  1. Microsoft Paint finally shows up in the Microsoft Store

It cannot be more clear that MS employees had zero vision about the direction of Windows. It’s now since a year or so that they are getting senses knocked into them. I never used 3D Paint and 3D builder even if was shoved on my face. I removed both those stubborn apps with powershell scripts. I even used reg tweak to delete that 3D Builder File explorer pane entry. The employee who predicted this 3D nonsense into Windows must have long left the company already. LMAO.

Snip & Sketch (aside from the awful name) is one of the very few UWP apps that are much better than their classic, Windows XP/7 counterpart

I've encountered a lot of these things online. Just stay away from them, you'll encounter fewer headaches by subscribing to the real netflix than finding workarounds that may steal your data. Happy to see more cybersecurity articles on Neowin! Good job, Joao!

  6. China's unrivaled efficiency sets it up as one of the only countries that will reach the goals. I'm much more worried about the UK where I live which can't stop vaccine hoarding, that alone doesn't fill me with confidence. Do you actually believe that? lol. China is the only country that was given discounts at meeting the goals. Yet they were allocated most of the money. Even though they're the single biggest polluter in the world. That's exactly why Trump left the Paris agreement btw. It honors the biggest polluter which makes absolutely no sense.

Please don't tell me you actually believe any of the garbage that China comes out with? And the UK isn't vaccine hoarding.

  9. So Bitcoin is undermining a goal that China was never going to meet anyway, and obviously had no intentions of actually meeting in the first place (but would probably tell everyone they had met because, you know, China)? Fair enough.

  11. Will YouTube use these metrics to understand that videos with extremely high view counts found to be in violation of their guidelines implies a disconnect between what viewers are interested in, what creators are producing, what advertisers are accepting of, and their own guidelines? Nah. Honestly, who's got time for that kind of introspection and open discussion? Pesky stuff, gets in the way of Progress™ too much.

  12. Android malware hid in fake Netflix app and spread through WhatsApp

There is blame that should be attributed to Google for allowing this onto the Play Store. However, blame should also be put onto anyone dumb enough to install this from a Whatsapp message. "Hmm, I can get 2 months of free Netflix by installing this random app no one has ever heard of, and during installation, I'm going to blindly allow it all the permissions."

  13. Gotta love year 2021. You can release whatever you want. They could announce new RX 8900XT that can do 16K image and ray trace quadrillions of rays and it'll come for all time low 600€. I mean, the product won't get in anyone's hands for real just like same stands true for all the RX 6000 cards...

  14. Great. Good priorities AMD! Focus on cosmetic variances of non-existant cards on a worldwide scale. That'll improve production and logistics time won't it?! ... Duh! And the fact that they say they have made a "select quantity" of these cards... While the regular 6800 XT is and has been unavailable since day one, world-wide, is just.... Funny, I guess?!

  16. YouTube got crazy in the last months. About 2 months ago I wanted to watch a movie on my TV - movie I bought 2 years ago in Google Movies. Surprise - they ask my ID card copy to check I have the apropriate age to watch it. My account is older than the required age - movie is Fast &Furious 8. I still can watch it on my phone in Google Movie app, but not anymore on my TV using YouTube. Of course I will not give them my ID card, but I will never buy any movie on their platform anymore.

I feel notepad, the new powershell, email, browser, and photos app have improved a lot too. There is no UWP notepad, no Store powershell, Windows Email sucks, Edge is not in Store either and Photos still eats more memory than Chrome in 2013

We call it healthcare free at the point of use and it's wonderful we are all responsible for each other's health if we can afford to be. No fear of needing the hospital in this country. LOL! "Free" healthcare...now thats a good one! That's literally not what he said.

  21. Microsoft Paint finally shows up in the Microsoft Store

They even Moved away from their Office Store versions and made it Click-2-Turd (Click-2–Run) only. They themselves have zero confidence in their own platform. Otherwise there wouldn’t have been a need to release Forza Horizon 4 on Steam.

Teach them how to set it in the meantime. Once it has been set, it’s forever. …. Not everyone is in a mood to learn every small thing. Not really an excuse...you can sit back and hope for change, or make the effort to change it yourself. I do the latter if something bothers me.

"This was back when the firm thought we were going to have 3D everything. The average user was going to be making 3D art in Paint 3D, they'd be viewing it on Windows Mixed Reality, adults would be putting this stuff in PowerPoint presentations, and more." Hahahahaha, how utterly wrong they have been every single step of the way.

  29. Microsoft will update Snipping Tool and Paint through the Microsoft Store

Actually, it is using Office 2013's UI. I miss the time when trolls were somewhat informed. That's not quite correct. Windows built-in apps like Paint got a ribbon for the Windows 7 timeframe which has largely been untouched since. This was a modified version of the ribbon from Office 2007. I know, but the current UI isn't that. It's got a File menu, which wasn't in Office 2007. That app had a Backstage Menu button instead. In fact, it got tweaked in version 1703. Besides, there is no shame nor the need to change that which is very effective.

There is no UWP notepad, no Store powershell, Windows Email sucks, Edge is not in Store either and Photos still eats more memory than Chrome in 2013 Powershell is definitely in the Store, and it does keep you updated to the latest version instead of making you upgrade yourself.

  32. Is this the first time they've used the co_release name? I don't remember it before. And it seems kind of early? If 21H2 is going to be as big as far as UI/UX changes that they've been talking about, since we haven't seen those yet why jump off of the rs_prerelease branch now? I suppose they can keep both going internally for now and just split it off again once whatever cut off date for new stuff hits. Still didn't expect it now. Maybe around August or September.

  33. Hope that means I don't have to update the snip tool and can just continue to use what I have now. I don't need snip & sketch, just snip. It works for what I use it for.

  34. I can never get it working, the shortcuts don't work and the software itself just exits when I try to run it, so I stick either with the normal snipping tool or use an old bit of software called printkey 2000, which to be honest is better than both of the other ones even if it is over 20 years old

  35. I like the simplicity of the old one. UWP app performance is still terrible so I avoid them as much as possible. How come they can't make them as fast as win32?

  36. I'm sure the windows version of paint has been screwed up with the selection tool, it seems they've changed where the drag areas are, half the time when I use the drag for what I think is the right side, it uses the left side. I never remember such an issue on the windows 7 version of paint in the many years I've used it but I've encoutered the issue many times this year alone on the windows 10 version. What needed changing with paint from the windows 7 version? It was perfect, it doesn't need updates.

It's really sad. Back when Microsoft started admitting that Windows phone was never going to be a viable business, they started talking about how they wouldn't miss the next big thing. So they bet big on mixed reality and 3D stuff, then smart speakers happened when MS wasn't paying attention to Cortana.

I prefer opening to 'root' , as in, to My Computer. It's fine with me The root of where, your C: drive? I have many drives though and I rarely if ever need to visit drive C. Anyway I think "This PC" (it hasn't been called My Computer since Windows XP) is more of a "root" on Windows, since it shows all of the drives on the system.
