  2. Microsoft seems to be shutting down its UserVoice forums

And yet it's totally on brand for them. Customer engagement has always been weird from Microsoft. Everything from documentation to support to feedback has been inconsistent, unreliable, and under managed. I'm surprised there's simply never been a public issue tracker of some kind from Microsoft that can handle suggestions with votes as well as support requests, bug reports, and so on. That Answers site of theirs is a joke and it's kind of laughable that a company of Microsoft's scale had a UserVoice site at all. It's somehow equivalent to them just shoving a bunch of MVPs on a Microsoft subreddit and calling that community engagement.

It'd probably be helpful if they got someone who was at least slightly impartial to review Apple products.

  6. Microsoft seems to be shutting down its UserVoice forums

No surprise and it's not like they even listened to the feedback given on Uservoice or cared about any feature requests or bug fix requests. It was just a dumping ground for useful feedback ignored for years. Even Insider Hub reports about bugs got unfixed for years, and it's closed/limited to the app so you can't see or access it via the web.

  8. Intel Evo vs Apple Silicon part eight: Conclusion

Spot-on! That or have someone (more) knowledgable about Apple products do the review/comparison. Sadly, they don't exist. Apple's policy puts a lot of emphasis on forming fan followings. You are either with Apple or not. There is no gray area, no impartial people. Yea...I'm really not sure what people want from me here. I feel like if I'm not saying that Apple Silicon isn't God's gift to the computing industry and is better than everything else in every possible way, then clearly I must be biased. As I mentioned, my overall finding was that I loved using the MacBook Pro, but felt that it was a real shame that there were too many limitations to ever consider it as a daily driver. So for something that I can't consider as a daily driver, I'm supposed to be praising it? The conclusion is to wait until the next generation when Apple has this stuff worked out, and that's somehow not good enough. Honestly, I was offered this hardware again, no matter who it's from, I wouldn't accept the project. It's not worth reading comments who aren't even remotely interested in discussing the differences between the products, but instead just want to bash you for not being an Apple fanboy, and it's not worth being accused of being paid off by Intel. Although it's easy to tell who has no clue what's going on by seeing people accuse writers of being paid off. You put a lot of effort into this project and I, for one, appreciate it. I think the only thing you did wrong was mistakenly using the word "inbox" when you meant "built-in". 😉 But on the whole, you tried your best to represent a neutral point of view. If the world can't see it, then, screw the world.

  12. Microsoft seems to be shutting down its UserVoice forums

App-exclusive things are ridiculous. Given that people's dependency on having dedicated apps really hurt Windows 10 Mobile, you'd think the company would do more to embrace web-based solutions that are truly platform agnostic.

  13. Visual Studio Code adds native support for Apple Silicon Macs

There's really no real benefit it would get from moving to 64 bit for x86. The 32bit version will be faster and consume less memory. Unless they do a significant amount of work, the 64bit x86 version will be slower and bloatier, and even then the difference might only reduce to negligible. However, to support ARM, they will have to port it to 64bit as ARM64 is dropping 32bit support soon. And it probably wouldn't make sense to maintain 32bit and 64bit versions of VS, so I assume they'll move to 64bit eventually for both x86 and ARM. I've had numerous times VS has ran out of memory and crashed....

I noticed something weird Microsoft is faster at porting their app to ARM for a concurrent OS than for their own OS 🤣

  17. Wiring cat5 and cat6

Use electrical tape for that, no need to waste a zip-tie. also when you do dress your cables at the patch panel side (assuming you do use a patch panel, which you should, future proofing and all that jazz again) use double sided Velcro straps, don't use zip ties, you'll thank me for this advice later...

  18. Wiring cat5 and cat6

Hello. Ethernet and phone cables have both similarities and differences, but can't be mistaken for each other. CAT5 and CAT6 cables are much thicker than telephone cables. Their ends are much bulkier. Telephone cables commonly employ RJ11 jacks, known as 6P4C. (You can see four copper connectors.) Ethernet cables are employ a type of RJ45 jacks known as 8P8C. (You can see eight copper connectors.) That said, you must not use the expensive CAT cables for telephone purposes. CAT5 and CAT6 cables are compatible. A switch or router designed for CAT6 cables needs to have more powerful CPUs and signal capacitors to take advantage of CAT6's higher bandwidth. DO NOT brutally zip-tie or aggressively bend CAT6 cables! These cables are expensive (especially if they have tinfoil shielding) and must be properly installed and terminated to meet their specifications. Their bend radius must be four times larger than the outer diameter of the cable.

