Well it did land and that was the hard part.. What happens 5 minutes later doesn't matter Tell that to the astronauts if they where on board onboard. Poor analogy. The rocket will be dramatically different when it's ready for human flights. The point of these tests to to beat the hell out of it and figure out what it takes to make it fail. A fully successful launch and landing doesn't prove a whole lot, and they learned a great deal about what happens with a hard landing.5 points -

It's amazing how some only see the boom.. SpaceX pretty much has shown they can launch, flip, descent and land a 15 story, 30 feet wide building. This is a prototype vehicle with prototype engines and remember it is just 18 months ago that they did the first hop, the progress is insane. SpaceX is way ahead of what most who understand the complexity of this expected. The boom was just a bonus really and all it did was give SpaceX more data to work towards getting a vehicle that is reliable and safe to be used to get human kind to the Moon and Mars. This test flight was a major achievement and a big step forwards towards that goal.. The shot of the vehicle doing the landing maneuver was majestic and straight out of a SciFi movie.. except it was real..4 points -

I don't care if it exploded afterwards. They got that thing to land in one piece. A 9 meter wide, 55 meter high rocket. Again, a 9 meter wide, 55 meter high rocket. Shot it up to 10km, flipped it horizontal, got it to glide back and landed the thing next to the 'bullseye' on the landing pad. Anyone who makes fun of this has no clue about the achievement of this event.3 points -

If it's a Microsoft account you'll have to do a password reset. If it's a local account and you don't want to download the boot cd but have a windows 10 install cd handy.. you can do this2 points -
On-premises Exchange servers are under attack from a state-sponsored group
n_K and one other reacted to scorp508 for a topic
I was reading yesterday something completely unrelated but it mentioned that companies will generally still have one on-premesis exchange server even with office 365 and that was to do with account syncronisation? I didn't fully grasp it because I thought the whole point of azure AD was to allow that so I'm really not sure why you would also need an exchange service... ADC basically syncs an on-prem directory up to Azure AD. Some orgs keep an on premise environment in hybrid for security reasons, testing, internal relays, etc... It is required to keep at least one on-premises Exchange server if you are in a hybrid deployment. This is due to Active Directory being the authoritative directory for objects which have been sync'd to AAD and you must manage some attribute via Exchange management tools on-premises. There is currently no supported way to have no on-premises Exchange server if you're hybrid.2 points -

Nintendo reportedly preparing a new Switch model with a 7-inch OLED display
MateerL reacted to Paul1979UK for a topic
Why would a handheld PC make handheld consoles irrelevant? Nintendo isn't going to suddenly start putting Mario and Zelda on PC, nor would those franchises suddenly start losing fans just because Dell crammed Steam into a handheld. Nintendo literally has to do nothing but announce a Pokemon game or Yo-kai Watch game and they'll move hardware. There could be a convention in the US for only Zelda and it would sell out every year because those fans are crazy. Technically, Nintendo games are already on the PC by emulations, even for the Nintendo Switch. That's what I love about Nintendo, because they stay behind the curve, it becomes a lot easier to emulate their platforms.1 point -

Apple's new tool will allow users to move iCloud Photos to Google Photos with ease

Can't wait for a straightforward way to download/copy photo's and videos (all filetypes) from iCloud photos to any storage service (not Google photos). Takes me hours to download thousands of photos from iCloud photos to my MacBook and then upload them to my 1TB onedrive storage. ... and then we have the occasional failures while exporting them via the photo app in macOS, so I must split them into batches of say 300-500 photos.1 point -

Brandon H reacted to +Biscuits Brown for a topic
GIMP's a usable alternative assuming you just want a single image saved in a single size to an ICO file. Tools like Axialis will allow you to create full ICO packages containing many different sizes and color depths. In the end, it depends on the final use. I use Axialis so I can package a full set of icons into a application. You may not need that in this case and GIMP may suffice.1 point -

