Volvo plans to go all-electric by 2030, and you'll need to buy online
Ve7878 and 4 others reacted to Neonix1 for a topic
Manufacturing electric cars is worse for the environment than any combustion engine. This mumbo jumbo touted by these CEO's need to stop. You don't fight climate change by making less reliable cars that in the future will become subscription services based just like everything else. What hurts the climate most about cars is the rapid buy and sell cycle that the car companies promote these days. Cars barely reach "old age" any more. They're tossed away as scrap while still being fairly new and fully functional. Huge fleets of barely used cars sit around in huge lots completely unused because people were offered a better deal on something newer and flashier. That is the absolute WORST thing for the climate about cars. Wether you buy an electric car or gasoline car, as long as you keep it, service and maintain it, and use it for 15-20 years, which is considered the normal lifespan of a decent quality car (as long as YOU maintain it), it barely makes a dent in the environment. Emissions from cars alone count for about 2% of the worldwide CO2. There is a lot more that can be improved and changed that will have a far greater impact on the climate than electrifying cars... But I guess those things doesn't generate income for all these companies as much as subscription cars and electric charging does.5 points -

Criterion's next Need for Speed delayed, studio to help out with Battlefield 6
czoigberg and 3 others reacted to RejZoR for a topic
I was playing NFS games since TNFS back in early 90's. The way EA treats NFS franchise I just stopped caring about it. Especially now that Criterion is in charge for it again. Criterion made excellent Burnout games on PlayStation 2, but all NFS games from them are so god damn soulless and generic. None of them have any story either. Sigh. I'm especially annoyed how Ghost team actually made NFS Heat to 90% and when we hoped they'll add those extra 10%, the only NFS game that actually had tons of potential got entirely sacked just 3 months after launch. NFS Heat could be one of best NFS games in last decade. But they just didn't care. Now I don't care and EA fan go F themselves for that.4 points -

Those people that live in sunny places like southern california love to tell you that solar is the future, except they dont consider any other place on the planet where solar isnt feasible. Cleveland, OH is one of the cloudiest places in the US. Sure, the sun is out as i type this, but fall and winter are 90% gray. Also, the massive CA solar grid failed them last summer with rolling blackouts due to their horrible electric grid, massive temperatures, wildfires and no where to store the solar power. sounds like a great future to me!3 points -
Twitter starts labeling tweets with false claims about COVID-19 vaccine
matthiew and 2 others reacted to Zerosignull for a topic
It is the consensus by the experts (yes, experts...I know that is a dirty word for your type) that taking the vaccine, wearing masks and social distancing are appropriate steps to take to minimize both catching the virus and spreading it to loved ones. Define what is your definition of an expert for this situation? The vaccines have at most 6 months of testing and during the testing, they cut corner in every single aspect (self-testing = no testing at all). Can you show me a formal paper that documents the testings? I believe in vaccines but not in all vaccines. IMHO : * Pfizer = The worse of the bunch. * Moderna = so much risk of side effects. * AstraZeneca and Johnsons & Johnsons = I think they are a copy of Moderna. Just a couple of weeks ago, AstraZeneca owned shares of Moderna. * Sinovac = the best by far (and cheaper). * Sputnik = it's another that is working fine Aaaaand in one post you managed to prove why Twitter are doing this and what a good thing it will be. Astrazenica has formal papers that shows how they did the testing. Why are Phizer the worse of the bunch? Hows the AstraZenica and J&J vaccine that use historic ways to make vaccine the same as the RNA vaccine from others? Why is Sinovac with an effacacy of just 50% better than the others? You spout opinions which then makes it harder to actually combat the pandemic.3 points -

