  1. Verizon is selling off Yahoo! and AOL for $5 billion

I never understood the Yahoo/AOL buy out to begin with. Saw this coming from the beginning. Yahoo and AOL had been useless and dying for years before Verizon bought them up and nothing has changed.

Not operating under the state and federal rules. This process has been hashed out in the federal Environmental Assessment and by the State legislature over the last 6-7 years. There is no eminent domain in Texas. Those who sold out got 2-3 times their property's value. No, you just think you do and choose to stir the pot for whatever reason. SN-15 Now NET Tuesday: weather

  9. DHCP reserving on the router, also on the Wifi clone device?

I managed to fix it, it seems somehow the Powerline network suddenly stopped working, so what I think happened is that the extender was broadcasting an identical SSID for 2.4 and 5GHz Wifi networks that was causing a conflict (maybe?) I can't really be sure, because the extender is upstairs and most of my equipment is downstairs. The printer "successfully" connected to my 2.4GHz wifi but still only got a 169 IP address when it should be in the 192.168.178.x range. I just ended up completely resetting the Powerline network and starting from scratch, and now it works: You are right about DHCP reserve only being configured from the router, there isn't even an option to setup DHCP on the extender, so something else was clearly going on. I wouldn't bother with it if it weren't for my Nest Protect upstairs which kept going offline without the extender network.

  10. Backing up your computer

I have a Samsung Story Station that I installed a 4TB WD Red drive in for regular backups and less important stuff. I like that it has a power switch so I can just turn it on when needed and keep it turned off most of the time. For important irreplaceable things like my old family photos I keep them on various formats. The hard drive for easy access, some M-Discs for permanent archiving and an encrypted archive online, although I will never trust the "cloud" alone. It's just a nice fallback in case my house gets hit by a meteor or something. I used to also back everything up to LTO tapes and I still have them but they're also kind of a hassle, but they hold a huge amount of data and last a really long time which is nice. I do backups manually though and only whenever I feel like it which is definitely not often enough. 😄

  15. Ubuntu 16.04 LTS moves to paid Extended Support Maintenance

Lol the whole invincible Windows XP thing did cross my mind I was stuck on 14.04 for one of my Android Roms I maintain, until recently. I converted it to Docker👍 I'm curious, why do you need to stay on such an old version to maintain the rom? Hardware support maxes at Android 6 (it’s not a phone). It also only runs our applications and has no Google services on it. The build environment is pretty old too and not friendly to newer versions of Ubuntu. I want to switch it to Linux but the time invested has to be worth it to someone.

I will never forget how Yahoo knew its data was breached by hackers and still didn't notify users to change their passwords. "During the strategic review process, Apollo delivered the strongest vision and strategy for the next phase of Verizon Media. I have full confidence that Yahoo will take off in its new home.” Spare us the corporate bull****.

  27. DHCP reserving on the router, also on the Wifi clone device?

In March I got a new router from my ISP and after a lot of faff I managed to get my wifi clone working again which is basically a TP-Link homeplug network. The main TP-Link AP is wired to my router and the "extender" is plugged in upstairs and all it is supposed to do is clone my network with the Wifi clone option it has. Because of this I never even considered setting up DHCP reserve on the Wifi clone, however: recently a lot of my devices are getting 169.x.x.x addresses indicating there is a conflict somewhere, this just started happening a week ago, I haven't changed anything in that time. My devices only started connecting to Wifi properly when I unplugged the extender upstairs. So without having done any initial research into this problem I am wondering if I should also be cloning the DHCP reserve details on the extender? There's a full AP configuration page I can access on the extender to enable/disable 2.4GHz and 5Ghz and also setup the DHCP reserve. I have a lot of devices that use Wifi, so it is no small feat to setup reserve (17 wired and wifi reserved addresses in total).

  28. DHCP reserving on the router, also on the Wifi clone device?

The 169.x.x.x addresses would suggest these devices connected to your homeplug / access point are not finding a DHCP server on your network. Are the home plugs still connected to each other? Only one device should be doing DHCP on your network, so your DHCP reserve should only be setup on your router. Anything else on your network such as a homeplug or wireless access point should just passive and only extending your network, not running DHCP. I presume this WiFi clone option is to clone the SSID, shared key and encryption settings on your main router? If so can you just set this up manually on the access point / home plugs so everything is broadcasting the same SSID / shared key and encryption settings? It might be easier for people to advise more if you could post a network diagram, showing the local static ip address of your router, home plugs / access points, along with screenshots of their configuration.

