India orders Twitter to remove tweets criticizing country's COVID-19 response
Xahid and 9 others reacted to Nick H. for a topic
If the issue was with the accounts as a whole, why not request the accounts be removed instead of the individual tweets? As for the individual tweets, those that posted statistics - such as one noting 200,000 new cases a day and a struggling healthcare system - seem to be posting the same information that other news outlets are reporting. So does that mean all the news outlets are wrong with that information? There does seem to be political motivation, but it appears to be in the request to have those individual tweets removed, not in news outlets reporting the request for them to be hidden.10 points -

Thank you for this comment. There is a concerted effort from World media to malign Mr. Modi. They are drawing comparisons with Trump. However that is further from truth. They selectively hide (or falsely report) facts. For example, a leaked document by an auditor mentions how central govt had sanctioned funds to start various oxygen generation plants back in Dec 2020, but only fractional were operational after 4 months due to lethargy of respective state govts. Like Greta Thunberg toolkit exposé, a new toolkit is at work here where several Twitter accounts (bots or real) are tweeting in sync, false and unverifiable news causing trending of fake news. But Twitter being highly leftist organisation, it is to be seen who wins. ^^ Oh my god, seems the Modi-bots are on Neowin too 😂😂😂.8 points -

I really dislike this sort of comment. If there was an issue in the article, just report it. No need to start accusing people of “political motivation” (which is usually just code for “they said something that disagrees with my politics”). It is not Fascism because current government was democratically elected with thumping majority by common public in just 2019. It’s fascism the moment you cannot vote. Look at China where Xi has made himself the ruler indefinitely and citizens have no say in electing their own government. Next time take your fashionable words like “fascism” “racism” elsewhere. It’s better you don’t comment on this topic unless you can give a single credible source where government acted racist towards anyone. I see what it looks like when they say someone is andhbakhat (blind devotees) . Well history shows most of the fascist governments are democratically picked by the andhbhakats so i hope we are no seeing history repeating.2 points -

MateerL and one other reacted to Tuskd for a topic
What has Medianama got to do with this? If you have issues with the source, you can check the same tweets directly on twitter to see if they are blocked. Farm Laws: I personally don't find anything wrong in them, just an issue that the govt has stated many things but never clarified them in detail. I seriously don't know why farmers are still against the laws even after speaking to many who participated in the protests. Many have no clue on what the names of the 3 laws even are! Its just an anti-Modi/BJP rally by people from a couple of states who are affected by changes to the Mandi system IMO. That being said, you cannot deny that the govt. was very heavy handed in blocking tweets and accounts related to the protests that it made no sense to do it. Yes, there were separatist tweets, but the government's response wasn't limited to blocking only that. Their actions only seem to confirm that they are acting fascist. Neowin's front page only posts the tech angle of any political event. You cannot deny that the government blocked tweets during the protest and you cannot deny that the government blocked tweets during the COVID second wave. If you want to decipher anything more than that in these articles then the Neowin forum is the place you should be going to.2 points -

Medianama?? Seriously?? It's about misinformation, not criticism, the accounts are known for providing misinformation, be it about vaccine or any information regarding present condition. And farmer's protests? Well, yeah 400+ policemen got injured while handling the farmer's protests. The people of India know the reason behind such protests. They're still protesting in large gatherings despite knowing the condition of Covid-19. Recently, one of the MPs falsely posted condolences message regarding death of ex speaker which is totally false. Another leader posted tweet which was copy pasted, it was hilarious. Looks like Neowin has started posting politically motivated articles now.2 points -

This concept has been done before, came full of unintended consequences at first, but came out pretty decent after enough development and trial by fire: https://patchwork.kernel.org/p...5-1-sultan@kerneltoast.com/ But, the Linux folks don't care much for Android-specific stuff in the kernel so anything of the sort will remain rather niche unless Google adopts it. Seems fair enough on the Linux side, since Android OEMs and chipmakers behave rather begrudgingly in the open-source ethos - letter-of-the-law followers, definitely not the spirit.2 points -

No, if you ever sold your dogecoin for a gain of 1 million, your marginal tax rate would be 39.6%. High rates typically only apply to short term investments (<1 year) and it's highly unlikely for a small investment to lead to a million dollar profit in that time frame. Still, assuming a short term gain of 1 million with the absolute worst scenario for you as a taxpayer, you would owe about $347k, which is only $13k more than you owe under the current rate. In most realistic scenarios, you'd pay a lot lower. Even if Biden somehow increased the maximum rate on long term gains to 39.6%, you'd owe around 280k at most. And it doesn't go to him. Save your selective outrage.2 points -