AMD launches $479 Radeon RX 6700 XT, claims to rival the RTX 3070 with 50% more VRAM
alpha2beta reacted to Mobius Enigma for a topic
Until they can match Ray Tracing performance and offer a DLSS 2 solution, these are NOT YET comparable to similar NVidia cards. Using just the 'like a 3070' comparison, the 3070 can run games at higher resolutions with several times the FPS using DLSS. Sure the rasterization engines are similar in speed, but when the 3070 only has to rasterize a 720p scene and display it looking better than a native 1080p scene, this is a big difference. In this context, the NVidia 3070 is faster than the 6900XT from AMD because it can rendering higher resolutions, looking better, at faster FPS. I expect AMD (along with Microsoft) to get a DLSS alternative available in the next few months, but until they do, buying AMD is not yet an equal choice. (This is not a 'stan' NVidia opinion. This is something less technical observers should be aware, especially if they have not seen DLSS 2 or the ray tracing performance number differences.)1 point -

Myself too, just forwarded this to our IT department, thanks for the heads up! Your IT department needs you to forward security alerts to them? I would rather someone reaches out with information instead of assuming it's already known. I've sent plenty of things to our security teams. It could be helpful to them, it could just start a chat, and they could teach me something about how they were already prepared or how they countered the possible attack.1 point -

MacBook Pro 13 (M1) review: A heck of a start for Apple, but not very pro

"I've often found hardware reviews on Neowin to be quite amateur and to recommend the Intel MacBook Pro over the Apple Silicon ones just about sums this site up" If you feel that way why did you read the review and why are you even here? Wait, so you want to know why Steve who's been here ~7 years read/watched the content and posted about it? Huh, when you put it that way, I have no idea... I've only been here ~16 years, as has spybeef. I guess we've just all been wasting our time reading articles here... Thanks for helping me see the light!! /s But seriously though, nobody should be expected to just pat people on the ass or completely agree with something. That's kinda the whole point of having a comment system to begin with... to have a conversation. Some people are passionate about this stuff... just as Rich was passionate about giving an iPhone a 7/10 because it didn't have a fingerprint reader. We're a bunch of tech nerds and we're just gonna disagree at times. It happens.1 point -

How to reset a forgotten Windows 8 /10 account password
xrobwx71 reacted to +Warwagon for a topic
How to reset a forgotten Windows 8 / 10 account password If you buy a computer or are working a computer with windows 8 you might find it harder to do simple tasks because of the UEFI. Today I got a computer in my office where all off the sudden he could not log onto his Windows 8 account, he must have somehow changed the windows 8 logon password and had no idea what the new password was. Because of the UEFI bios, a lot of the bootable utilities I would use to reset the password couldn?t see the hard drive, including bartpe. The bios also had very little settings. Upon looking online there was a neat little password reset hack for Windows 8 Boot off a Windows 8 DVD / USB Select Repair Your Computer Select Troubleshoot ? refresh or reset your pc or use advanced tools Select Advanced options Select command prompt Once the command prompt appears navigate to the c:\windows\system32 Rename utilman.exe to anything else (ren utilman.exe utilman2.exe) Rename cmd.exe to utilman.exe (ren cmd.exe utilman.exe) Now restart the computer. Once inside windows at the password box, click the little icon in the bottom left of your screen. At this point a command prompt will open up. At the command prompt type Net user (Then your username) * Make sure there is a space between your username and the *. Then press enter. It will now ask you to enter a new password for your account. You have to type it twice. That?s it! You should now be able to access the account again! Once you are back into your account you will want to go back to c:\windows\system32 and rename those files back to what they should be. ... Accounts which are tied to a Microsoft Account. I had a customers machine in my office which he had forgotten the password. He also somehow signed it up with a bogus gmail address. So there was no address to send a reset code to. I was about ready to reinstall when I wondered if I would be able to activate the administrator account using the command prompt above. So on that command prompt window above I typed in net user administrator /active:yes it said the command had been entered successfully. I then restarted the computer and upon reboot, the administrator account was an option. Once logged in I was able to access the account, backup his file and then delete the account off the computer and create a new one. I had to use the command prompt to create a new user. So I ran utilman (cmd was still renamed) ... and typed net user username password /ADD example net user owner 1234 /add Now I logged into the admin account and set that account up from standard to Admin and removed the password.1 point