  29. Backing up your computer

I use Macrium Reflect once a month to do a manual backup my C drive to a WD Elements, 6TB External HDD. I keep 6 months worth of backups and after I have completed the monthly backup, I delete the oldest backup file. This software has helped me out no end. I had a major issue with an update which absolutely messed up everything. Plugged in the external HDD, booted the PC into the software and used the latest backup to bring back the C drive. Took about 10 minutes to do, brilliant bit of kit.

  30. How to get the Windows 10 May 2021 update right now

Out of curiosity what do you gain from re installing Windows so much these days? I've Windows 10 installs going back to July 2015 which function as good as any new Windows 10 install. I know historically on Windows XP you'd notice a big difference re installing Windows after a year, however I've never found that to be the case since Vista. My install has been going since I built my i7 920 gaming PC in 2008. It was a fresh install of Vista and has been continually upgraded with every version of Windows since. Have never had any issues. Nice! Is this still your main PC these days? In 2012 I was given a decent i7 2600k system and it is still my main PC to this day. The only thing I have done to it is fit a solid state drive (120GB 840 Evo). I have no plans on upgrading. Must admit my system until March this year was an i5 2500k I built in 2011, I had no intention of upgrading. The only reason I did was my cousin made me an offer I couldn't refuse on his "old" Ryzen 5 3600 processor and motherboard, I added some DDR4 3600MHz ram resulting in a very cheap upgrade. I could have run my i5 2500k for years to come as for what I do on a PC these days it was perfectly fine. I'll probably end up putting the i5 2500k in my parents PC at some point.

  32. How to get the Windows 10 May 2021 update right now

Yes, it does. Every System Restore snapshot contains a backup of the Registry. And FYI, it is currently the only mean of making Registry backups in Windows. When did they revert back, cause last I heard registry backup was removed from SR. Also, I just manually backed up my registry through regedit. 417MB in size. Where did you hear that it was ever removed? That is the core of System Restore. Someone on a YT tech channel reported it and I read a few posts about it at the time. Its been months like back to 1803. They misinterpreted the article I linked to above. I didn't personally verify it at the time but did just now. My mistake.

  34. Screen goes black for 1 second out of no where

Exaggeration, obviously. Not "whatever" ... Intel (which the OP has) doesn't market their CPUs w/ integrated GPUs as an "APU" ... AMD uses the marketing term "Accelerated Processing Unit (APU)" for their CPUs w/ integrated GPUs. Either way ... this is wrong: "you don't call integrated on the CPU a GPU. Right term is APU" as I've explained x number of times in the past.

  38. Sorry, you confused all that with people allowing law makers to pass laws on things they don't understand thereby making the Internet a steaming pile of crap to use, because they don't understand things and just end up overcomplicating the issue and making it so sites like Neowin have to implement these lawful popups by law. Maybe you remember that the EU is still pursuing a law that would essentially ban memes (EU Articles 11 and 13), because some politicians can't take being made fun of. On the face of it, It attempted to outlaw copyright infringement on the web, (so you can't use Getty images to make your meme about how dumb Bojo is) but those sets of laws actually made it easier for people to infringe on other people's copyright because they now have a grace period and the complainant has to jump through all sorts of hoops to prove their copyright was infringed upon. This is why we see so many crap Chinese websites literally copying our and other proper websites news 1:1 and publishing it as their own, it takes so long to get it all taken down via Google and their host, that the thieves don't care, after 24 hours the article has already ran its course and served its purpose. And when they are eventually removed from search engines and their host has blocked them for violating TOS, they simply move on to the next free virtual hosting service, rinse, repeat.

  39. Anyone ever question why revenue and profit numbers and so widely publicized and easily available but numbers like yearly employment numbers and average salaries for a company are hidden away? I see these huge income numbers and my first question is did this company hire more people or not? Were there across the board pay raises? I guess it's a just reflection of $ being more important than people in our society.

  40. Yeah, the fact you can get better sound quality, cheaper versions is the problem. Drop the price a little bit (we know the margin has to be over 500% at the current price point), increase production, sell more. Yep. The Tozo NC2's are a case in point. I've heard the Tozos are good. I just bought a pair of Enacfire with ANC for $50 and $12.50. I'm not an audiophile, and they may not be the greatest, but $37.50... I bought their E90s a while back, and some low-profile G10 as part of a promotion with the A9s. The E90s are pretty good for $30, but no ANC. Enacfire's are good. I have the E60's and E90's. Love them. But when I got the Tozo NC2's, The EnactFire's sit in the drawer. I won't get rid of them but the Tozo's will put a real smile on your face. I think its the sound signature of the Tozo with its thumping bass that does it for me. And the NC is the truth.

So in other words... No, SpaceX do NOT cover the residents for their inconvenience and if any damage is done they have to go through insurance claims processes that could be denied. Oh, and at some point the homeowners there will probably have compulsory purchase orders slapped on them. Nice. Right. Gotcha.
