  1. Because throwing a router at someone's feet doesn't have the same feeling as a grenade. The feeling of beating a coworker to death with a Dell PowerEdge Server as they walk around the corner, using a Cat6 patch cord to choke someone out, ramming a tone probe into the boss's eye socket ... Uh, I might have some office anger issues .. LOL

  3. How to know if your iphone is using wpa3 or wpa2

So unifi finally released support for WPA3 via controller 6.1.51 and firmware 5.43+ on many of their APs So I was playing with that yesterday. And sure set a ssid to only be wpa3, and phone (iphone XR running 14.4) connected.. So yeah it works - but was wondering how do you know your using wpa3 on a ssid that is set for wpa2/wpa3 because some devices on that network don't yet support wpa3.. Iot devices for sure many do not support such new features, or for that matter even 5ghz for wifi. be it n or ac.. The controller doesn't have a way to show if a device is using wpa2 or wpa3.. At least not yet. So you really have to do it on the client device. Well apple in their infinite wisdom clearly don't see the point of their users actually seeing any decent info about the connection Unless you install the developers wifi profile for debugging.. Why and F is this just not part of a stand features I have no idea. You can find it here https://developer.apple.com/bug-reporting/profiles-and-logs/ You have to agree to the developers agreement after you sign in with your apple id. You can then install the profile, and now under your wifi your connected to there will be a diagnostic menu.. This provides lots of good info.. Actual channel your connected to, the VHT. Actual signal strength.. If your wpa2 or wpa3.. Actual BSSID which can be useful when you have more than 1 AP.. I wish they also would show you actual PHY (connection rate) for both tx and rx.. But hey it got the info I was looking for specifically.. But you can get the connection rate from the controller if your running unifi stuff. Hope this helps someone..

  8. So, not only can they be in control of what you say online, but, now, if you happen to say something that they don't like, they can not only ban you off of facebook, then can also take away your ability to get online as well. Big brother at its best.

  9. They have only improved GitHub, Skype, LinkedIn They improved Skype in such a way that none of my friends are using it anymore because it just doesn't work. And let's not mention the abomination Skype for Business that my company ditched in favor of good old emails. Here's a fun to try out: type in Google "why is Skype" or "why is ms teams" and let it autocomplete +1 Skype used to be good, and I mean it was fine for a bit after the MS Aquisition, but its just slowly gone downhill and can't stand using it anymore, everyone I had/have on it have moved to different platforms now.

  10. OPPO Find X3 Pro review: Knocked out of the park

€ 1,149 is a lot of money for a phone, no matter how good it is, that is about £980, I would never pay that for a phone. I just got a Oppo phone, but the other end of the scale, a A57, cost £139, down from just under £200. To be honest if it was not for the fact my Huawei p10 lite is playing up , I would never have bothered as i do not like the look of phones now. For the price the a57 is fine, faster than the p10lite and the camera seems ok, again for the price. But the phone is so large, and I am not fond of the multiple lenses on the back or the pinhole in the front. i also don't like the fingerprint scanner being on the side, makes it difficult for people that are left handed. But for the price it will do, if I can get another phone at some point that resembles the p10lite I will. The build of this Oppo is fine, it is plastic, but it is cheap.

  11. OPPO Find X3 Pro review: Knocked out of the park

Oppo have only guaranteed two years of security updates for these phones here in Australia. Completly unacceptable in my view given Pixel receive three years and many Samsung phones receive four years. These phones are not cheap and frankly two years of support is an absolute insult.

  12. Can’t boot my new SSD.

Hello, First things first. Make sure you have the latest BIOS firmware installed for your ECS Group MCP61M-M3 v1.0A motherboard, which can be downloaded from ECS' web site at https://www.ecsusa.com/ECSWebSite/Product/Product_DOWNLOAD/HE/Motherboard/MCP61M-M3 -LL-V1-DO-0A-RR-/Socket AM3-LL-AMD-RR-. After installing that, reset all the BIOS options to their defaults, per page 25 of your motherboard's manual, available for download on the same page. Make sure the BIOS is set to AHCI mode, per the screen shots starting on page 62. Next, check with the manufacturer of the new SSD you purchased. Although it may be new, it may also have older firmware as well. Update that according to the manufacturer's instructions. Lastly, download the latest chipset device drivers for your motherboard from Nvidia's web site at https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/14875/en-us. These are for Windows 7 since they were last updated twelve years ago in 2009, but it is possible they will work on newer versions of Windows. Have unzipped and copied to a CD-R, DVD±RW or USB flash drive in case you are prompted for them during installation. To simplify things and prevent installation of the operating system to the wrong drive, I would suggest disconnecting all drives except the 2.5" SATA SSD to which you are installing Windows before turning the computer. The CD/DVD drive can remain connected, though. Once installation of the operating system is finished and the computer is powered down, you can once again plug in any other drives to the computer. 16. Can’t boot my new SSD.

If Windows boots fine with the harddisk and not the SSD then maybe the BIOS is not starting the SSD? You need to try and see in the BIOS if you can select the SSD as the boot drive. Also to be very clear, you cannot boot Windows from an external drive: https://www.quora.com/Can-you-run-Windows-10-on-a-laptop-from-an-external-SDD-The-idea-is-to-make-the-external-SSD-the-primary-drive So if you installed on your friends PC and then cloned to an external SSD, that will not work, it needs to be a fixed SSD connected to an internal SATA port on the motherboard.

