Private system....and his words have weight and because of his position manage to somehow incite idiots. They believe his words. Because of that, he needed to be removed. Also, as the article stated, what he did, clearly violated their rules. Case closed.

They never should have banned him in the first place. If people didn't want to read what he had to say, they could just block him.

  5. I hate Facebook with a passion. Neowin's pages are still blocked from posting (since April 23rd) and Facebook business support are completely useless, not once in all that time have I been told WHY the pages were blocked from posting, other than some message about "temporarily limiting posting" (when all we do there is repost our news feed, just like we do on Twitter @NeowinFeed) meanwhile I get unhelpful updates like these: Hi Steven, Thank you so much for your patience! We're still working on looking into this and resolving the issue for you, please be assured that we understand how urgent this issue is and we're treating it as such. We're doing everything we can to get this resolved as soon as possible, and thoroughly for you! I'll be in touch as soon as I have an update, apologies for the delay. I hope you have an amazing day, take care! Thanks, **Redacted** Concierge | Facebook Support

  6. New Windows 10 concept shows us a new Start menu and flyouts

Concepts tend to look good till the actual coders turn around and tell you this doesn't work or you can't do this or it won't work right. Or the user groups that companies bring in to test some changes don't like it so the whole thing is scrapped.

  7. For a product that is supposed to connect people, they are almost impossible to contact to resolve issues like what I posted above. Ten years ago they deleted our page twice and only did something about it when Neowin got a lot of news coverage about their inaction, despite saying they would be more careful next time, they went and did it again soon after. https://www.neowin.net/news/fa...atement-on-fanpage-removal/ Facebook doesn't care about its users.

Also, as the article stated, what he did, clearly violated their rules. Case closed. They have not banned Congress Woman Maxine Waters. A double standard in which is also their right as a private entity. Stay on topic please, whataboutism doesn't work here. Just because you don't like it does not make it off-topic or whataboutism. There's certainly an argument to be made for the banning of Trump over the riots, but that argument falls apart for them if they are not going to hold the same standard to others doing the same thing. They ought to either apply the standard consistently, or not at all.

  11. Facebook's Oversight Board says it was right to suspend Trump

I mean ok, Facebook bans some guy - but claiming an "oversight board", created and funded by the very same Facebook, doesn't actually give that decision any more or less legitimacy. In the end, it's nothing more than a arbitrary decision made by a giant corporation. https://newfastuff.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/N3MrZrA.png

  14. Well duh there's no ARM cores, how are you going to run x86_64 CISC instructions on an ARM CPU? Your post makes no sense. I am really not understanding this push for ARM on literally everything. Because Apple made a good implementation of their own design, suddenly its ARM ALL THE THINGS. My first assumption is battery life... but not all folks need long lasting batteries, especially if their mobile CPU is consuming 65W! Then comes the heat argument, which I don't know if a proper ARM CPU can play normal games yet like x86, especially packaged in a way where it ambiently cools. I love ARM a lot but let's be realistic, it's got a LONG ways to go against x86 still.

  16. Yes that is a big problem, but the same is happening with the news outlets that makes it even harder to understand the real truth. If you take the coverage of the AstraZenica vaccine for example, at least here in the Netherlands. All day you hear subjects like "Again something wrong with that vaccin"-like subjects, with influencers discussing how dangerous that vaccin MIGHT be. Sure they mention it's safe, but with headlines like that every single day, can make anyone question it's safety. I had to convince my parents it was safe. So it's not just people on Facebook that look up things like is it safe, and get shown a lot of misinformation and get stuck into that idea.

  17. I'm kind of with you on this and the Signal demo was pretty much an example of where your personally identifiable data stayed within Facebook. This is how their ad platform works. The problem is that most people don't know how tailored the adverts they see are and it's a shock when they see things like the above where the information they had put into Facebook (presumerably to share with their friends, colleagues, etc.) and their behaviour was used to target them.

  18. Stardock announces DeskScapes 11, Beta available right now

I remember getting a license of this and then requesting a feature to only animate it when the FULL desktop showed (all windows minimized) but stop the animation if a window was majorly covering the desktop even if not fully maximized. Not only did no one from Stardock bother to reply in their forums but I was attacked by a vicious unfriendly community for "having a sense of entitlement". 😳😳 Very awful experience.

Yup, agreed 100%. Meanwhile, WPE can turn itself off entirely (freeing up VRAM, etc.) if you run a program or it can pause any/all monitors if you maximize a window or fullscreen an app, etc. etc. at your choice. You can create ordered or randomized playlists per monitor, using stills, programs, weblets, videos, or WPE created scenes (of which there are tens of thousand now, all free), run the videos off of disk or cached in RAM, 32-bit or 64-bit, etc. etc. etc.

Too little, too late. Another Stardock application neglected for so long that other vendors have filled the gap with superior products at better prices updated with new features and backgrounds daily. In this case, Wallpaper Engine on Steam for $4.

  32. Microsoft is fully removing Flash from Windows 10 in July

flash was great, adobe should have open sourced it instead of killing it it allowed people to bypass app stores on mobiles, a tech ahead of its time actionscript was a wonderful language (kotlin and swift reminds me of that) hopefully WASM delivers, but so far Microsoft decided to bloat their implementation with blazor, not good.. rust maybe? meh the language sucks

I love ARM a lot but let's be realistic, it's got a LONG ways to go against x86 still. Yeah-- for that I can see. Battery and heat, its not going to be beat. We know Intel has its own spin on ARM with their smaller Atom cores on the way with 12th gen. They might not be able to match pure ARM on battery life and heat but if they get close enough while keeping the performance advantage then I'd call it a win. I will be on the lookout for that information! I've got an itch to get a new tablet this year since my last one (running a celeron N4100) really didn't cut it out on the performance I was looking for. Currently thinking of the X12 Detachable (which also has an easily replaceable battery!) But if Intel has even better on the way than the 1180G7, I may wait and see what that Atom core is. I just saw this posted not too long ago. https://www.pcgamer.com/intels...takes-a-vital-step-forward/

  37. Edge for Linux is now available in the Beta channel

I always tend to wander back to Brave but even I will admit Microsoft is adding some nice features with the Chromium based Edge Not sure what it is about Brave or Vivaldi, but I just can't get into those browsers. I try to get into Vivaldi, but I just wind up removing it after a bit, for some reason. I’m the same way. I’m trying to give Vivaldi another shot though. LOL I just installed Brave to try it out again.

