it's windows and electron apps (and JIT heavy apps i should say) they consume a ###### ton because they are inefficient yeap, windows promote JIT based desktop apps with their dotnet, instead of making them compile to native code so it doesn't have to recompile everytime you start your program same for electron, this ###### is the reason why we have global warming issues2 points -

You want to blame anyone - Blame the people, it's our culture. The government are a product of the people that live in it. They were voted in by us after all. It's collective responsibility. One thing I will say, is that they did listen to scientists which is a heck of a lot better than a lot of other countries out there. So whilst you maybe upset you're not living in a perfect utopian society, it's clear that some decisions were made correct and saved a lot of lives. And yes, it's got to be an economic fight as well - You can't endlessly lockdown the population with a blank chequebook.1 point -

Ireland stands strong, refuses to pay ransom in attack on its national health service
jnelsoninjax reacted to Nick H. for a topic
A lot of hackers have websites and Twitter accounts. I agree criminals don't usually have websites and Twitter accounts. I haven't heard that Darkside has been forced to be shutdown. That makes no sense. Last sentence of the article. Yes, they shutdown a server. LOL The actors are going no where unless they are retiring with all their loot. BTW Good on Ireland for not paying criminals. You've changed your stance. First you said that you hadn't heard that Darkside had been shutdown, which is mentioned at the end of the article. They have suspended their operations and sent a message to all members saying that the program is closed, so Darkside as it is known now is no more. However of course you are right, that is not going to stop the members from continuing to work under other names or as part of other groups. What? Darkside has not been shutdown unless that was the name of the server. LOL Them saying they are shutdown is for mainstream media consumption. Talking about Darkside like it's a static organization makes no sense. Alright, fine. I've tried pointing out the correction and even agreeing with your modified statement. I swear I'd have an easier discussion with a flat earther...1 point -

It would be handy to know how it happened, what was the method of the hackers. Also After the Colonial Pipeline incident, DarkSide which was behind the attack has reportedly had its servers seized. The group's website is down and it has released a statement that the group is shutting down and "disbanding" due to pressure from US government. It is a lie. * The first rule of the hackers is to be anonymous. * The second rule of the hackers is, clean your tracks. Why? Rule 1 How many hackers have an official website? None. And how many hackers have an official Twitter? none. Even third-class hackers know that and they are not the average guy hacking in their mom basement, they are expert that want to profit from it. For example, the average programmer in Romania earns $2'000 USD per month. With one heist, he could earn $100'000 USD (that is 4 year worth of salary) and it is mostly risk-free. Also, about server seized, meh. For hackers, it is trivial to rent a disposable machine and use it for their actions (how, using a stolen credit card, a non-traceable credit card, renting a server in a country that gives a rat-butt about the CIA, etc.). For example, this guy is pestering me: https://www.abuseipdb.com/check/190.2.131.201 And about seizing its incomes. meh, it is not happenings. Bitcoin is highly traceable and every transaction is public by design. However, it could be associate with an email and the email could be anonymous.1 point -

If you are Aussie, I have one in a box unused willing to let go for A$750. I was joking and I'm not in Australia, but you've brought up a couple of questions: Is the PS5 you are selling the the Disc one or the Digital? Why are you selling an unboxed PS5? It's a disc one, I preordered since Sep 2020 but only got it a couple weeks ago, and it still stay in the box. I actually don't have a lot of time for gaming anymore as I have not touched my PS4 for over a year, so I'm thinking of letting it go.1 point -

Samsung 970 Pro NVME SSD. All in a Cooler Master Cosmos case. EVGA RTX 3090, feeding a 38" LG HDR 1600p monitor. Now that the "my **** is bigger than yours" is over, it uses a lot of power. Probably licensing. Adding BR support would likely require a blanket license for every machine sold even though a good chunk of them won't use it at all. Understandable but it is also difficult to find a 4K Blu-Player there are few choices like there was for DVD or Blu-Ray's players.1 point -

Colonial Pipeline joins Brenntag in paying millions of dollars worth of Bitcoin as ransom
Geezy reacted to Rosyna for a topic
I think it’s important to note that the ransomware did *not* shut down the pipeline. It shut down the billing system. And because Colonial Pipeline would rather have a two week delay in gas delivery and cause a rush than potentially under bill customers, Colonial Pipeline shut down the pipeline.1 point -