  18. And that wouldn't use up your ssd anyway.. You understand modern SSDs can have like 100TB written to them.. Do the math yourself on how much data you would have to write a DAY to use up 100TB in 10 years even.. If I look at the SSD on my system - with paging file on it.. Looking at my C drive ssd, where the page file is, etc. And where I download everything and move files back and forth from my nas after I work on them.. Which are HUGE media files.. And I move them back and forth all the time.. I show with my 3 year old samsung 860 EVO 250GB ssd.. has 59TB written.. Which has a life of 150TBW, so I am like a bit over its 1/3 through its life expectancy.. Do I think I will have this drive being used as my main OS driver for another 6 years.. I don't think so its warranty is only 5 years anyway.. This PC is getting pretty long in the tooth to be honest.. And have been thinking of replacing it - prob within the next year for sure.. My older 128GB 850 Pro, which also has a 150TBW life, or 10 years which comes first is like 5.5 years old and been on the whole time and is only at 38.4TB - and while its not my OS drive any longer - it use to be for a couple of years. I move a lot data on and off it as well.. Where I do my conversions, etc.. Not even close to its TBW.. Being worried about such things is pretty pointless these days.. Just figure you will get 5/10 years out it.. I wouldn't worry about the small amount of data your using, if your worried about writing some data to your drive - your doing it wrong What is the size of this SSD.. The bigger ones have much larger TBW.. The 850 pro's 512/1TB have 300TBW or 10 year warranty.. If you could get close to writing 300TB to it in 10 years I would be really impressed hehehe

  21. What a fanboy. When its apple you'd be up in arms over it. There's no excuse for selling last gen hardware at current gen prices, which they'll do. Surface Duo is a good example of that. Feels like MS doesn't care about AMD. First off, I don't care what Apple does, so I'm indifferent towards them. Second, the moment you decided to label me as a fanboy means I can't take anything you say serious at this point. You guys seem to think hardware is somehow designed, tested, manufactured and shipped at the drop of a hat. As far as prices go, don't buy it, it's really that simple. I don't know how MS feels about AMD, they used to be intel only, the fact they're going to offer more AMD models now than ever before paints a different picture to me. Ah yes, microsoft testing hardware... Maybe if they did that they wouldn't have had faulty displays, faulty batteries, etc. https://www.theverge.com/circu...freezing-shutdowns-problems" rel="external nofollow">https://www.theverge.com/circu...freezing-shutdowns-problems 25% failure rate after 2 years is batshit crazy, completely unacceptable. Acer hardware is better tested than microsoft's surface. Ah, good, a report from back in 2017. Nice way to try and make your point I guess. Here's one from them a year later. https://www.consumerreports.or...commends-microsoft-surface/ Hey, if you don't want it don't buy it, get that Acer or Dell or HP, whatever. Hell I'm typing this reply on an old mid-range HP laptop right now.

  23. Yeah, I think we'll have to wait and see. There is definitely some virtue in being as established as Discord is, and on such a large userbase. My friends and I are trying to switch to Guilded, but there are just so many little things that Discord already has perfected that keep us coming back to it. Now if Microsoft can do what they've done with GitHub and make some of the paid features free, it could pull a lot of people even further in IMO.

  24. Microsoft reportedly plans to close Discord acquisition by next month

The problem is Microsoft had the dominant IM platform (MSN Messenger) certainly in the UK and a lot of Europe anyway, then purchases Skype which I believe did voice / video better at the time. Microsoft has no idea what to do with either of them after that. Meanwhile iOS / Android have come along and smartphones are now mainstream, WhatsApp becomes the MSN Messenger of the mobile world, Facebook adapts well to mobile with a good app. Both WhatsApp and Facebook gain VOIP and Video calling. Meanwhile Microsoft kills off MSN Messenger, loosing most of its userbase who grew up with MSN to Facebook and WhatsApp. In addition Microsoft still can't figure out how to make a good Skype app, either on the desktop or mobile. In some ways the hard work is done with Discord, all Microsoft need to do is not mess it up, which can be done (Github for example). Discord is massively popular for chat in online communities, works great on the desktop, web and mobile. In addition lots of communities are using Discord bots to enhance the community or game that server is focused on.

  25. Honestly unsure about this one... Discord is one of those apps that's great for a while, then isn't. i.e. it gets replaced by the next fad that does something ever so slightly different. This is a lot of money to pay for a service that is subject to the whims of a fairly laissez-faire market.

I like them, but I hope they don't just do like... 20 and then leave everything else default. We've got so many mixed up icons and bullcrap interface attempts, it's just completely appalling how they can't get a team together to revise all these items properly. Not to knock on the MS team if anyone there reads this, but if the goal is to get everything on track again, many thanks. Give the people behind the Control Panel replacements a kick in the ass so they recognize that those settings need to DO everything the old ones did. Why 1 menu gets separated into 3 pages, then just hotlinking to the older interfaces as if that's a resolution is just poor planning. (e.g. renaming your PC having an option that does it, and a "advanced" option that brings up the same old menu we were trying to get to in the first place)

  29. exactly, people who wants android are the mobile users, they give no ###### about joysticks, they just want mobile type games that plays using touch screen nitendo with the switch and their own OS understood it clearly, for a portable console to work, it needs to work like a portable console, for gamers (a gamer isn't necessarily a hardcode gamer;) ), not like a phone/phablet/android/all_in_one device, it'll speak to nobody, therefore it'll flop
