  1. Screen goes black for 1 second out of no where

Exaggeration, obviously. Not "whatever" ... Intel (which the OP has) doesn't market their CPUs w/ integrated GPUs as an "APU" ... AMD uses the marketing term "Accelerated Processing Unit (APU)" for their CPUs w/ integrated GPUs. Either way ... this is wrong: "you don't call integrated on the CPU a GPU. Right term is APU" as I've explained x number of times in the past.

Does Event Viewer show anything right after these random blackouts? No...no it isn't for the 100th damn time. You really need to stop your trivial "corrections" especially when you are incorrect.

Updates are too much of a wildcard these days and frankly, I'm getting too old and cranky to want to deal with BS.

A friend told me, "why would you want to download a 4GB ISO for a tiny enablement update that takes a few minutes to install?" He was right you know I find manual updates via ISO more reliable. Also good if you don't want to enroll in Insider But are you really in that much of a rush to update? Most updates offer very little unless it is to fix a bug that is more often than not these days caused from the update before.

  9. How to get the Windows 10 May 2021 update right now

Out of curiosity what do you gain from re installing Windows so much these days? I've Windows 10 installs going back to July 2015 which function as good as any new Windows 10 install. I know historically on Windows XP you'd notice a big difference re installing Windows after a year, however I've never found that to be the case since Vista. My install has been going since I built my i7 920 gaming PC in 2008. It was a fresh install of Vista and has been continually upgraded with every version of Windows since. Have never had any issues. Damn, there is no way I would do that (even if it worked well or not) as I figure just to clean off a bunch of random junk/clutter over the years it's not a bad idea to do a proper clean installation once in a while. say at least once every 3-5 years. but with that said... I am sort of impressed that you clean installed Vista in 2008 and then upgrading to each version of Windows since without ever doing a single clean install. I can't imagine too many people have done that, especially those who visit tech sites as they seem to be a bit more picky on keeping their computers in optimal running order etc. p.s. speaking for myself with OS installs over the years... without going too far back, and sticking to more modern times, lets call it WinXP to date (which is pretty much when Windows became stable for the common person anyways), I have done clean installs anywhere from 1-3 years give or take off the top of my head. I can't imagine I ever went more than around 3 years without a clean install and I have been using PC's since 1995. even in more semi-recent/recent memory (call it last 5-10 years or so)... I am probably more in the 2-3 year range as I figure, even if things pretty much work well, which it generally will, it's not a bad idea to start fresh once in a while.

  13. Linux Mint 18.x reaches end of life, upgrade now

From what I can tell it does appear Manjaro is one of the more popular distros (another person, who's a administrator on another forum, uses it) and it appears to be a bit more current than Mint since Mint plays it safe where things are a bit older, but not too old either. but at the same time, at least on paper, the less stuff that changes the less likely anything will break which is nice to have 5 years of support from Mint in this regard as I imagine that's longer than most Linux distros off the top of my head which might be in the 2-3 year range(?) (although I noticed Brandon H mentioned things seem to be solid in this regard(like general system stability etc), so the difference I mentioned is probably minimal enough). so in this regard Mint is probably a little safer than say Manjaro and with Mint being Ubuntu based makes it one of the safest bets if not the safest bet for the casual user since I think it's either the most used, or close to it, for desktop Linux users which means it will be easier to get support if one needs it. I prefer to stick to Mint (straight forward/simple/stable) since just about anything Debian/Ubuntu based (Ubuntu is probably a bit more common for the common person even though I realize that Ubuntu is from Debian basically as .deb files pretty much work on either) is one of the safest bets on Linux (desktop) in general. like 'if' there is some sort of standard on Linux for desktop users, it's probably Debian/Ubuntu based and, from what I can tell, they got the largest user base for desktop Linux users, which as I mentioned before, means there is probably better support if someone needs a bit of help with a issue they might be having. hell, in fact my record uptime on my main PC is 68 days (2nd place = 60 days and 3rd place is 45 days) as it would have kept going but I had to reboot. but that's not to say that Manjaro could not do similar though. for the record... that's more than Windows ever got for me but at teh same time with Windows, forced reboots etc kind of stop one from going longer without reboots as with Windows your probably not going to get more than around 30 days or so. so while preferences vary a bit... Mint is probably one of the safest all-around choices from someone coming from Windows to Linux and it's been around since Aug 2006 and hopefully it will be around many years to come. ill stop babbling now p.s. on Mint I prefer Cinnamon (which is a straight forward/simple/clean interface) but that's mainly if someone has decent hardware that can use GPU acceleration as without that, while still a good choice, Xfce starts to look like a safer bet overall. plus, I heard some people have memory leaks with Cinnamon etc (I don't personally) so in that regard, if someone wants to play it a bit safer, Xfce is a good alternative. of the variants, xbuntu was one of the better For whatever it's worth... Distrowatch (distrowatch.com) shows the Top 3 are 1)MX Linux 2)Manjaro 3)Mint. Xubuntu is currently listed at #39. I wasn't referring to popularity, I said I tried a bunch of distros... 15... Ununtu base didn't support rtx 20 out of box. Lots of stuff was over a year out of date without ppa. Snaps launch at boot, there was some sort of storage leak. Xubuntu obviously is no where near as popular, it's ubuntu with xfce, I brought it up as someone mentioned liking xfce. The main benefit vs regular ubuntu is less bloat [gnome full has a bunch of games and junk], it was also the smallest ubuntu live cd I had w/ gui. Obviously it's not as popular, as if you use ubuntu you can just manually install xfce... Other smaller distros like puppy, core really lack support for top end hardware, also lack "app store"... Manjaro had no bloat, everything is up to date and working, the forum is very active, the "app store" is massive no need for ppa etc... I had never seen mx linux before, the trending linux back when I tested a bunch was some chinese distro.

