It sounds like they're just coming up with anything to push more hardware sales. All this different crypto out right now but aside from Bitcoin which is the big one and used a lot. Are they other ones as used really? Personally I'm looking at Eth and mining on the side since I leave my desktop on all the time anyway. There's like 20 others though that are dirt cheap and it feels like they're just there to take up space.4 points -

Very much digging my Surface Laptop 4. Got the black 32GB Intel to replace my gen 1 Surface Book. Big speed improvements with my dev environment and wifi is a huge improvement as well. I'm quite sure there are better laptops for my workload, but I really do love the 3:2 screen and surface keyboard so it was a nice upgrade for me.3 points -

I’d like to personally see price as a con. Just doesn’t seem that you get all that much for over $2,000 now. My opinion, but would like to see dedicated graphics, twice the storage, and at least 2-in-1/Touch screen for that price. I’d pay maybe $1500 for it, and I imagine we could likely find it for that price on the typical Dell sales + Honey coupon codes or something. Big fan of everything else they have going on for it overall though.2 points -

wait, something like this is actual legal? In most countries it's illegal(criminal) to sell a product higher than marked price, even on ebay/blackmarket. As far as I know - yes it is not illegal (nor should it be!!!) To resell at higher price if there is a demand. That is the basis of market economy. If someone is willing to pay it is their choice. Market sets the price. I am not sure which country you are from but I dont want to be in a place where government can mess with private affairs like that. I am surprised Nvidia did not just officialy raise their prices - everyone else is doing it. It they raise prices themselves they will get the cash - not random re-sellers You are describing capitalism as unfettered capitalism, and they are very different. I know the Right/Reps like to paint USA Capitalism as unfettered Capitalism in the context of the US, but this is not true. Read up a bit on the purposeful limits of capitalism in the USA, how it has gone off the rails over the past 30+ years post Reaganomics. Also grab some historical context. (For example, Socialism was a response to Unfettered Capitalism - and by modern design is to work with Capitalism.) A viable/healthy market MUST be regulated. If not we get crap like this and inflation and supply side monopolies etc. Notice we don't have hyper inflation in the US, even with GDP hitting debt, as we have mechanisms (regulations) to shift the market at the Federal level. The era of Reaganomics and lack regulation in the USA needs to have a stake put in its heart, it never worked, ever, ever, ever. Pick any study, pick any historical reporting - the numbers do not lie, it just doesn't work, and never will. (The Milton Friedman/Reaganomics model was also created from racism, as the intent was to deny help to any brown minority in the USA. Go read what Lee Attwater and other said about this when they were describing the model and messaging, and how to code things. Read what prominent Republicans said of it at the time, the ones that didn't have racist interests, like George Bush Sr. The only economic 'booms' or significant growth the US has seen over the past 30 years comes from Clinton's push back with the famous tax bill that zero Republicans voted for, and helped create the 90s economy, most of it prior to the dot.com boom - which also was possible because of that Tax bill and also from Gore's Internet legislation to commercialize the internet. The only other positive boom we saw since 1990 was the tiny Obama stimulus - which should have been repeated several times, but was blocked by Republicans. Not an argument or anything, just some things to consider. Also, you 'do' want to live in a country where the market is regulated, just as it ALWAYS has been in the US, even though the regulations have been laxed a few times, like the Oil barren years and the post Regan years. (Both nearly destroying the US economy. )2 points -

NASA chooses SpaceX to land next Americans on the Moon
DocM and one other reacted to Ryster for a topic
A post borne out of ignorance. Perhaps you've forgotten that many of the advancements you now take for granted came directly from the space programme. Things designed out of necessity to solve certain challenges in space, and things that have come directly from research performed in space. Plus, as DocM said, it's not like this money is just being sent to the moon and lost. It's spent here on earth into our economies. Then, finally, consider the fragility of human life here on Earth. We're destroying our planet bit by bit, and as a single plant species this is a somewhat dangerous thing to do. Having a base and eventually a colony on the Moon is the first step to having a base and then a colony on Mars, and perhaps beyond. Thus reducing the prospects of human extinction dramatically.2 points -

