  2. Microsoft Store for Business and Education may be killed off soon

There's other ways to push specific apps to your education or enterprise devices, so having specific store front ends just for those two seems unnecessary. They could just update the main store and make it better overall.

  3. Is 5ghz wi-fi just as good as a wired internet connection?

First, it's 5 GHz wifi, please don't call it 5G wifi. Because 5G is a different thing. Wired is always better, faster, more reliable. But that being said, in wifi, the PHY speed and signal strength are two factors that determine how good or bad it is. Do a speed test on both wired and 5 GHz wireless if your client PHY speed is decent - it may be good enough for your internet speed requirements - may offer the same speed via wired too. Not for LAN/WLAN transfers where wired is miles ahead. Read this long but very interesting page to learn more about Wifi: https://www.duckware.com/tech/wifi-in-the-us.html

  6. Funny you bring up GamersNexus... HardwareUnboxed just came out with a video on this and explained what they are talking about, though. Given the SAME CPU across 4 GPUs, the AMD cards performed better on the lower-end CPUs at lower resolutions: (side note, 1080p is still the most prevalent resolution in the Survey.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLEIJhunaW8

  11. Disagree. As an organisation we're not going to allow our users to see or download non-business related apps like Candy Crush, Angry Birds, Asphalt, etc. It's just not sensible and appropriate for a work environment. However as Microsoft has chosen to put things like language packs in the store, as well as some apps that we're perfectly fine with, such as To-do, whiteboard, etc, then we need a way of allowing users and local IT teams to install these apps. Microsoft Store for Business gave us this capability and it works well. We curate the apps that are allowed into categories, and users can choose to install them. If we have to block access to the store entirely, which will be the case if Microsoft shut down Store for Business, then that will also mean that inbox apps such as calculator, mail and calendar, etc will stop being updated, which is also undesirable. Valid points but I think instead of having 3 different store front ends, having one store that shows specific things depending on the account you sign in with (consume, edu, business), would be the better way to do it, no? You could then just limit the ability to login with a consumer account via group policy for example. Not a bad idea. But as is typical with Microsoft the removal of one thing will come well in advance of whatever is destined to replace it. Also to be fair, it's not really an entirely new front end per se right now. It's the same store, the same apps, the same update mechanism, just displayed on a different tab. The group policy then just hides the "public tabs". This works well, and isn't too dissimilar to your suggestion. And thus, "Also starting April 14, 2021, you must sign in with your Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) account before you browse Microsoft Store for Business and Education." The account used to sign-in will dictate your store UX. This should have been in place long ago, but the behind-the-scenes adjustments only happen incrementally so it's only now time to transition the front-end behaviors.