A friend told me, "why would you want to download a 4GB ISO for a tiny enablement update that takes a few minutes to install?" He was right you know In most scenarios this is correct, but however, an ISO image of Win10 is mainly used for potential future clean installations of Windows 10 to computers that one may need to refurbish I haven't done a clean install of WIndows 10 in forever. I actually think the last time I did was when I built my newest gaming PC some 5 or so years ago. The whole thing about doing clean installs often to keep your PC fresh was something I never bought into.

yeah Manjaro is my go to Linux distro as well. It has the rolling updates thanks to being Arch based and the Manjaro team does a good job of making sure things don't break due to the rolling updates. Pacman/AUR repos can't be beat IMO either. Never touched Manjaro. Their website gives off sketch vibes. Doesn't matter how amazingly great or wonderful or perfect the hivemind declares it to be -- first impressions matter and their website feels like something generated by a bot. Are you and I visiting the same website?

It’s Electron. It has bloat built in before the app itself is even considered. Unless they rewrite it, I don’t see this improving.

Do they even acknowledge how bloated it is or even plan on addressing it? 400MB-1GB RAM usage is nuts.

What is sketchy about Manjaro's website? It's very professionally done and a modern looking site. You are not comparing it to Linux Mint's site which is an old, junky looking WordPress template right?

That's the biggest letdown of Teams chat. And the stupid replay that you can do it on mobile is just lame. I use my desktop for everything and will not switch to mobile while we are in a session just to quote what someone has said Biggest letdown is you can't disable URL previews which take up almost the whole damn screen the biggest letdown is it uses 600MB for just running in the background. I have developer windows 10 pc and it takes 2-3 seconds to switch between chats. think about this there is no easy way to copy or download an image someone sends you in teams. it makes it worse when you cannot forward it. try copying the image by right-clicking. it will let you copy and you would think you can paste to paint or any other applications. nope doesn't work. such a POS application. I usually sit at 900MB-1GB. It’s an absolute hog. we used Jabber before and that wasn’t perfect but man i actually miss it. It doesn’t help that they went full retard and used Electron instead of building a proper app.

  25. EU says Apple distorted music streaming market competition

That is the whole point: - they can’t put a link in the app that goes to their website with ‘sign up here’ cause then they will be banned by Apple. If they want users to sign up they arw forced to use Apple their payment system and pay 30 percent for it. They could pay it themselves or charge to money to the customer but this will make it 30 percent more expensive than Apple Music which is native music app. Either way with this rule either the customer is ripped of or the developers/service providers. Only Apple wins. Add to that that they won’t allow alternative stores that makes it super anti competitive. I love Apple products but I hope to see them bleed and be forced to be a bit more humble. They lost here, MS dropped their cuts this week for their stores (one of their defenses) and the Epic battle starts next week. Time for popcorn. That’s not the point I am addressing. It’s the one about them charging more for subs on the Apple store vs directly. That’s not a thing with Spotify and I’m not aware it is with other services either.I get the whole anti-competitive nature of Apple’s services with Apple Music. The idea of putting a link and directing them to their site to sign up is a bit of a gray area. I have an app on the store that takes them to PayPal to pay for items sold in the app. It’s completely legit because I pop them out into a browser and it’s no longer in-app. I'm pretty sure if apple were aware of that your app would be banned, I remember a large company, pretty sure it was microsoft, doing this and apple pulled the app until they removed it.

  29. Sony announces PlayStation 5 launch in China, beats Microsoft to it

They can't sell enough in other key markets so why rush to release in yet another one if you can't keep up with demand to start with? Sure China is a big market but they limit the games that can be sold there and afaik, probably don't have any love for something like game pass which is streaming from outside their digital wall.
