To add the this the quest 2 is great, you can use it with out a cable using airlink and makes it perfect for PC VR gaming. I did have the original Vive and the quest 2 for me is much better.1 point -
Icons missing from shortcuts / empty, white, shortcuts; how come?
goretsky reacted to kiddingguy for a topic
YESSSS!! I got them back! What did I do... just followed the solution from 'henvaen6 18 Sep, 2017 @ 12:02am" at https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/392183857628047411/ "My steam icons just disappeared today, but I found the solution by accident. Windows had apparently forgotten how urls work so the default app for opening them was reset. Just rightclick the shortcut and select properties. Then you'll see there's no app for opening a url so click select and pick "internet browser", this both made the shortcuts work and refreshed all the icons. If you pick steam, which seems like the right choice all the shortcuts will open steam and have the steam icon, this includes all url shortcuts that are not shortcuts to steam games."1 point -

adrynalyne reacted to Nick H. for a topic
In his defence, ardrynalyne as much as told you that it wouldn't. Registry cleaners are just terrible programs, almost always making any changes for the worse. They should never be used. I'm not sure that I have any advice on this. For Steam games at least, it looks like the shortcuts are web URLs. Have you checked your link associations to make sure they are correct? For example, making sure that steam:// automatically uses the Steam launcher? For example, check here and here as well.1 point -

Or it works when you don't have to worry about bunch of things having the same name which is the biggest problem with quick access. E.g. Say you sync ten SharePoint sites and you always put stuff in "Photos". Your quick access ends up looking like this: Photos Photos Photos Photos So which one belongs to what site?1 point -

Windows 10X reportedly delayed indefinitely, focus to shift to Windows 10
matthiew reacted to DeusProto for a topic
Desktop PCs should be front and center of UI and UX development. Smaller spaces between buttons, smaller buttons overall, increased information density and minimal whitespace. And bring back Aero Glass. No more huge whitespace UWP programs that take up 1/3 of my 4K 48 inch OLED TV when 1/8 at the most would be plenty. End all development of any 'mobile' centric things with the exception of the computer programs they develop for Android which is the best overall mobile experience especially if you use a Google Pixel series phone and heavily utilize Google's ecosystem of products and services. Bring the focus back to good ol' classic Win32 C++ development. I would also like to see rebootless updates including major build upgrades that change the kernel. Just a quick flash of the display as it updates the kernel quickly and bam your programs that you had open are still there right where you left them. So if you were composing your novel in Notepad and hadn't yet saved it that window is still there with the text entered after even major upgrades. No more reboots. Add an advanced partition tool and hard drive and partition cloning and conversion tool to the boot menu and other advanced power user utilities. Add additional buttons to the usual minimize, maximize, close buttons: stay-on-top; and roll-up. With perhaps additional buttons that can be added through an advanced options panel. Bring things back to being power user-centric where instead of obsessing about making things "easy to use" without having to read documentation, ease users into getting used to doing some heavy reading to properly learn how to make full use of the OS. No more easy rides. We're also severely overdue for a brand new complete from scratch file system. NTFS is getting a bit long in the tooth. Make more use of the F13-F24 buttons for the power users like me who have special keyboards that have 24 F buttons instead of the paltry 12 that are included with JV level keyboards. Like winkey+F24 to make a window 50% transparent.1 point -

Windows 10X reportedly delayed indefinitely, focus to shift to Windows 10
DeusProto reacted to shockz for a topic
The sooner everyone accepts that Windows future relies on the relic of win32 apps, the better everyone off will be. Nobody is going to invest in a completely new os to develop against in current climate. Well established iOS and Android app stores (both of which work on desktop computers now) are taking up the slack if they can't use a browser based application. Most win32 apps for new services are basically a web wrapper at this point anyways. Anyone who wasn't caught in MS marketing hype new 10x was DOA.1 point -

I'd highly recommend the Quest 2. The wireless games are really great quality on the new chip. Then if he wants to play any PC VR games, he can use the Link cable or Virtual Desktop. I used to have the Vive and loved it, but my Quest 2 is WAY better.1 point
