Private system....and his words have weight and because of his position manage to somehow incite idiots. They believe his words. Because of that, he needed to be removed. Also, as the article stated, what he did, clearly violated their rules. Case closed.

They never should have banned him in the first place. If people didn't want to read what he had to say, they could just block him.

  5. I hate Facebook with a passion. Neowin's pages are still blocked from posting (since April 23rd) and Facebook business support are completely useless, not once in all that time have I been told WHY the pages were blocked from posting, other than some message about "temporarily limiting posting" (when all we do there is repost our news feed, just like we do on Twitter @NeowinFeed) meanwhile I get unhelpful updates like these: Hi Steven, Thank you so much for your patience! We're still working on looking into this and resolving the issue for you, please be assured that we understand how urgent this issue is and we're treating it as such. We're doing everything we can to get this resolved as soon as possible, and thoroughly for you! I'll be in touch as soon as I have an update, apologies for the delay. I hope you have an amazing day, take care! Thanks, **Redacted** Concierge | Facebook Support

  6. New Windows 10 concept shows us a new Start menu and flyouts

Concepts tend to look good till the actual coders turn around and tell you this doesn't work or you can't do this or it won't work right. Or the user groups that companies bring in to test some changes don't like it so the whole thing is scrapped.

  7. For a product that is supposed to connect people, they are almost impossible to contact to resolve issues like what I posted above. Ten years ago they deleted our page twice and only did something about it when Neowin got a lot of news coverage about their inaction, despite saying they would be more careful next time, they went and did it again soon after. https://www.neowin.net/news/fa...atement-on-fanpage-removal/ Facebook doesn't care about its users.

Also, as the article stated, what he did, clearly violated their rules. Case closed. They have not banned Congress Woman Maxine Waters. A double standard in which is also their right as a private entity. Stay on topic please, whataboutism doesn't work here. Just because you don't like it does not make it off-topic or whataboutism. There's certainly an argument to be made for the banning of Trump over the riots, but that argument falls apart for them if they are not going to hold the same standard to others doing the same thing. They ought to either apply the standard consistently, or not at all.

  11. Facebook's Oversight Board says it was right to suspend Trump

I mean ok, Facebook bans some guy - but claiming an "oversight board", created and funded by the very same Facebook, doesn't actually give that decision any more or less legitimacy. In the end, it's nothing more than a arbitrary decision made by a giant corporation. https://newfastuff.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/N3MrZrA.png

  14. Well duh there's no ARM cores, how are you going to run x86_64 CISC instructions on an ARM CPU? Your post makes no sense. I am really not understanding this push for ARM on literally everything. Because Apple made a good implementation of their own design, suddenly its ARM ALL THE THINGS. My first assumption is battery life... but not all folks need long lasting batteries, especially if their mobile CPU is consuming 65W! Then comes the heat argument, which I don't know if a proper ARM CPU can play normal games yet like x86, especially packaged in a way where it ambiently cools. I love ARM a lot but let's be realistic, it's got a LONG ways to go against x86 still.

  16. Yes that is a big problem, but the same is happening with the news outlets that makes it even harder to understand the real truth. If you take the coverage of the AstraZenica vaccine for example, at least here in the Netherlands. All day you hear subjects like "Again something wrong with that vaccin"-like subjects, with influencers discussing how dangerous that vaccin MIGHT be. Sure they mention it's safe, but with headlines like that every single day, can make anyone question it's safety. I had to convince my parents it was safe. So it's not just people on Facebook that look up things like is it safe, and get shown a lot of misinformation and get stuck into that idea.

  17. I'm kind of with you on this and the Signal demo was pretty much an example of where your personally identifiable data stayed within Facebook. This is how their ad platform works. The problem is that most people don't know how tailored the adverts they see are and it's a shock when they see things like the above where the information they had put into Facebook (presumerably to share with their friends, colleagues, etc.) and their behaviour was used to target them.

  18. Stardock announces DeskScapes 11, Beta available right now

I remember getting a license of this and then requesting a feature to only animate it when the FULL desktop showed (all windows minimized) but stop the animation if a window was majorly covering the desktop even if not fully maximized. Not only did no one from Stardock bother to reply in their forums but I was attacked by a vicious unfriendly community for "having a sense of entitlement". 😳😳 Very awful experience.

Yup, agreed 100%. Meanwhile, WPE can turn itself off entirely (freeing up VRAM, etc.) if you run a program or it can pause any/all monitors if you maximize a window or fullscreen an app, etc. etc. at your choice. You can create ordered or randomized playlists per monitor, using stills, programs, weblets, videos, or WPE created scenes (of which there are tens of thousand now, all free), run the videos off of disk or cached in RAM, 32-bit or 64-bit, etc. etc. etc.

Too little, too late. Another Stardock application neglected for so long that other vendors have filled the gap with superior products at better prices updated with new features and backgrounds daily. In this case, Wallpaper Engine on Steam for $4.

flash was great, adobe should have open sourced it instead of killing it it allowed people to bypass app stores on mobiles, a tech ahead of its time actionscript was a wonderful language (kotlin and swift reminds me of that) hopefully WASM delivers, but so far Microsoft decided to bloat their implementation with blazor, not good.. rust maybe? meh the language sucks

  40. Facebook's Oversight Board says it was right to suspend Trump

In the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter. People want to act like FB is a public forum but it's not. No website out there is, they all moderate comments unless you're something like 4chan. If so many people hate it then you'll have to stop using it. The only thing that will effect how social media sites are run are the users who actually use them either sticking around or not.