Nokia/Microsoft dropped the ball pretty hard on this one. Lumia had the best camera tech around early 2010s. I still remember people buying the 520 in droves, one of the reasons because its camera was far better than anything even 2x its price. With the 1020, they had (have?) a Pixel like cult following. I mean I had the vaccine and I got a sore arm and a headache. You don't think a short arm ache and headache that go (not talking about any of the american vaccines) quickly are worth not getting permanent health effects? But the vaccine is really effective and for how long? It's amazing that these questions continue to be asked... maybe you should re-eval your news sources. This information has been available for months. Yes they're effective, and yes, we'll likely need boosters that would be included in an annual flu vaccine. shockz, what about the 40-50% of the people that never get a flu shot? I've never had one nor have I ever had the flu (even though I've been around plenty of people that had the flu). I've also been in close prolonged contact with a family member that was positive for SARS-COV2 (notice I didn't say COVID-19 because PCR doesn't test for the disease, its tests for the virus. They are NOT the same thing but I digress) and never tested positive for the virus (or antibodies). I have no intentions of getting any SARS-COV2 vaccinations (of flu for that matter) for the foreseeable future. My work has already said they will not require it. I do not fly or travel outside the country. If I did decide based on consultation with my physician to get it, it would likely be the J&J variety. I'm not sold on mRNA yet. It's a rather promising technique with two decades of research history but an somewhat abysmal track record of success until this particular one. I'd like very much to see if there is any impact 12-18 months down the road to ensure there are no 'unforeseen' issues. As to the original topic, I do however support anyone that wants to get vaccinated to do so and at this point I no longer care what Twitter does or doesn't do. They are a private company that regularly closes the door to dissenting opinion because they need to 'protect people from certain crack pots - but not all crack pots' . At least the flat earthers and moon landing deniers still get to push their crazy ideas. My only question is what will be the responses if a year or two from now, we find out some of the crack pots were right? Stop holding the flu up as some sort of comparative illness they are not. Covid is mostly transmissible before you get symptoms and falls off after day5~. So yeah being in contact with someone while they have it isn't a guarantee your going to get it. Did you at any point get a PCR test done to see if you asymptomatic like the majority of people who have had Covid? FYI in the UK there were little to no flu cases in the last flu season but there were a lot of Covid cases. Maybe, just maybe, one is a lot more infectious than the other?2 points -

Volvo plans to go all-electric by 2030, and you'll need to buy online
dustojnikhummer and one other reacted to n_K for a topic
Everyone also quotes that scotland ran off solar power alone in summer last year, and that it would be easy to add electric cars and get them running green... Except in summer, no one has heating on which uses a substantial amount of power, the sun is shining the most of the whole year and not many people have electric cars. Flip that to winter, suddenly everyone has heating on, there is no solar power, NONE, and now everyone has an electric car which, due to not generating heat in the engine, is going to use substantially more electricity to heat the car itself up which it doesn't in summer... Where's that power going to come from? As of every person I've asked thus far, no-one has been able to give me an answer, in fact the people with electric cars just stop talking at that point and change to an entirely different subject. But it's a real problem, in 20 years when apparently everyone has electric cars, how is this massive extra demand on the electric grid going to be addressed?2 points -

domboy and one other reacted to Jason S. for a topic
As i said in my previous comment, i'm all for reducing pollution and slowing global warming, but this rush to all-electric isnt the way to do it. What would be better is to improve the efficiency of modern combustion engines and continue to work our way to cheaper electric cars. Is there a battery tech that doesnt require massive amounts of lithium? this industry calls lithium "white oil" b/c it's going to be the next massive commodity. as it stands, there isnt enough lithium on the earth today to replace every car w/ batteries, let alone long-term. batteries produce massive amount of toxic waste that has to be stored somewhere. Electric cars require massive amounts of precious metals that are already being gobbled up for other means like electronics, bullion, jewelery, etc. Then there's cobalt, which is currently a filthy mining procedure that often exploits the poorest countries w/ harsh labor conditions. that's just the tip of the iceberg. Electric sounds romantic and gets everyone feeling good, but it's not sustainable.2 points -

Lumia 950 had THE BEST camera for that period, competitors didn't come even close for a while If you had said the 925 then I would have agreed. The 950 camera doesn't have OIS and it doesn't handle low light or hand shake so well. (Present tense because I still use my 950). I saw a video on this the other day, it was about the adoption of electric cars and why it isn't happening faster. It's evaluation of the situation was actually the biggest issue currently is infrastructure. Currently the US government is offering incentives to buy electric cars....when it should probably be spending more incentivizing the infrastructure to make it feasible to own an electric car for those who don't have somewhere to charge at home and to cover all the gaps on the high ways. They should also have more high speed charging stations.2 points -

Probably more like... "Twitter starts labeling tweets that are not pro-vaccine as false'. it's simply a matter of trust and my general mindset is this... a high percentage of people will probably by fine straight up, so why inject something into ones body? ; I tend to see there being a higher risk from the rushed vaccine than from what it's supposed to protect you against in the first place to the average/healthy person (and if this is true, I am sure the corrupt media etc will censor it as usual). bottom line... there no way am I getting that shot as there is a lot of BS politics around covid with masks etc which is all the more reason I tend to just block out the noise (since what the media feeds people is rarely the truth anymore) and get on with life as usual.2 points -

You can still back your data up in the cloud if you choose. It isn't an either/or situation. I already do that and have been doing that for > 10 years, thank you very much. Which is the reason why I don't see the need for 1Tb on my mobile. Funny how when iPhones first came out with limited storage (16Gb!!!) this same argument was used to justify the limited storage. Now 16Gb was really really limited and I see 256Gb as the sweet spot. the only one turning this into a debate is you...its an option, you dont have to buy it. I see uses for low storage w/ icloud and high storage (recording a lot of video while not on wifi, preferring local than using the cloud, etc).2 points -
