  1. Agreed. I personally feel that a base install should contain the OS not apps that few people use - they should be store downloads. This is a step in the right direction.

  7. Forza Horizon 4 is now available on Steam with Xbox cross-play

I don't know what the Steam version will do, but it goes on sale for 50% off on the MS Store fairly often. The game still gets updates and new content too. It's not new, but it's not old. It’s not “old” but it’s old enough that the listed price is laughable.

  10. Adobe Photoshop now runs natively on Apple M1 Macs

“Adobe says that its internal tests show a roughly 50% increase in performance in various tasks in Photoshop compared to previous generations of the same devices.” So it's 50% faster than the emulated version? I'd hope so... It will be noticeably faster for the 1-2K people who use this on an M1 machine. The real question is, how does it compare to a similarly spec'd x86 machine - with a current gen CPU?

  14. Adobe Photoshop now runs natively on Apple M1 Macs

Precisely. We're not falling for the usual Apple weasel words marketing spin on this. They want professionals to take this product line as something more than a prosumer iPad, they'd better be benchmarking apples to apples here. "Adobe says that its internal tests show a roughly 50%..." Not that Apple isn't misleading with some of their marketing, but let's at least hold the right party responsible here...

“Adobe says that its internal tests show a roughly 50% increase in performance in various tasks in Photoshop compared to previous generations of the same devices.” Not fast enough. You won’t notice a difference. Buy an Intel Mac instead.

  20. Great game. I can just drive around for hours at a time. It's pretty easy to get good cars that you want, which allows you to focus on enjoying them rather than getting them and getting bored afterwards. They also handle dailies well and give you a 3 day buffer to do simple things.

It took a pandemic for everyone to start taking PC webcams seriously. Still, decent quality webcams remain standalone devices. They are not making it into expensive $2000-$3000 laptops.

That is why I am saddened to see Paint 3D being abandoned. Where do you see that it's being abandoned? They're simply not including it in clean installations anymore.

  30. TrendForce warns of SSD price hikes later this year

Pictures don't exactly require speedy drives to access, get an external hdd and save yourself some bucker on a larger capacity Yeah, and they prove to be invaluable the first time you drop them and lose all the precious data because they're mechanical. But any data of high importance you will have a bare minimum of two copies on two different devices (this tends to be a minimum and is a nice balance of data security and convenience/easy of use to even though one could opt for online storage or DVD media etc in addition to the hard drive backup stuff). so dropping a HDD should not be of a serious concern for losing data and it's more efficient to store data like pictures/videos and the like on a regular hard drive since SSD's are mostly good for stuff you need to start up/load quickly. so depending on ones $ situation, a person could buy a couple of 2TB HDD's or 4TB HDD's etc to store their higher importance data on. personally... while it's possible SSD could be more reliable in general than a HDD, I tend to trust a regular hard drives more since the data stored on it is likely less sensitive to being lost as I suspect if a SSD fails it could be immediate, where as if a HDD fails, I would imagine your more likely to get warning signs first etc and, like I was saying, any data of higher importance should have a bare minimum of two different copies of that data on two different devices (i.e. so that data is on one hard drive, and that same data on another hard drive).

  34. Hello, The amount of Linux-specific malware out there is quite small, but it's not zero. Here's an interview with a friend who hunts Linux-based malware for living: https://www.welivesecurity.com/2020/02/21/up-close-and-personal-with-linux-malware/. Most recently, he came across this, which targeted some of the largest Linux installations in the world. It does not hurt to be conscientious about such threats and check for them, even in the probability of your running across them is low. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky

  38. Here's what's new for Windows 8.1 and 7 this Patch Tuesday

Regrettable that individual consumers can't purchase continuing updates for WIndows-7. For them, Windows-7 was/is so much more applicable for their needs and requirements--not to mention the its enhanced reliability. While WIndows-10, after several years, is getting more stable and reliable--it is still too "fragile" for those without an in-house IT function.

  39. Unusual network pop up

Open process explorer https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/process-explorer Then click on the bullseye icon (The one to the right of the binoculars) Then drag it over that window and it should tell you the executable in question. Once you know the name of the program then you can use a program such as autoruns to find it's startup entry in the system. It could also be setup as a task. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/autoruns Once you find the executable look at the date of the file and see when it arrived on your system. Then possibly do a system restore back about a month.

Equity recognizes that each person has different circumstances and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome. http://hudgeandgudge.com/comic...ality-vs-equity-vs-reality/

  49. IBM study: Gender equity isn't a top priority for business

It's not a priority because most companies aren't discriminatory against gender or race... You can't force people to take jobs, and the issue is reversed when you do. It's about hiring the best candidate, and it's not the company's fault when the applicant pool isn't an equal split of diversity. As an engineer, I see this first hand. When I have people to hire, the applicants are 90% men and 75% of those are white. Nothing I can do about it, and of course everybody gets a fair chance.
