  2. New Surface Pro 7 ad targets the iPad Pro's heavy keyboard

"....it positions the Surface Pro 7 against the iPad Pro, despite clearly saying that the iPad Pro is just a tablet while the Surface is a full computer." Well, the Surface 7 Pro has a tablet form factor but runs a desktop OS and has extra ports (USB-A and SD cad reader) so makes sense to me.

LG should have spun off their phone division. Merged it with HTC. Then they both could have went out of business together.

The worst Windows update from MS was going from Windows 7 to Windows 8. No one will easily convince me otherwise.

  5. New Surface Pro 7 ad targets the iPad Pro's heavy keyboard

Apple does, for some reason, advertise the iPad Pro as "your next computer". While I don't think the Surface is good competition for it, Apple does seem to be inviting the entire world of personal computer form factors to openly compare themselves to it.

  6. New Surface Pro 7 ad targets the iPad Pro's heavy keyboard

As an owner of a couple of Surface devices and an iPad, I would not buy either anymore. The SP is the jack of both trades (computer and "tablet"), but masters none. It's an alright computer, but it's just a crap tablet (Windows tablet ecosystem is hot garbage). The iPad is a better tablet with a better tablet ecosystem, but has its downsides. To me, neither of these devices appeal to me anymore, and that's because at the end of the day they become media consumption devices.

  9. Windows 10 May 2021 Update is live - here's what to expect

Absolutely, yes. It's a the best Surface on the market in my opinion. With Apple moving over to ARM CPUs I expect there will be a huge push for ARM64 development. Unfortunately, most of it will be for Apple devices, but I think we're going to see more Windows PCs with ARM CPUs, too, especially in portables. Then your opinion is either directed at your own niche user requirements or you're deluded. For virtually everyone the Pro X is an expensive and poorly performing piece of garbage and just because a few Surface fanboys buy this expensive device to watch cat videos on Facebook and then rave about the performance when a $600 Acer or HP machine could provide the same performance makes zero difference. The Pro X is a terrible device for what MS are charging for it! Have you used one? Until you have you really don't know what you're talking about, and you certainly don't speak for "everybody else." All Surface devices are overpriced, especially the Go, which should have the keyboard and pen included for the price they want for it. Nevertheless, that was my first Surface, because it was the cheapest, and it still cost way too much for the specs. Nobody who bought any Surface would be happy with a $600 HP. There's more to selecting those devices than the specs. I'm quite happy with my Surface Pro X in the 8GB/1TB configuration that I purchased for $1000, thank you. Regardless of where you stand on the viability of the Surface Pro X, and regardless of how ignorant you are about its capabilities, this thread is about Windows and the lack of new features in the 20H1 release. I'm sorry you don't care for the feature that I would have personally liked to see in this release, but frankly, it obviously doesn't affect you, so I don't understand why you felt the need to comment. Take your underdeveloped and ineffective trolling somewhere else.

That's fine by me as long as it's stable. I'll take stable over flashy anytime or MS introducing 'features' few people asked for or use.

No pro-create, un-optimized touch apps, lack luster (jittery) pen input, etc... On the other hand you get full Office apps, a web browser, a complete filesystem etc. Both have their advantages, it depends on what you need them for

These new icons are not eye candy - they are quite the opposite, designed to make Windows look more like a corporate tool from "1984" than something that people would actually like to use. Design by Soviet Union 5-Year Planning Factory Office, (c) 1984. (Making the People Happy Through Increased Production Numbers for the Mother Land!)

Yes the smartphone sector is incredibly competitive but LG made some really boneheaded design decisions/gimmicks in their phones over the years (throwing away features that were good, not adding what should've been added ages ago, charging same prices as Samsung despite not being in the same position) + very poor software/aftersales support otherwise they would have survived.

In " the good old days" trying out a new version on Windows was actually interesting as the product did change & introduce new features now it's a task simply running Windows update and wondering whether it will run the entire process without falling over

Why don't they just clearly market and define two packaged options: Regular release desktop & stable long term desktop. The problem with Microsoft since Satya took over: scrap the QA department and make consumers the QA department.

People joking that there's nothing new in this version, isn't that what many of the same people wanted MS to do anyway? Focus on bug fixes and stability instead of trying to jam new stuff constantly each release. If you want to break it down, 21H1 is like SP2 for v2004.

In reviewing that decision, we assume, for argument’s sake, that the material was copyrightable. But we hold that the copying here at issue nonetheless constituted a fair use. Hence, Google’s copying did not violate the copyright law 😵

  25. U.S. Supreme Court sides with Google in Java dispute

This was an interesting case and I think Google argued it in a way that proved successful for them: Oracle complained that not only had Google copied the API, but that Google had also literally copied code to make some of the APIs work. That second portion seems to have been forgotten in all of the rulings because that seemed pretty open-shut (same variable names and odd formatting structure). That said, I am glad that an API cannot be copyrighted in order to enable other disruptive technology to easily take its place.

Godzilla Vs Kong - 2/10 - I hated all the human drama, and side quests. The monster fight was stupid, because of course Kong would #getrekt. Good CGI. Crap movie. Snyder Cut (Justice League) - 8/10 - Loved every minute of it. Cyborg actually matters. Awesome movie. Birdman - 10/10 - One of the best movies I've ever seen. Maybe even the best.

The Pro X is an expensive piece of garbage and your emotional response is utterly meaningless to the proven facts of the matter. Your last paragraph shows me how emotionally invested and triggered you are in to this disappointing device. Try to take your emotion out of this. I'm still waiting for you to say anything meaningful concerning the topic at hand instead of trying to trash a piece of hardware you have no real world experience using. It's cute that you think the last paragraph was the emotional one.

As I understand it LG attempted to sell the brand but no one was biting. I'm not sure of the details but either LG were asking too much or prospective buyers simply didn't see value in the brand. Dunno who would be interested. In the Android side Samsung has such massive dominance that there isn’t any way a competitor could slip in. Google, one plus, etc, are all peanuts compared to Samsung.

It's not about eye candy for the sake of eye candy. Icons have a very important role, as does good UI design. Without it, accessing and navigating is less intuitive and in that sense can actually slow down the use of the computer. Having said that, it's obviously not one or the other, as much as comment sections would have you believe. Security and stability is obviously important too, and they are focusing on that alongside a UI update.

I don't know, I'd really like some new features. I'd especially like to have x64 emulation on my Surface Pro X without having to install an insider build. Windows is pretty stable and has been for a long, long time. Whenever they publish bug fixes, 99% of the time it's a bug I wasn't even aware existed or that it needed fixing.