I still think Titanfall 2 is the best FPS campaign in many years and is very underrated. It was the first game I've downloaded when I've got myself Xbox Series X - I'm going to finish it for the third time (previous two were on a PC).

I always tend to wander back to Brave but even I will admit Microsoft is adding some nice features with the Chromium based Edge Not sure what it is about Brave or Vivaldi, but I just can't get into those browsers. I try to get into Vivaldi, but I just wind up removing it after a bit, for some reason. I’m the same way. I’m trying to give Vivaldi another shot though.

  43. Stardock announces DeskScapes 11, Beta available right now

Eh, I would debate stability with you. Why would you take the losing side of that argument? Stardock takes YEARS to make even the most minor of updates to all of their software (and most of it is abandonware now), while WPE is in DAILY active development. Debating the stability of WPE doesn't equate to taking the side of Stardock. Weird assumption. Um, who ELSE is responsible for the stability of their released products?! Odd equivocation, mate. Uh, the developers of WPE? What are you on about now? Did you not understand that I was talking about the debatable stability of WPE?? This is like AMD vs Intel

Valid question, I wouldn't be surprised if most of the chromebook sales are in the US. It just shows you how different things sound when you give the real number, 12 million, compared to the percentage change, +275%. Such a easy way to spin the news.

  47. EU says Apple distorted music streaming market competition

That is the whole point: - they can’t put a link in the app that goes to their website with ‘sign up here’ cause then they will be banned by Apple. If they want users to sign up they arw forced to use Apple their payment system and pay 30 percent for it. They could pay it themselves or charge to money to the customer but this will make it 30 percent more expensive than Apple Music which is native music app. Either way with this rule either the customer is ripped of or the developers/service providers. Only Apple wins. Add to that that they won’t allow alternative stores that makes it super anti competitive. I love Apple products but I hope to see them bleed and be forced to be a bit more humble. They lost here, MS dropped their cuts this week for their stores (one of their defenses) and the Epic battle starts next week. Time for popcorn. That’s not the point I am addressing. It’s the one about them charging more for subs on the Apple store vs directly. That’s not a thing with Spotify and I’m not aware it is with other services either.I get the whole anti-competitive nature of Apple’s services with Apple Music. The idea of putting a link and directing them to their site to sign up is a bit of a gray area. I have an app on the store that takes them to PayPal to pay for items sold in the app. It’s completely legit because I pop them out into a browser and it’s no longer in-app. I'm pretty sure if apple were aware of that your app would be banned, I remember a large company, pretty sure it was microsoft, doing this and apple pulled the app until they removed it. I am 100% certain they would not since they suggested this method to me. There is nothing that says you cannot break out of an app and use a browser. It seems what you are doing is popping up a webview control instead of using an in-app prompt telling you to visit the website to purchase. Cleaver, but I don’t think Apple would lt you get away with it if you were Epic and trying to use this exact tactic with Fortnight Incorrect. I am literally breaking out of the app and using Safari to take care of payment. Apple does allow it, since they suggested it. Not in-app? Not an in-app purchase. Epic got in trouble for not only hiding their purchase system from reviewers, but staying in-app. What is your app called? Apologies, I’m not going to disclose that. Why not? Because I was contracted to do it and it’s not tied to me, therefore I have no business discussing specifics. I don’t build applications for myself. So what you are saying is that you could probably have just been making all this up and you are just some random dude on the internet saying he has done something yeah? Which is about as reliable as me saying I work for Apple and would love to know what this app is because it is against the rules of our Appstore and would be removed. I mean, if what you are saying is true, what I'm saying could equally be true.

  49. Physical Keys (YubiKey, etc)

What is your planned use for whatever key you might happen to get? I have a hard time justify their use for most things to be honest. What is the scenario that you will use it? To auth to some site on your phone or your phone itself even - so your really going to carry this key with you, along with your phone? And pop it out every time you need to do xyz? Are you going to use it to log into your computer - in your house? Really? Or you going to just leave it plugged into your PC all the time? Now if you were going to use it say access your bank website that you only access on rare occasions, or maybe to access your crypto exchange account. Don't get me wrong - they do have their use for sure.. But without the scenarios you plan on using it.. Keeping in mind that all security is always going to be something extra that has to be done.. The more "extra" that thing is - the less likely it will ever be used. Or will be circumvented for ease of use that defeats the whole purpose. Give you a perfect example of this in a work environment, with IT professionals.. So to login to the laptops you needed tiks card, got specific certs on it, etc. Because the laptop drive is encrypted. What your suppose to do is carry said card in your wallet. And place into the laptop when your using it, then say when you go home and putting the laptop in your bag where it might be stolen.. Or really even say you were going out for a business lunch or something and leaving your laptop at the desk. The card should go with you.. Guess what happens.. Users just left the card in their laptops 24/7 - shoot they even cut off the end of the card so it didn't stick out so they could just slide it into their bags when leaving. So they leave said laptop bag in their car, and it gets stolen, or leave it in the uber or bus.. The whole point of the 2fa auth token is defeated because it was "too much" effort to take it in and out So I ask - what is the scenario of use? Are you going to put the key in a safe place - and only use it to access your crypo/bank account which is something you don't do every day? Or you plan on using it to auth to say neowin Which you do every day, or multiple times a day.. So the thing ends up sticking out the usb port of your PC 24/7/365 My 2fa is my phone.. I have it with my 24/7/365 - other than when sleeping (right next to me) or taking a shower - again most likely on the sink in the bathroom with me.. What are you going to do with this key? Are you going to carry it with you on a chain around your neck.. And put it into a device, and take it out the device every time you need to auth?