  19. Wiring cat5 and cat6

Your close but wrong with the connectors. Phone lines are typically RJ11/RJ12 not RJ45, RJ45 is ethernet cable connectors. Cat5 thru Cat 7 can be used as phone cable but they are typically used for Networks, VoIP and PBX systems, typically Cat 3 and under are used for phone lines. Cat5,6,7 and I think 8 when used in conjunction with typical RJ45 connects are all electrically compatible, for future proofing Cat6+ should be used, regardless of if your going to be running 10Gbe+ or not though it does come in at a price penalty to futureproof (Higher the Category higher the price and more difficulty to terminate the cables). The wiki page on Registered Jacks is a good resource to learn of the different RJ jacks.

"Pump and dump scheme".... I mean, I don't mean to be dismissive, but isn't that pretty much what investment is? Buy low, sell high? It's no different then the ###### people do on wall street to make a killing. It's douchey, sure... But it's not out of the ordinary type behavior in the business world. Would they be charging this guy if he bought high and sold low? No. So why go after this? Literally everyone who has invested in digital currency is looking to pump and dump (unless they got in when the price was at its bottom, cuz damn, they rich asf now :-p )... People only care about this because it's the rich guy getting richer, and not the poor guy coming up in the world. Nobody cares what that guy does cuz he appears more deserving to the 99%... It's only when the 1% does this that the world is up in arms... All I'm sayin is, if you're gonna stand for something, you better be willing to apply that standard to everyone, and not just the people you think aren't deserving of that wealth.

Ya, my bad for not checking it out first, but I originally heard it on my local radio station and they usually check stuff out pretty good before saying anything. Still, with that Apple case and that girl with Gorilla Glue, it wasn't that hard to believe. As for the link, it was just the first result in the search I did.

  31. Agreed. The amount of RAM it uses is not worth it for the 0,2 seconds it saves to open the browser.

  32. Its not. I'm not blind. Seen this with IE before. It's always best to stay with 3rd party browsers. You don't want one browser that ties too deep into the OS. Microsoft is simply doing another IE, and that is pretty clear for anyone that's been in tech for a while. Its as close to becoming IE as Chrome is. Considering its cross platform...what are these deep OS ties you are referring to? There are many. Please tell me how I can complete uninstall Edge without hacking it out of my Windows 10 installation? I don't want Edge or any browser pushed down my throat. But Edge, just like IE, is being pushed down everybody's throat, because of deep integrations and ties into the OS, and it's not possible to simply uninstall it. Add deep integrations with Bing and other MS services on top of it. Edge is being pushed onto everyone just like IE was. NO THANKS. So to you, deep OS ties are merely it not knowing how to uninstall? https://1drv.ms/u/s!AiOH5gkEn6ZfufsKaMaqfUsLknlTQQ?e=0fDsOo ^^ I have a listing for it. Also: https://mspoweruser.com/how-to-uninstall-microsoft-edge-in-windows-10/ Running an uninstall command is not hacking it out of the system. There are plenty of good reasons to have a built-in browser anyway...how else would you download one if there wasn't one to begin with?

  38. fast forward a couple of years, and Edge now creates presentations, automatically replies to your emails, manages virtual machines, controls your thermostat, picks up the groceries, walks your dog, sleeps with your wife, attends those boring meeting you don't want to, but still has that one bug where typing 'google' suddenly sets your house on fire.

  44. SpaceX almost lands Starship successfully on the third attempt

Indeed yes. Once again they managed to completely fail at doing something McDonnell Douglas did 20 years ago... That one only had a potential payload of 3000-lbs. Starship is orders of magnitude larger and orders of magnitude larger payload capacity. The clipper was closer to the initial Starhopper prototypes. The Falcon9 can deliver 7000-lb to GTO and still be almost fully reuseable.

  45. SpaceX almost lands Starship successfully on the third attempt

I don't care if it exploded afterwards. They got that thing to land in one piece. A 9 meter wide, 55 meter high rocket. Again, a 9 meter wide, 55 meter high rocket. Shot it up to 10km, flipped it horizontal, got it to glide back and landed the thing next to the 'bullseye' on the landing pad. Anyone who makes fun of this has no clue about the achievement of this event.

  47. SpaceX almost lands Starship successfully on the third attempt

Well it did land and that was the hard part.. What happens 5 minutes later doesn't matter Tell that to the astronauts if they where on board onboard. Poor analogy. The rocket will be dramatically different when it's ready for human flights. The point of these tests to to beat the hell out of it and figure out what it takes to make it fail. A fully successful launch and landing doesn't prove a whole lot, and they learned a great deal about what happens with a hard landing.
