  1. Focus solely on diversity hires and inclusivity and that's the future any company will be heading. What? AMD and Nvidia are also very diverse companies to work at and they are doing fine. Intel's problem is not diversity, it is lack of foresight and leadership because the company got complacent in their leadership position and did not take its competition seriously (and they miscalculated their ability in 10 nm fabs). But I guess we should blame people from marginalized communities who are finally being given opportunities for when a company does badly.

  5. "The browser will also be blocking port 554 for HTTP, HTTPS, or FTP servers as it has been used in some attack vectors. It is interesting to note that Chrome previously blocked this port too but unblocked it after backlash from enterprises. However, Google has once again decided to restrict connections via this port as its usage on Chrome's Dev channel is just 0.00003% of all requests." I mean, generally enterprises aren't going to be deploying a dev version of a browser to their systems, so the % seems like a nonsense value. Plus if it's been used in attack vectors, how about fixing the issue rather than imposing silly little rules like this? I remember when firefox blocked port 81, what a crock of ###### that was

  6. WinRAR 6.01

Because 7zip has a user interface that looks like it's from the 90s So does WinRar, but who even opens the actual program and sees the UI anyway? I've never used anything but the shell extensions. Right click a file to extract it or archive it, what else do you need? Anyway I use Winrar because I paid for it like a decade ago so why would I not keep using it; I'm getting my money's worth out of it.

  13. there's really little scope of improvement in ANC now, 13-levels and 8 mics would be a gimmic at this point. What's really needed in wireless audio is high-bitrate, multi-channel audio transmission with minimal latency. hundreds of dollars worth of premium wireless systems can;t even come close to a simple wired audio setup, despite the hundreds of proprietary codecs & RF tech.

  14. Microsoft's Surface Duo is coming to more European markets

the SDuo has been a complete flop. MS should really destroy all stocks as this point and stop making further embarrassment of themselves. What they should focus on is home-built ARM chips(everyone and their grannys are coming up with their own ARM chips now), because their dependence on intel & Qualcomm have been quite the disasters in front of Apple. Eventually launch Xbox handheld consoles, Windows Smart TV boxes, bring back the MS band as a smartwatch - all using a common Windows Core & UWP app framework. Then once adoption by users & devs increase, they can get back to the mobile market.

  15. Microsoft unveils Surface Headphones 2+ and more peripherals

That's really disappointing that the modern we can doesn't support hello. For casual home users it would be great, even if it didn't have the security that enterprise needs.

  16. Facebook will pin vaccine information to top of News Feed

As per the CDC, clinical trials average four to six years, so most anyone that has received the vaccine is essentially a test dummy. I don't bash either way. If people are that worried about COVID, get the vaccine... if you're worried about the side effects of the vaccine, don't get it. Those who do and those who don't are "equal" in my eyes, as both groups share the same mindset.

I got the J&J but I'm cautious about it as it kicked my ass for a week and I was one of a few that had the pass out effect right afterwards. Health dept called got all my medical history and sent it in with information but again cautious. I think they rushed this stuff and we are all test dummies. Just because you post things that are against it doesn't make it misinformation and things like this shouldn't be plastered in everyones face no matter how uneducated they may be or how ignorant someone may think others are. Just because you don't wish to take it for whatever reason doesn't make you uneducated or ignorant...that is insulting and someone here said it.

You might have overlooked the word "solely" in boumboqc's message. You might have overlooked the lack of evidence. There's no evidence to suggest that Intel focuses "solely" on "diversity hires" and other industry players' hiring practices are too different. It's entirely conjecture based on a political agenda.

This is gonna have the backfire effect... you can't keep bombarding people with information. The ones who were gonna take the vaccine would do it without such invasive prompts and the ones who are "suspicious" will grow more suspicious because they will perceive that there's some huge conspiracy to "push" it on people by Big Tech...

  23. Is it safe to use an extension cord with computer products?

If it isn't safe for a computer product, it isn't safe for anything else either. My laptop is plugged into an extension, which plugs into the wall socket. The wall socket is basically an extension from another room (seriously, you wouldn't believe how this house is wired). At work we have servers plugged into extensions.

I hate that I haven't had time to play this much lately. It's wonderful how you can actually get beautiful graphics at 4K with a 2080 if you twiddle knobs long enough to optimize it. Looking forward to acquiring a 3080 someday in 2022, perhaps...

  28. Is it safe to use an extension cord with computer products?

Yes it is safe, but I would advise that you use a fused extension strip. My two have overvoltage protection https://www.bol.com/nl/p/belkin-stekkerdoos-met-4-uitgangen-2-usb-poorten-2-4a-overspanningsbeveiliging/9200000035799271/?s2a= All my gear simply don't fit into the two available sockets, so I have to use power strips. These days you can even find them with USB ports, like I have.

So its a 4:3 sized monitor not 16:9 - ie its square not rectangle? Going to have a hard time showing a 16:9 movie on a 4:3 monitor full screen.. Without some serious cropping So yeah you will have black bars on top and bottom. You run into this problem Not much you can do about.. You are either going to really crop up the movie, or your going to see black bars if the movie is not the same ratio as your screen.

  36. Microsoft confirms Nuance acquisition for nearly $20 billion

You might think it's a bad buy, but they probably own lots of patents and there is a ton of technology they'll be gaining. Also Nuance owns the market in terms of physician dictation. There aren't any other players in the market, there are just other ways to complete reports, such as manual typing and structured reporting.

  37. Microsoft confirms Nuance acquisition for nearly $20 billion

The price is for patents and technology. people keep saying this but where was it mentioned by Microsoft that its buying for patents? how many patents does Nuance have and how much is it valued at? The list of companies Nuance has acquired over the decades is long. They must have a massive patent portfolio, but their medical customer base is probably a larger motivation.

Yeah. It is about as Thunderbolt as it is on MacOS. No external PCIe devices. And by then you just have a USB port with Displayport output and power delivery. Not sure where you got your info if no external pcie devices through thunderbolt on “MacOS” but it is wrong.

  45. Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Titanium review: The new best convertible

Your evaluation of the M1 and its performance are not simply not accurate, even if the M1 was available for PCs, or that MacOS could run a lot of the software a device like this can. If you are anyone else is going to go Mac, do it, but if you base it on the M1 performance, Apple conned you. Make sure you do some homework on your needs and how the M1 performs in non-test software or non-major software suites. Some of this functionality is on purpose accelerated on the M1 in silicon, and does very little for any other software.

The main benefit of this over many others is easy-of-use. it should boot fine on regular BIOS or UEFI modes and, while not compatible with all ISO's, it's got plenty it works with. I used to use YUMI but switched to this because it's just easier to use and straight to the point.