  15. Is 5ghz wi-fi just as good as a wired internet connection?

Says who? Have you actually tested that? While yes 5ghz wifi can do 155mbps real world - it still depends on the actual connection rate, the interface that might be present. Just because your PC support say 802.11n at 5ghz doesn't actually mean it can do 155mbps real world. Is your router AC and your client AC? What is the actual router? What is the actual wifi card in the PC? 1 stream of 802.11n via 5ghz for example using 40mhz channels has a PHY of only 150mbps - real world your going to be more like 75mbps - rough guesstimate for wifi speeds is to take the actual phy your connected at and /2 it.. You can expect to see 50 to 60% of the connection rate or PHY.. And just because your receive is at PHY X, your transmit might be way lower than that.. So while you might get 75mbps real world down, maybe your upload is only like 10 or something.. Even if your AC - if your only talking 1 stream - which many wifi cards might only be.. A common connection rate of 1 stream with 40mhz channels is only 200.. So your still below your 155 real world speed you think you might get. And again rx is different than tx when it comes to phy.. I would highly suggest you actually test before you think your going to see 155 in real world speeds.. As others have mentioned - almost ALWAYS a wire is better.. Now with the new wifi 6 (ax) depending - sure you could get some great speeds, even above gig ethernet. But its not going to be as stable, it will fluctuate and latency will be higher. How many other devices will you have on the wifi network, how many other wifi networks around you.. All can have effect on the overall performance. And guess what 2.5, and 5gbps is quite easy to do with wire now as well.. Or even 10ge.. Cost is coming down for sure in the 2.5 gbps switches - there are a few on the market now for $100 price point.. Wifi is best for mobile devices.. And yeah sure any even some what modern equipment should be able to get good speeds - yes above 155 real world for sure.. I see 400mbps real world no problem with wifi.. On the devices that support multiple stream connections and AC.. If you want to move your PC.. and its hard to run a wire - then by all means do that if that is what you want. But don't be sure your going to see speed XYZ via wifi just because its using 5ghz.. Is it N, is it AC is it AX? How many streams can the router do, how many streams can the card do? If your AC even with 1 you should be ok.. If you can do 80mhz channels.. But if your in a high noise area? Maybe not? This is capable of 433 mbps PHY connection.. So you should be able to see your 155 with such a connection. You sure do not need to move your modem to connect a wire.. You have no way to run a wire along the edges of the walls. Or better yet actually run wire in the walls. Do you have coax connections in the different rooms? If so you could leverage a moca setup and get gig wired speeds without much trouble.. If you have attic or basement or crawl space - running ethernet is not that hard.. A couple of hours even with no experience should be possible.. Cable is cheap.. The adapters to make it look nice on the wall are cheap.. its easy enough to cut some holes in drywall and put in a nice plate for a jack.. They even sell some where you could just use a pre done cable of enough length.. You can get a 100ft run of cat 5e for a few bucks.. Unless the device is actually mobile - if its possible to run a wire, it is almost always the better choice. Device you put a wire also don't use up your wifi - so leaves more bandwidth for your actual mobile devices.. Since wifi is a shared medium.. All that being said - you for sure can do real world 155mbps over wifi.. So I would just temp move your PC to where you want to move it and test it.. If you see the speeds over wifi your happy with.. Then your good and just use wifi.. Common speeds for wifi these days in in the 200 mbps range for sure.. If your wifi card is recent, and your router is recent.. This is 2 stream with 40mhz channels using AC.. Which is PHY of 400mbps..

  18. Future Bethesda games will be exclusive to platforms with Xbox Game Pass

After the failure of PS Vita? I think Microsoft is happy they missed out on that one. Even Nintendo merged their handheld and console into one unit. As for PC gaming, this now has more priority over at Bethesda. They can focus on releasing on Xbox and PC whereas previously they also had to consider PS before launch. I strongly believe Vita would have been successful if it used SD cards

  23. CPU bottlenecking becomes less of an issue as the resolution goes up, not the other way around, because the processing load shifts towards the GPU. It'd still be a bottleneck, but if it achieves acceptable frame rates at lower resolutions, then there's a good chance it could manage at higher res too.

If they follow the SN pattern then BN1 would do load & pressure tests then a static fire like SN3/4, then a successor BN would do the first flight. Early BNs will have 4 gimballed engines, with a full center cluster being 8. Outer ring = 20 fixed RMax engines (high thrust, no gimal).

  33. I mean, yes. This is how one tests CPU's against one another. Throw in a powerful, modern GPU and use anything from high to low end CPU's and measure their speed (obv. ensuring all other system component variables are as similar as possible). Then again, most custom builders should already know they shouldn't be buying a $1000+ high-end GPU paired with a cheaper lower-end CPU. If you want more information on how CPU testing is done, reference GamersNexus.