  38. Facebook still makes money from reposted political memes from both sides of the political spectrum. I rarely see useful information from friends and family on it any more. It's incredible how it has become a means of sowing fear and hate and still presents itself as a useful thing. As long as my family occasionally uses it to post updates on health or happenings, I'll check it daily. Over time, it's devolved into a necessary evil that someday needs to die off, since Zucks crew have no real interest in controlling the politically sculpted astroturfed memes that too many are eager to repost.

  39. I hear that! My sister in law's phone is always going ballistic when she's here. She doesn't even really look at what was said and just swipes it away. Ask her why she has the people that are CONSTANTLY posting as friends and she has no reasonable reply. I had an account on there for about a month and only had 8 friends. All were family including above mentioned sister in law. Saw so much stupid crap on there I couldn't find how to delete my account fast enough! I can see how FB could be a good thing, but not with how it is now a days.

  40. Facebook seems like it would be exhausting to me. Your whole family and all of your friends constantly sending you messages, photos and memes, wanting to chat and waiting for you to reply and like and subscribe or whatever else you do on that thing. No thanks, I'll pass.

  41. I had an issue with my account (username was very popular and a lot of people thought it was "theirs" so they kept asking for reset emails). One day I was locked out and was never able to get back in. Sent them my driver's license to try to get it fixed but never heard back. Then the whole fiasco with Cambridge analytica happened (and many data breaches after) and I gave up on it. Thought about creating a new account but I'm glad I didn't. Don't miss it one bit.

  42. I don't get the hate against Facebook itself. Facebook isn't selling my data or giving it away. It gives advertisers a tool to really specify who should see their ad. Only Facebook knows who those people are. Now compare this to any other company. For example, the local store with a discount card, that promised not to share my info, GAVE my email adres and balance to Facebook. Hospitals, even very specific about my condition share my email address, name and birth info to Survey holders and services like mass mailers without consent. Or any other website with 300+ options to disable not to send my data to other companies. So I rather have 1 service that knows everything about me, but keeps it private than having over 300 companies building profiles about me.

  43. Not just the gaming industry. All multi-nationals are dirty by definition as they put profit before people. I have no alternative that wouldn't include tearing the world down and rebuilding it but I repeat, as it stands today all multi-national companies are filth and are actively working against the best interest of the normal everyday person. Rant over, now breathe and go to my happy place. It's just business, not multinationals. Also not that particularly dirty - just Sony protecting their walled garden, same as Apple or anyone else with substantial market position. "It's just business, not multinationals" No, I reject that. Most, not all, local businesses focus on a combination of making a reasonable profit and supporting the local community. To suggest local business and multi-nationals are the same is simply incorrect. lol or you're a bit naive... That isn't to say there aren't local business that do support their local community but you reallllly need to understand what's being done to help the community, and what's being done just for PR purposes. The last company I was at utilized delivery pharmacies, moving scripts around which they're not supposed to do, operating in a for-profit manner at non-profit status to get dirt cheap pricing while pushing medications onto their customers. They made stupid money until they got caught, then opted to burn the pharmacy down because setting up a new one was cheaper than paying the half-million+ they owed. In the process, pharmacists can/may have gotten blacklisted but they didn't give two craps. But then they'd run some bogus ass charity campaign, making sandwiches for the hungry, or donating food... using what the employees brought in, or the employees time, to create positive PR for themselves at low cost so they can add it to their news blurbs for the website. Again, not all business is that dirty... The company I work for now is miles better than the last, but that doesn't change how I feel about how business operates... or really the innate greed within people... and I haven't even scratched the surface of all the crappy behaviors I've seen over the years, and I'm not that old lol.

  45. Edge for Linux is now available in the Beta channel

I could also imagine that there is a subset of Linux users that use the OS because they want to move away from Microsoft products. I don't know if that would be a large group or not, but it would make the interest in a Linux version of Edge even smaller. With that said, I appreciate that Microsoft are making their tools available for the Linux community, even if I wouldn't use Edge myself - nothing against Microsoft, I just prefer Firefox at the moment.

  46. "As you know, many companies are exploring this idea and not a single one can explain how cross-play improves the PlayStation business. " That one is on us. If we were smart enough to boycott a brand when they don't provide this kind of feature, the point would be a no-brainer.

  47. Hopefully, Sony didn't make it an inclusive partnership, cause that would suck for us Xbox Series X owners. Since discord is hell bent on staying independent from what's been talked about, they'd be silly to take a single Sony investment and lock their service to just the PS Network. They'll want to make deals with Xbox and others and get it integrated as much as they can all over, or it won't grow outside of the PC space. Certain companies might have a culture that allows them to be bought by Sony. It might be because they are Playstation fans and hate Xbox. A business isn't into hating another business unless they're heated rivals in the same market. Discord isn't competing with Sony and MS or Nintendo. If anything, I'd say on the PC they're direct competition is Steam. To an extent at least. They're much better off getting their service into every platform out there so it can grow outside of the core "gamer" market it's labeled as being for right now. Team Speak is another "Discord clone". You do realize TS is much older than Discord and Slack, right?
