  1. Intel Evo vs Apple Silicon part eight: Conclusion

It's amazing how many free resources there are to get into software development. 4-year $200K Ivy League degrees are NO longer necessary to land a $400K/year job at Google.

  3. Was about to say the same! Very well written and explained! I didn't have to look for secondary sources to understand it. “Additionally, Google used Word Clouds to visualize the semantic meaning behind each cohort” Hah! I was thinking of adding a disclaimer that some amount of knowledge of statistics/maths/machine learning would be preferred before you dive into the article but then decided against it because it might sound too pretentious. Although, I'm happy to refer readers to relevant articles if they are interested in knowing more about the methodologies mentioned briefly in the article. I studied most of these methods like agglomerative clustering method with changing centroids during the Data Science course at university and I know how mathematical/technical they can be so I did not go into too many details and just briefly discussed their concept. And specifically with respect to word clouds, I'll add here that it is a visualization technique to show keywords from the data in this case. These keywords can be used to understand the semantic meaning behind a collection of text. For example, in this case, when Google tested the algorithm on the music data, they generated a cohort which had a word cloud containing keywords like "metal", "hard metal", etc. which shows that the cohort mostly contained users who tend to listen to songs of the metal genre, so it's a good cohort/classification. Sorry, I know I could have explained it more in the article but I didn't want to make it a longer read than it already is

  4. Intel Evo vs Apple Silicon part eight: Conclusion

Spot-on! That or have someone (more) knowledgable about Apple products do the review/comparison. Sadly, they don't exist. Apple's policy puts a lot of emphasis on forming fan followings. You are either with Apple or not. There is no gray area, no impartial people. Yea...I'm really not sure what people want from me here. I feel like if I'm not saying that Apple Silicon isn't God's gift to the computing industry and is better than everything else in every possible way, then clearly I must be biased. As I mentioned, my overall finding was that I loved using the MacBook Pro, but felt that it was a real shame that there were too many limitations to ever consider it as a daily driver. So for something that I can't consider as a daily driver, I'm supposed to be praising it? The conclusion is to wait until the next generation when Apple has this stuff worked out, and that's somehow not good enough. Honestly, I was offered this hardware again, no matter who it's from, I wouldn't accept the project. It's not worth reading comments who aren't even remotely interested in discussing the differences between the products, but instead just want to bash you for not being an Apple fanboy, and it's not worth being accused of being paid off by Intel. Although it's easy to tell who has no clue what's going on by seeing people accuse writers of being paid off. You put a lot of effort into this project and I, for one, appreciate it. I think the only thing you did wrong was mistakenly using the word "inbox" when you meant "built-in". 😉 But on the whole, you tried your best to represent a neutral point of view. If the world can't see it, then, screw the world.

  12. Intel Evo vs Apple Silicon part eight: Conclusion

    1. First of all, I'm not going to write up forward-looking statements as fact. I realize that everyone here seems to want me to be an Apple cheerleader instead of writing my experience, but if it's not supported, it's not supported. But also, any chance you have a link to where Apple promised to fix this in a future update? I've not seen any evidence that this was going to change. If it does change, however, I'll happily update this article, as well as other parts of the series where I mentioned the lack of multi-monitor support. I'm also not going to write about a third-party workaround for Apple explicitly not supporting it. 2. I wasn't only talking about Intel apps when I said apps launch faster on Intel PCs

Maybe this new Edge is better but I've never had a good experience browsing the web on a console. Yeah, I am not to sure why anyone would do that. I have used the built-in browser to get to sites that host shows, like Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, to stream entire episodes of shows, when there was -- at the time -- no alternative way to stream it on the Xbox via apps. The alternative is to use something like ChromeCast or AirPlay to stream it from other devices, and have hardware able to do it. I now have an Apple TV, so I doubt I would need to do that again, but it's nice to have the option.

What I'd like is for someone who doesn't clearly have a strong dislike for anything Apple to be the one to review Apple products. Your dislike for them is very clear in every review you've done, and that's fine as long as you're not a reviewer. Someone reviewing products should be impartial, but you're clearly not capable of doing that with Apple products. The lengths you'll go to to try and prove that Apple products are crap by finding the most absurdly irrelevant "flaws" is probably the one reason why I bother to read your reviews, it's bordering on comedy at this point. You're just not suited to reviewing this stuff. That's fine but it's dragging down the credibility of this site.

