People joking that there's nothing new in this version, isn't that what many of the same people wanted MS to do anyway? Focus on bug fixes and stability instead of trying to jam new stuff constantly each release. If you want to break it down, 21H1 is like SP2 for v2004.7 points -

No one thinks corps ultimately care about you, they care about your money. But at the same time nothing is forced on you. Are they forcing you to take a shot? Not that I've seen. Are they forcing you to eat their junk food? Nope. Are they forcing you to buy their expensive drugs? Nope. It's all up to you. The ###### health of the average American is on them, no one else. The rest of the world has the same brands, same fast food chains, yet they're nowhere near as bad as the US if you look at the numbers. So, again, it's on you and only you. Corps don't have some all powerful control over your life, if you want to blame them for everything, well, go for it. I see it as a waste of my time.2 points -

The plural of sheep, is sheep...I digress, do you know anyone who actually had pretty bad covid? The hospital wards overflowing with patients wasn`t enough to show you how serious this virus was! If it had been left to it`s own devices pretty much every country would have quickly ran out of ICU beds... There are a number of countries and states that never enacted considerable covid restrictions or have since removed restrictions such as lockdowns, mask mandates, curfews, shutting down businesses, etc. (more common now) and didn't have a significant amount Excess Deaths Associated with COVID-19 that other locations with restrictions have claimed to have had. Over the past year there has been enough evidence being published to support the removal of covid restrictions because the risk is far lower than it appears. Perhaps you watch too much fear mongering news and don't read enough into what's actually happening. Perhaps I actually have first hand knowledge of how this virus can affect people, and I`m not just talking about death! You believe whatever you want, just don`t come saying I`ve been swayed by "fearmongering" or not kept abreast of what`s been happening. Seen many x-ray/CT images of people lungs with covid/post covid? It`s not just about stoping people from dying, it`s about long term health as well... People have the choice to take precautions and to reduce exposure and now more people are having the choice to not take those precautions and resections (freedom and rights?). If people want to wear 2 masks, get a vaccine that wears off in x months time and still doesn't prevent people from getting covid and spreading it then that is their choice. I know older and obese people have a higher risk, so they should have the choice to stay home, etc.. I know many people (including myself) who've had covid and recovered and they should also have the same choices to stay home or to go out and not wear a mask, etc. BTW there are many examples of the news "fearmongering" such as saying hospital wards were overflowing with patients when most were filming the dancing nurse videos or were just over exaggerating. Yo, Copernicus, the stories that make the newsbox do not account for the thousands effected by Covid. These are stories broken into 20 second chunks many times presented in a way to get people's attention. They are NOT survey's for gods sake. Please quit being a contrarian and do what your bible teaches and help others. No one wants your germs and you should not want to spread them. As President Biden asked the American people, MASK UP! This will pass and you can get back to making America SUCK. It's crazy to me how triggered people on both sides of this issue are. Go figure, what about just doing your own thing and not trying to push your view on everyone else? As far as why places are opening up and lifting restrictions even though they have high cases of covid-19 infections, it's simple, money. Money is the reason, there's a limit to how long you can stay closed before a counties, towns, states, countries, economy starts reaching the point of no return. Here in my country cases have spiked, the big cities that are also the hot spots have their public hospital ICUs packed in those areas, the government has started using military hospitals and even paying private hospitals to use some of their space. Regardless of all that they're going to lift restrictions to a degree, allow businesses to open with some limits/guidelines even though they're in the red. Simply because they can't take the extra hit to the economy any longer. It's not some funky conspiracy, they're still telling you to be careful, still have a number of restrictions in place, still want you to use masks etc. It's all just down to business. As far as the US goes, and the states that have lifted their lockdowns and mask policy etc, it's a number of factors, none of which actually care if the virus is deadly as they say or not. First off, it's back to the money, they're going to open come hell or highwater because they can't keep losing cash. Second it's down to the mood of their populations and, in the end, voting pull. If state leaders see their base up in arms and at the breaking point, they'll open up, can't lose those votes for the future. Just spin it some way later to make you look good, that dirty side of government at play as always. After that, you've got the vaccine, take that, hell they're already working on a pill to reduce covid symptoms last I read. As far as marking deaths as covid if you die for some other pre-existing condition. That's the right call, IMO. It's simple, if you had some condition before, get covid that is the cause of making your pre-existing condition worse to the point that you end up dead, well, logic dictates that covid was the reason, wouldn't it? Hell you could easily argue that had a person with whatever pre-existing condition NOT gotten infected and covid-19 didn't exist in the first place, they'd have lived longer. Besides, as others have said, how many get it, don't die, but come out of it worse off than before? People that used to be athletic are now unable to be as active as they used to because the virus just messed up their system? It's not, and shouldn't be, just about stopping people from dying.2 points -

What was the last movie you watched? (2021 edition)
+E.Worm Jimmy reacted to +Dick Montage for a topic
It felt to me like an old superhero movie from the 90s (not in the way they wanted it to be visually set in the 80s). What I mean by that is that it felt poorly thought out, terrible script, plot-points outta nowhere, campy scenes, abysmal CGI - just a reason to license a franchise. Everything that WAS wrong with such films and I thought we had moved away from. And this is the problem with the DC movies - they are utterly inconsistent. Dark tone / silly tone / campy tone / heavyweight tone - all over the place; I get that Marvel switch their movie styles up, but there's an overall agenda that seems missing from DC.1 point -

Google Pixel 6 will reportedly use Google's own custom chipset
czoigberg reacted to MS Bob 11 for a topic
No, it's not. Until Samsung sort themselves out and make Exynos a proper rival they'll always be slower and more power hungry Well Exynos 2100 almost matches Snapdragon 888 in CPU performance without the throttling and high temperatures of Qualcomm's flagship. It's a little behind in GPU performance but Samsung's collaboration with AMD to have Radeon graphics in Exynos SoCs should fix that this year. Regardless, if a phone with Exynos 2100 is cheaper than Snapdragon 888, I'd go for that today if I was looking to buy a new phone.1 point -
Google Pixel 6 will reportedly use Google's own custom chipset
MS Bob 11 reacted to samw61 for a topic
Honestly, since when has performance been a concern on your phone? We've reached a point that 90% of your day-to-day apps all perform basically identically. I'd much rather have a phone that lasts 4-5 years with security updates than a phone that's fastest-in-class for about a year, then loses security updates a year after that. If you are paying flagship prices, you are interested in that 10%. I'd rather pay flagship prices for something that over the life of the product costs me less because of it's lifespan, rather than best in class performance for a year before my insecurities about not having the best get the better of me and I spend the same amount again... Personally I'd prefer to pay a tiny amount for a long lasting device, but I'm realistic!!1 point -

Any intelligent reasoning behind this? That's promoting an ideology that is not necessary, is usually done for the wrong reasons, and is potentially harmful to others. I find it obnoxious that some represent themselves like this to feel proud, and to reaffirm their values and their self-concept as a good citizen. It's quite unnecessary but its a way to win social acceptance. Reminds me of those people who volunteer just to post pictures on social media of them helping others, they can't see through their own bs. Covid was literally the number 3 cause of death in the US last year. Stop being ridiculous. That is ridiculous... if you did research during that time you would know that "Died of covid" and "died with covid" were often used interchangeably. There are many cases that hit the news of people who were hit by a car or shot and so on and still considered covid related as the cause of death. That's one of the practices that has changed which significantly decreased the death rate figures from a year ago. The media usually only mentions the covid cases now because the deaths have been so low1 point -