Amen! The US is at the lowest tax rates for individuals and corporations in the last 70 years. Do people even try to follow economics, or just like the bumper sticker BS Republicans put out? Maybe the 'leftist' should push to go back to the 90% tax rates of the 50s or the 70% tax rates of the 70s. BTW - The biggest tax cut in history - Barack Obama. (Weird, isn't he a leftist?) - The next biggest tax cut in history - John Kennedy. Again, nobody pays attention to anything beyond Republican BS. In economics, the strongest economies are during 'Leftist' administrations, the result of 'Leftist' tax policies. There are facts out there, and instead of of supporting people that hurt you financially, you could support people that are less '######' and will help your own economic interests. The Democratic model - the policies help you and poorer people at the same time. In contrast to helping just you. Also, even people with 'real money' - ($100 million plus) support the 'leftist' policies on taxes. Ironically, it is the people that aren't rich enough to be affected that bitch about the 'taxes'. Testing this... Wargon, you make over 5 million a year? If not, this isn't your fight. PS - The anti-leftist economic policies of Republicans come from a model to take money away from poor people of color. They KNOW they are NOT good economic models in general, but hurt poor people and minorities. This isn't conspiracy - see interviews with Lee Atwater, Buckley, etc. - This is all detailed in the words they use like "cut social programs". (Just in case you aren't a racist ###### and didn't realize the economic policy you were being sold is Racist.) ___ Don't believe a ######ing word I say - pull an economic chart of the US, pull a tax chart, pull a spending chart, GDP chart, Deficit chart.2 points -

I'm old now, I've seen many parts of the world and know there's NOTHING out there that interests me at my age. I'm relaxed, and I enjoy flicks like John Wick, The Matrix, Logans Run, Soylent Green, Equilibrium, Running Man, you get it. I'm running a ASUS ROG Zephyrus GU502DU laptop running Ubuntu 20.04, with 24GB ram with an AMD Ryzen 7 (Summit Ridge) and a Nvidia 1660ti I'm hoping that Ubuntu 22.04 will use the kernel 5.11 or newer as these ASUS ROG laptop drivers for the backlight keyboard are said to be in this driver. As I write this, Ubuntu mainline kernel installer has the latest kernel pegged at 5.11.16 is available. I'm terribly hesitant to install the 5.11.x kernel for fear for destroying or breaking something. I hope to learn more about Ubuntu linux as time goes on.1 point -

Its like you were waiting for this exact moment to post all this stuff. The government has its fair share of issues, not denying. But trying to create a crisis to get votes? Give me some of that thing you are smoking. I agree, elections should have been postponed or rallies banned, but COVID rates are highest in states that are nowhere close to going to polls. What's your comment on that? Central government's conspiracy to topple state governments? Everything's in a mess. Centre and states are equally responsible for the second wave disaster. Kerala, which initially stood as a shining example to handle COVID is getting battered now. Truth is, this is too much for the country. We cannot put sense into people who will openly flout lockdown rules or people who still believe there's no COVID. Everyone's still trying their best. What do you mean they are not freely vaccinating their citizens? Every adult who wants to get vaccinated can get it from May 1, subject to vaccine availability, which I agree is an issue. I agree, sedition charges were used by both the Congress and the BJP since time immemorial to squash criticism. Which news channel was bought by the government/BJP? I agree, its very difficult being a minority in this country but its also a reminder to political parties that catering exclusively to minority appeasement politics can only get you so far. BJP is quite far from the ideal political party but it is here to stay in power for the next term too and even further IMO. There is no one to oppose them and state parties cannot pull a coalition aligned enough to take on BJP. BJP will only fall based on its own missteps like this one, just like the Congress fell on its own misstep with the Emergency.1 point -

But Twitter being highly leftist organisation, it is to be seen who wins. "concerted effort by World media to malign Mr.Modi?" I am surprised you say such a thing because Modi and his fans (that's what they are) are quick to thump their chests whenever an international media outlet covers something positive about the country or government. Modi needs International validation but not criticism. I find Modi's comparison to Trump offensive. Modi isn't that dumb. Can I have a link to that leaked document? I actually found it funny when Greta, an environmentalist, tweeted in support of farmers who exploited the region to the fullest extent. People say Greta Thunberg's or Rihanna's opinion does not matter but still become butthurt when they tweet. Let's not act as if the BJP's IT wing does not have a toolkit tailored to each influential person. Like what Snape says, "How dare you use my own spells against me, Potter!"1 point -

But if my crypto would by some small chance were to go to the moon, I would be annoyed getting taxed at 39.6% Lmao this is hilariously American. Don’t tax SHORT TERM capital gains over 1M because I might become rich if crypto booms (even further). What are your crypto gains now? Tell me it’s 50$ so I can die of laughter, not taxes. Well my 43,529 coins at a price of 0.26 cents per coin are currently worth $11,524.80 so your basis is 43,529*0.26 = 11,317.54$? so your profit is 207$ (unless doge crashes again) and you worry about capital gains over 1m? I would understand being somewhat ###### if you had like 1M coins at a 0.0005 basis where you would still need dogecoin to quadruple from the current price point to start worrying about taxes over 1M, but you are delusional if you think you are like at all affected by this. You I purchased them in 2016 for around 0.0002 per coin. If by some miracle it hit $25 that would be $1,088.225 That's what I have left. Turns out in 2016 I used doge to buy dope and reddcoin.