  37. Onedrive next please! OneDrive is integral to assimilating users into the Microsoft ecosystem, it is not going anywhere. It has to be updated anyway, so clearly it doesn’t need to be there since we all know MS doesn’t know what a differential update is. All they are doing is downloading a new version. So again, there is no point in including it. Especially since it’s on the store, can be downloaded from the site, and is included with Microsoft 365. Yeah, while we are at it, lets remove the Mail and Calendar apps too, and Maps, and Alarms and Clock, pfft, who uses that. Camera? I've got my phone for that. Photos? No thanks I'll roll my own. Popular apps Netflix, Spotify and Candy Crush on my PC? How dare you! And the stuff nobody ever opens, like Tips, Get Help and whatnot. Also pretty much everything under Windows Accessories and Windows Administrative tools, who uses that? Admins know what they need. We've got downloadable tools like Power Toys that gives us features when we actually need it. We will download the tools or have a handy pen drive with this stuff wherever we go. People shouldn't touch Regedit unless they know what they are doing, why bother having it accessible? Why ever defrag in the age of SSDs? Ease of Access tools? Why bother with that? Microsoft sells the Xbox Adaptive Controller separately, why can't they just make a separate SKU for folks who need it? Windows Explorer is POS. Microsoft Edge bundling is anti-competitive... ... ... ...Wait a second, why are there any apps and programs on my PC when I set it up? Just give me PowerShell and I will take it from there. Wow, miss the point much? Nah, absurd comments need absurd replies. Nothing is absurd about leaving software included in other installers or can be downloaded, out of the base OS. The version included just becomes outdated and replaced anyway. consumer windows isn't for you, it's for your average person. onedrive is a core part of windows now. If you're uninstalling it like Wingliston claims then you're using your computer wrong. it's not 2000 anymore. stop being inefficient. Fun fact, Enterprise also includes OneDrive. As for the rest, you are coming to conclusions on a false assumption.

  41. Onedrive next please! OneDrive? Hopefully not lol. Why? Is downloading hard? is uninstalling hard? Nope. But if people are going to whine about little crap like Paint 3D, (and they have in the past), we might as well mention that OneDrive doesn’t need to be there either. But hey, if you like the whole opt-out (which is basically what uninstalling is doing, opting out of bloat) approach, more power to ya. On the other hand, Microsoft actually knows how many people use each app and can make decisions based on that. So seriously, why are we even talking about this? And they would get the same numbers from people DOWNLOADING it. It has to be updated once its used anyway, so why add something bound to become deprecated, if it can merely be downloaded? I imagine the people using Dropbox might have very little use for OneDrive. Or they might not. Either way, its downloadable just like all the store stuff they add. Make a placeholder if needed and people can install it that way. If we are going to debloat, lets do it right. We are talking about it because someone mentioned removing it. I'm sure you can fill out the rest by reading the comments. My point was, they already know this crap. Random internet comments aren't going to make them change directions. Well I’m also not discussing it with “them”.

  42. Onedrive next please! 😂 nope yep. It can be downloaded. it's not going anywhere. you guys need to stop QQing about a few MB's. Its better they add this to the MS Store or 365 installer. Most people don't want or need OneDrive. Every Windows 10 device I setup for customers want it gone. It places itself in File Explorer, startup, runs in system tray, recreates itself on each user profile, sfc adds it back to the start menu... One less trash to remove would be nice.

If you have a VAT number (which most businesses have), you get back all VAT paid. It doesn't matter if it's 5%, 50% or 90%. The VAT is a tax on the consumer not on businesses.

  48. IBM study: Gender equity isn't a top priority for business

The issue is, what is "best". You get handed a stack of resume and most people's would be similar, there has been numerous studies on unconscious bias, groups were shown exact application but with photo or name included versus excluded, the ones with non-Anglo names or clearly women are viewed more negatively. Rarely does a resume stand out. There is also another story on the FBI (or CIA) regarding 911. No one understood the symbolism behind Osama Bin Laden making a video in a cave, most thought it was some lunatic. He was lunatic alright, but they didn't take him seriously because he is in a cave, when, and I paraphrase greatly, he was invoking images/metaphors the prophet and that his calls for holy war is for real. Most of the people hired by FBI are highly educated, but they are predominantly white male with certain backgrounds, and they lean towards them because the hirers are often of the same demographic; by hiring more people of same demographic as yourself, you provide positive feedback to yourself. The "best" is merely a perspective on what is the best