  27. "k" is actually the number of users in a cohort, but yes, I completely get what you're saying, which is that if there are 100 users and 100 cohorts are generated for them (which would be the result of a poor algorithm tbh), they could all be individually tracked. I think there's a long way to go which is why we'll mostly be seeing testing this year rather than a full-scale implementation. Google claims that the cohort ID alone can't be used to de-identify individual users unless it is paired with other information signals as well. As such, I think work needs to be done on the governance and security aspect too before this is given a greenlight This was my first though, noting that they didn't specify what size "k" is. It seems unlikely that someone in one city with very similar interests to someone in another city would be assigned the same cohort, as location will certainly come into this as well. I'm curious, but also skeptical.

  28. Wiring cat5 and cat6

Cat6a is definitely more expensive to the tune of 2-3 times the cost of Cat6. Proper terminators that make use of the drain wire add to that cost as well. Go with higher MHz Cat6 or Cat6e and call it good.
    1 point
  29. Wiring cat5 and cat6

Run Cat6a instead of Cat6 for networking and/or IP phones. The price point isn't much higher but the speed and reliability are much better. You want to be future-proof anyway.

  31. Wiring cat5 and cat6

Your close but wrong with the connectors. Phone lines are typically RJ11/RJ12 not RJ45, RJ45 is ethernet cable connectors. Cat5 thru Cat 7 can be used as phone cable but they are typically used for Networks, VoIP and PBX systems, typically Cat 3 and under are used for phone lines. Cat5,6,7 and I think 8 when used in conjunction with typical RJ45 connects are all electrically compatible, for future proofing Cat6+ should be used, regardless of if your going to be running 10Gbe+ or not though it does come in at a price penalty to futureproof (Higher the Category higher the price and more difficulty to terminate the cables). The wiki page on Registered Jacks is a good resource to learn of the different RJ jacks.

  32. Intel Evo vs Apple Silicon part eight: Conclusion

A couple of issue’s i’ve noticed with this series, 1 the multiple external display issue on the M1 Macs will be fixed with a future Big Sur update which Apple themselves have promised but for now you can get around by using a DisplayLink driver and an external dock. 2 the long loading times of the Intel apps on Rosetta 2 are only for the first run of the app as Rosetta is translating them after the inital first launch they open up newrly instantly like the native Arm versions do. If there were more research into these “issues” an lot less bias towards Intel it would have been a fairer more interesting series

  40. Its not. I'm not blind. Seen this with IE before. It's always best to stay with 3rd party browsers. You don't want one browser that ties too deep into the OS. Microsoft is simply doing another IE, and that is pretty clear for anyone that's been in tech for a while. Its as close to becoming IE as Chrome is. Considering its cross platform...what are these deep OS ties you are referring to? There are many. Please tell me how I can complete uninstall Edge without hacking it out of my Windows 10 installation? I don't want Edge or any browser pushed down my throat. But Edge, just like IE, is being pushed down everybody's throat, because of deep integrations and ties into the OS, and it's not possible to simply uninstall it. Add deep integrations with Bing and other MS services on top of it. Edge is being pushed onto everyone just like IE was. NO THANKS. So to you, deep OS ties are merely it not knowing how to uninstall? https://1drv.ms/u/s!AiOH5gkEn6ZfufsKaMaqfUsLknlTQQ?e=0fDsOo ^^ I have a listing for it. Also: https://mspoweruser.com/how-to-uninstall-microsoft-edge-in-windows-10/ Running an uninstall command is not hacking it out of the system. There are plenty of good reasons to have a built-in browser anyway...how else would you download one if there wasn't one to begin with?

  45. Microsoft has not invested much in VBA. Current versions of Office have used the same VBA editor since Office 2000. It is also not possible to define a different editor in settings. The newer (2013 and later) cross-platform (desktop, mobile, and web) add-in model is not accessible to business professionals since we can't record our code in a macro, and it is based on JavaScript, which is more difficult to learn. I think there is value in revamping the entire macro and Office add-in automation system.