NASA chooses SpaceX to land next Americans on the Moon
domboy and one other reacted to DocM for a topic
The money is being spent, taxed, and recycled through the economy on Earth. SpaceX is employing thousands of people in Brownsville and McGregor TX, California, Washington State, Michigan (the tank domes for Starship are pressed here) and other states, and most aren't engineers - there are welders, laborers and dozens of other job descriptions the area needed desperately. Additionally, SpaceX is sponsoring STEM programs in their schools, working with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley on astronomy projects, etc. etc. On the Moon they'll be doing advanced science, setting up a research station with Europe, Japan, Canada, and other nations. Much of it'll be medical, but also environmental and Earth observation (which includes climate science.) So, not so useless as some may think.2 points -

Internal connection between two PCs seems to max at 50 MB/s
Mindovermaster reacted to +BudMan for a topic
Even wired gig wouldn't give you that.. More like 113 to maybe 115.. Keep in mind there is overhead.. Even gig is more like low to mid 900's - 940ish I would say it best you could possible see.. Just like you don't see 100, or even 10.. Just some advice, would never run a "server" wireless.. Not like servers move about much This is good advice "Always do wired unless you can't".. Unless the device is mobile, if it has a wired interface, you should do everything you can to wire it.. >Windows Settings shows a link speed of 866/866 Mbps While that is a good PHY connection, real world is not close to that.. Best say 60% of that - normally more in the 50% range.. So lets call it 400ish - so 400/8 = 50MBps.. So yeah if your seeing 50ish over wireless 867 PHY.. that is good performance and expecting any more than that is pretty much dreaming.. This is pretty much pegging a 1gig connection That is s 2.something gig file.. pulling from my nas to my pc over 1gig wired.. You can see its pretty flat line at like 113MBps Now here is the same file from the same nas to the same PC via 2.5gig connection.. So clearly the HDD and the SSD involved where not a bottle neck limiting it to 113.. I see upwards of 280MBps via this connection.. Quite possible someone streaming something off plex at the moment.. Oh yeah - 3 people streaming, movies they watching could be off the same volume I was pulling the test file from, etc.. But yeah gig is going to be about 113MB.. If your seeing over 100MB I would see your normal.. Pretty much any sort of somewhat recent hardware should be able to do 100MBps over gig.. But 120.. No not really possible..1 point -

Lenovo ThinkBook 14 Gen 2 review: A solid mainstream business laptop with AMD Ryzen
adrynalyne reacted to DramaInc for a topic
...and yet, it still beat out the latest gen CPUs from Intel Not the point. Nobody want to buy dated hardware. the point is performance. The AMD 4000 series is still fantastic. In cinebench, the processor in the Surface laptop 4 was rivaling the desktop class 1700X. I owned a Ryzen 1800X desktop back in the day and that was a beast machine so to imagine a Surface Laptop 4 running toe to toe with a 15W mobile processor against a 1700X 95W desktop processor is amazing. The performance delta between the 3000 series and the 4000 series is bigger than between the 4000 series and the 5000 series. You too, missed the point. when you sit at a computer doing something, you can't tell what's new and what's "old". you can only tell performance. Yeah and? I won’t buy machines with last gen hardware and I’m sure I am not alone. Why would I want to pay the same as I would for latest gen and leave performance on the table? Who cares if AMD is faster than Intel, that’s not at all relevant to using older hardware. That, my friend, is the point. yeah, stick to buying labels and spec sheets. the rest of us care about performance. Now that’s just silly. You know full well zen3 is better performing than zen2+. I guess your money means less to you than mine does to me. Oh well, just goes to show who the wiser shopper is. Would you also go out and buy a last year model car for the same price as a new model that is faster, for the same price? From what you just said, I believe you would. There's no logic in anything he says. If im paying current gen prices, I want current gen hardware. Simple as that. It's why I avoided Macbooks for a long time and neowin users were up in arms over Apple doing it, but now forgive Windows PC Vendors.1 point -

Best free anti-malware software?
+mram reacted to goretsky for a question
Hello, Anti-virus and anti-malware software are actually the same thing. They are marketing terms used to brand a product in order to promote it to a particular market segment. Several years ago, I wrote a guide to evaluating anti-virus software on Reddit's r/sysadmin subreddit. I have revised it a couple of times since then, mostly recently last month, and it can now be found on the Spiceworks IT community as one of their HOWTO's: https://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/155722-evaluate-antivirus-software Perhaps you will find it of use.
