  1. Isn't the phrase "hate speech" massively open to personal interpretation*, and as such "finding hate speech" can also be a commentary upon the user as much as the site? * Yes there are some obvious things that clearly define hate speech, but it's also opinion based.

  5. I mean, we had to implement timeclocks with fingerprints mostly because people were taking long lunches or doing personal errands throughout the day and having people clock in and out for them. I hated implementing the systems, just as I'm sure they hated using it, but they wouldn't have had to do that if it wasn't for abuse of the systems to begin with.

Ah, the rich pickings of Oranmore, a town of 5,000 residents. Good idea in principle but still smells like a a marketing ploy rather than a viable use of technology, at least for the moment.

I'll wait for product reviews and testing before commenting too much on the quality of NZXT products, but their recent issues with the H1 riser debacle, Z series AIO pumps, and their lack of customer focus don't give me high hopes for a quality engineered B550 offering.

  21. Windows 10 is getting all-new icons in the File Explorer

They need to push out the icon releases independently, allowing for faster releases because there will be minimal to no testing needed. This would also allow them to pump out multiple icon pack releases to allow more user choice. Tying limited icon updates to a Windows feature release causes them to lose priority and has been the problem with the mess that is multiple icon styles existing, even from Windows 3.1.

  23. There are certainly reasons for some sites to enable HTTPS, and most likely those sites already have. Google has no business demanding every site confirm to their standards though. If I want to put up a special interest site somewhere, google has no right to interfere in how I want it presented, or to force me to use certificates to "make it secure". We can tell you didn’t read the article.

  27. Samsung builds industry's first 512GB DDR5 memory module

The original news release by Samsung: "Delivering more than twice the performance of DDR4 at up to 7,200 megabits per second (Mbps), the new DDR5 will be capable of..." I think that's not correctly worded. It should be mega-transfers per second (MT/s), as in Samsung claims that they will have chips at speed ratings up to DDR5-7200. 1 transfer being 64 bits, that gives 57,600 MB/s per module, which in JEDEC terms would be PC5-57600. Too bad Neowin, Engadget and possibly others didn't bother correcting/clarifying.

Making these "F2P" games an exception to the paywall rule just proves what a cash grab it is to begin with. These games are no different in terms of infrastructure than any other multiplayer game piped through Xbox Live... what makes the Microsoft cut on these micro-transaction rich cesspools any different than the cut from my full $60 game purchase?

I hated implementing the systems, just as I'm sure they hated using it, but they wouldn't have had to do that if it wasn't for abuse of the systems to begin with. We had this too at my work (DHL), people would be late all the time so they would phone others to punch them in on time while they were running late. Now we have biometrics but still no good as peoples fingers might not scan properly so most are setup with employee ID.

This is probably ok, but... This is also one of the best ways to jam malware into computers. People might want to avoid installing something like an OS from any location that is not officially Microsoft. There is always one guy like you... Except this pulls straight from Microsoft's servers.

  39. I'm a bit torn as to where I stand on this. My dad started his career driving HGVs across Europe, and a tachograph monitored his driving, resting and so on. In one way, I see this as an evolution. However, the tachograph doesn't take your biometric data. The cameras - well lets be honest, we have all had crap delivery experiences and I can see how some may feel that monitoring the delivery agents will help that situation - and when in the office at my job I can be seen at all times - but in a small place like a van it's a bit more invasive. Checking how tired or safe their drivers are, could be argued as being in their best interests, but again I can see how it also becomes an uncomfortable option. And the biometrics can again be argued as being a very valid piece of tech - you have to be you to drive the vehicle and so on. I dunno - individually I've no major issue, but tracking everything quite so invasively is a situation that I can accept feels a bit much.

  41. Yeah, I have no idea how anyone is using Safari. They are fairly far behind on any measurement of standards compliance...HTML5 Test, Can I use, and now this. Well on iOS you are forced to use that garbage browser, and it can't be updated independently of the OS. Horrible design, horrible browser I hate Safari just like the next person, however I don't think you're forced to use it. I use Edge on my iPhone SE quite happily, makes it much easier! Sadly I still need to use IE on my work computer for a few things, but I seem to be one of the few in the office with Chromium Edge, which again is my default. I am so keen for those final websites to be updated to be usable with a browser made in the past decade. NO one is talking about using it, it's about development. We as a developer have to do lot of extra work just to support their system. Just as example safari on phone supports HTML5 date input, they do not support that on MacOS (They have different standards for even their own two systems), and that's just needle in haystack.

Same with all iOS web browsers, it is against apple app store T&C to have a web browser on iOS that does NOT use the in-built safari webview

  45. Microsoft are pro-privacy in general. What? They have telemetry in everything that cannot be turned off. There's no end to end encryption in ANY of it either. How is that pro privacy? lol Get news about MS from other sources that Neowin. This is hilarious, someone needs to go and open the teams electron package up. There's about 10 different telemetry options in the configuration... Guess what happens if you turn them off by adjusting the file? They turn themselves back on again. Guess what happens if you make the file read only? Teams will not open. MS invade the crap out of anyone using their services and/or software

  50. Solar Power finally kicked off today.

So being start of day 94 of solar thought I would update this - even if nobody looking.. 3 billing cycles have have completed.. You can see the huge drop in what paying comed.. $16 per month to comed, this is just the cost of having a connection.. There has been no cost for electric used, since have produced more than used.. Currently I have 474 kwh rolled over.. So going into 2 biggest months for me jul and aug.. Have reserve even if can not produce what I consume next couple of months... If these next few days in June can stay sunny on track to hit 1Mwh for the month.. That is pretty slick if you ask me Need to avg 31 kwh per day for the next 6 days, for june sofar running at 33.9 kwh avg per day.. Current calculations work out to $336 savings from last year total cost.. While its not a huge amount, sofar leasing seems like a viable option to me for anyone wanting save a few bucks..
