  2. Microsoft is in talks to acquire Discord for more than $10 Billion

I think that MS have shown themselves to be good stewards and Linked In and Minecraft are good examples. I expect you were not serious. I think the old days where I lost respect for MS are over.

  10. RIP, it's going to end up like Mixer, dead. I feel it might lead to a lot of server deletions, too. Everyone is probably going to flock to Guilded now.

Agreed. I've switched to Guilded now. More features that are not locked behind a paywall.

  12. I can't imagine what use cases this feature could have. A presentation and a word document are two different animals. If I were Microsoft, I'd have spent my time on better things, like: - Markdown support to OneNote and Word - SVG support to Excel and PowerPoint - Refreshing the HTML export feature - Improving that catastrophic "Read Aloud" feature, which mispronounces "resumes" like "resumés".

  13. Microsoft is in talks to acquire Discord for more than $10 Billion

What was the last time you saw a person on crack spending $10 billion? Samsungs consideration of $10 billion on a chipmaking plant in texas... Apple in 2013 spending $10 billion on "innovation"... Want any more or are we done for today with the internet? More please... and the evidence that any of these had anything to do with crack.

  15. OnePlus announces the OnePlus 9 series with Hasselblad cameras

Nope...OnePlus isn't a "premium phone at a good price" anymore. Now they are a pretty good phone at a "flagship" price. They use to be called flagship killer, but now their prices are right up there in the flagship range. On purpose, IMO

LOL so much fuss over a name? Fanboys are so cute... I don't nknow if it's worth to reply but: - Sony one is Network (with capital N) - MS ones is network, and it's a generic term

  17. Xbox Live is changing names to "Xbox network"

I kinda get it, Xbox Live was there to delineate online stuff from offline stuff back in the day. It's basically all online stuff now; the fuzzy line has fully dissolved. It's also as if McDonalds were dropping the Quarter Pounder name because they wanted to sell another burger with a quarter pound of beef. Sure, it's not the greatest name in the first place, but there's something of a wee bit of name recognition and momentum behind it.

  18. Microsoft are pro-privacy in general. What? They have telemetry in everything that cannot be turned off. There's no end to end encryption in ANY of it either. How is that pro privacy? lol Get news about MS from other sources that Neowin. If we're talking about Windows, yeah there's no 'off switch. But you can view all the telemetry they send. You'd be hard-pressed to not find any telemetry systems on any consumer commercialised app, website or operating system. Also, what do you mean by no end to end encryption? Are you referring to the Microsoft telemetry or Discord chats?

  24. You can still play the games you have installed, and the article doesn't address whether or not a person can re-download a previous purchased game on the device or a newly acquired one. It is only saying purchases will no longer be allowed. Downloadable games on the original Xbox for instance was realistically only available for less than about 7 years as that was completely shutdown in 2010. Games for Windows Live games were only available for about 7 years, these users really got the shaft. In the meantime, Microsoft opened yet another silly store i.e. Microsoft Store (renamed from Windows Store). Valve continues to be the best supported digital store long-term. Also, if one has a Xbox 360 and they attempt to purchase many Microsoft games via the Store, many are no longer allowed i.e. Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 3, Halo 4, etc. It is my understanding that if you already purchased these that you can re-download them. I am also guessing that one could in theory use the PS backup tool to restore games say to the PS Vita, but I have never attempted this.

  25. Work Monitors for Home Office

I'm satisfied with my purchase. It's got exactly what I needed. The screen real estate, and not having to deal with Mac spaces go haywire like they do with 2+ external monitors. Also nice benefit is that I can charge my MacBook Pro directly from the monitor. So it's a clean set up all around. Still think it was a little overpriced, but at the end of the day it's been a great tool for every day work.

Kind of want them to sell out to some shady company so everyone can jump ship to something else. The application is bloated trash.

How is that pro privacy? lol Get news about MS from other sources that Neowin. This is hilarious, someone needs to go and open the teams electron package up. There's about 10 different telemetry options in the configuration... Guess what happens if you turn them off by adjusting the file? They turn themselves back on again. Guess what happens if you make the file read only? Teams will not open. MS invade the crap out of anyone using their services and/or software Non-issue. The privacy options in that file are set from elsewhere and so it's not surprising that the file gets overwritten or if you make it read only that it causes problems. 37. Slightly conflicted but it could be interesting. Discord is pretty anti privacy so its right up MS' alley so its not like theyll make it worse on that front. They'll probably add some cool stuff but hopefully not screw over other platforms that arent theirs.

  38. Samsung introduces new monitor lineup with up to 4K resolution

I mean, if you turn off a monitor you expect it to turn off its external ports too. You might be better off with a separate hub or dock, but what the monitor does is logical. That works when it's the primary monitor used with desktop PCs. For laptops where an external monitor is occasionally used but a built-in hub is desired, monitor makers can have a setting in it to control whether the hub is also turned off, or two separate power buttons to control the hub and the display. No, I get that, but it’s an odd use-case where a separate dock or hub is the more appropriate device anyway. Turning a monitor off should be the same as any other peripheral, it should power down.

  49. Windows freezes randomly

I used to have a Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard and if I put the unifier in the back of my PC the keyboard or mouse would lag like crazy, i ended up getting a USB extension cord for the backport and then taped the adapter to the back of my screen, no problems after that. I always used an old fashioned USB2 (blue) port for that because it did not require USB3.x
