till them search plex on your device apps.. Different users have different needs.. You may not like going through your media and converting audio to X vs Y, etc. or changing your containers or codec.. Where I find this is one of the things that makes running my media server enjoyable.. I like curating the collection, I like standardizing the media.. I'm weird like that Not saying that you have to do that with plex - but I have found over the years it cuts down on any possible issues with player A not liking something, that player B might not have any problems with. Or sound system X can decode it fine - while system Y might have dropouts or issues with it, etc. If you are the only user of your library you might not run into issues... I have sent out couple of group emails to my users - showing them how to set their player so it less likely to transcode.. Many of them default to 720, and if they are watching 1080 that forces a transcode.. Its way easier on the server to not have to do that.. Especially if the bandwidth is there.. But some, less tech savy I have had to specifically reach out, hey your watching xyz in SD vs 1080.. Wouldn't you like it to look better I could always set it up so it warns them via a tautulli script - and could even force direct.. But that might generate more text to me saying hey - this isn't working2 points -

Verizon says you should turn off 5G to save battery
Elliot B. and one other reacted to sava700 for a topic
That is because the suggestion is for those that have 5G phones but are no where near a city that even offers it. It mimics the early days of hand held cell phones say early 2000's or late 1990's where "searching for signal" would eat a battery fast. You turn of that searching where it isn't even available and you don't have that happen.2 points -

matthiew and one other reacted to Mobius Enigma for a topic
Duh, he doesn't hate Apple. Where does this come from? It would be more accurate to say Apple hates Microsoft, and that isn't even 100% accurate. Apple's contract with Microsoft affords them a ton of technology they get to use developed by Microsoft. Apple products would have been a 'meh pass' if it wasn't for products from Microsoft - specifically in the 1970s and 80s. From the CP/M boards and DOS boards to Word and Excel giving the Mac a role in professional spaces. If Gates hated Apple, they could have dumped Office and other Mac integration and AD products years ago. If Microsoft were the 'dicks' they could have crippled Apple many times over. In the non-lawsuit agreement between Apple and Microsoft, Apple gets 99% of the benefit, with Apple developing very few technologies that Microsoft has ever needed or wanted to use. If you dig through things from Darwin to Metal, Apple is using a ton of Microsoft created and owned technologies. I'm sure Gates doesn't have warm feelings about Apple after the backstabbing and lawsuits, but hate is a bit over the top.2 points -

Microsoft quietly fixes weird Windows 10 drive corruption bug, but only in Insider build
Usama Jawad96 reacted to Fleet Command for a topic
Except that this build isn't for 21H1 (the major update of Windows), which means that we aren't getting it for 6-7 months from this point, at the very least, if Microsoft keeps on testing in this channel. Also, Patch Tuesday can also be utilized for issues like this rather than waiting for feature updates dependent on Insider builds. This issue isn't new, it was first discovered in January. 7 months? I'm sorry, but how did you do that math? 21H1 is scheduled for release in March! Did you mean to write 21H2? I mean that this Insider build isn't for testing 21H1. And yes, 21H2 won't be here until several months if this patch is scheduled for that release (which the patch in the current Insider channel would indicate) Oh. Now I see. Hehe. There is always this problem when somebody says "isn't" without exactly specifying how isn't. For example, "it isn't even green" doesn't exactly say what color other than green "it" actually is.1 point -

I find it interesting/funny that tech people dismiss Gates as if he is just another billion that doesn't have low level understanding of technology. While people like Larry Ellison or Steve Jobs were making fun of engineers and programming as being 'beneath them' - Gates was proudly still engineering and programming code for Microsoft products up until the day he left. Personal Perspective: I have seen his handwritten notes on PCB and processor designs going back to the 70s, and read code he wrote in the 80s and 90s that it is brilliant. HIs notes and work wasn't management level BS, it was a step ahead of the engineers on the projects. Love or hate Gates, fine, dismiss him understanding or ability to use technology, and you are making a mistake.1 point -

This ^ You need to remember Neowin tailors to the basic consumer bitches, I don't know why I keep giving this site the benefit of the doubt. Half the comments are from people who have zero idea about.... anything. It's like the idiot above who said remove the OneDrive client, really?? Guess he doesn't work for a business who is heavily invested in Azure\365. Guess they've never heard of redirecting known folders, or the benefits of other features available in the client. Neowin's favourite word in click bait articles is "finally". FINALLY blah blah.... no... Most of you can just blow me. Go away. Anyone with half a brain would realize OneDrive can be downloaded, and should be if the current version is out of date. Which, in case it’s not obvious, is exactly what happens when apps like that are built into the OS. So why not remove it so someone who needs it grabs the latest version and not some crusty price of crap? People who don’t want it won’t have it and people who need it will have an up-to-date version. It’s not rocket science. 1. The OneDrive NGSC auto-updates on first login. 2. It's possible to update the OneDrive client during OSD using a task sequence, or even rolling it into your base install.wim (install.wim\windows\system32\onedrivesetup.exe). On that note, in the TS I deploy the following step is ran - c:\windows\system32\onedrivesetup.exe /allusers. This avoids having multiple copies stored in user profiles. 3. Learn to manage the client, plenty of documentation out there. So...extra work to deal with a preinstalled program. Makes sense.1 point -
