  6. WhatsApp sues Indian government over new Intermediary Guidelines

Indian govt has been demanding to spy on citizens via WhatsApp for a long time. This is just the latest development. Even before WhatsApp introduced encryption, law enforcement here was requesting a backdoor and WhatsApp refused. They fought Blackberry too in 2008 and wanted backdoor access to its encrypted communications, coming close to banning the service.

  11. The whole idea that "this app starts faster...when we preload it before you even use it" is just stupid. It takes up resources by loading bits that the user might not use at all. So basically your computer uses more resources and loads Windows slower...but you get a simple app then faster? Why not stop there Microsoft, preload everything from MS Paint and Notepad to Office apps! Just in case!

  12. Nadella is the man behind "Software As A Service" and "Cloud First, Mobile First" movements at Microsoft. When he gets excited about something, I can only think of more stuff getting pushed to Azure, more subscriptions, and less ownership. I am still expecting that in a future not so long from now, PCs as we know them will be no more. They will become something akin to Thin or Zero clients, and the bulk of the processing will be done in the cloud - for a subscription fee, of course. The arrival of streaming game services more than reinforces this idea.

  14. This initiative means nothing till they held the biggest polluters, which are the large manufactures, accountable for cleaning up after making the devices. User are usually going to stick with main stream fancy brands, the manufactures should be held responsible for low lasting devices, and for not providing an easy way to fix the issue without needing a completely new phone (right to repair). They should be the one held accountable for reusing or decomposing the parts of old phone as general users don't have the right tools. 5 people reading their "eco rating" will never fix anything.

  18. When I hear stuff like this about Windows, it brings back those warm and fuzzy feelings when Whistler leaks and Longhorn leaks would happen. Now having rare builds doesn't have the same hook, since they dish them out through testing channels for anyone who wants them. Of course, I am sure that holding back UI bits in very much on purpose.

  19. Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase set for Sunday, June 13

I see some people calling the 90min time as short. But I believe it's the sweet spot, the event is digital so you can move through it quicker, have gameplay video after video with little talking between. I also expect them to have smaller Inside Xbox deep dives into things they show after the event like always, where they talk to the developers directly. I don't know how many titles they'll show, as long as what they do show has people interested it'll be a success. *Edit* It's also been pointed out that the planet in the picture is the exact same one from the original Starfield teaser video. Starfield confirmed at the show now.

I'd be interested to know why they chose a CD, too. It's probably because the existing MSI icon used that. It's to still maintain some familiarity. I'm sure the new MSIX icon won't have a CD.

LMAO what a bunch of utter drivel ! You are only worried about Islam but will run away with tail between your legs when Genocide of Kashmiri Hindus or plight of Hindu minorities in Paksitan is mentioned. There is absolutely no unrest that Muslims are on streets demanding any rights. All the unrest is drummed up by Twitter/FB/WhatsApp alike. Don’t play victim card which you guys are infamous for.

  26. What a shock. Thanks for sharing. You are welcomed. It does what I need and don't want to send data back to MS or Google. But you're sending data to Mozilla, which in turn sells it to Google, in other words, this is why one of the two reasons why Google sponsors Firefox' existence - to buy their collected data and the other reason is to have an inferior browser as competition so they can't be called a monopoly. If you want to keep your data away from Google or Microsoft, use Brave, Vivaldi, Kinza or Cent Browser.

  34. Maybe a return to something more like WIndows-7? The concept of a simple, intuitive, easy to use, reliable OS seems to have been forgotten over the past 6-8 years. Tacking on all sorts of features has made Windows-10 bloated, non-intuitive, and much less reliable. Needless complexity creates needless problems.

  35. I'm not excited. They didn't even finish the current visual overhaul of Windows, and they break the visual consistency with their own products such as Office. They are also screwing up keyboard navigation and shortcuts worse than it already is, screwing up efficiency as well as task automation in GUI apps. I feel like this will be more of the same decline. "welcome every creator who is looking for the most innovative, new, open platform to build[,] distribute[,] and monetize applications. We look forward to sharing more very soon." They're probably excited because this new distribution and monetization framework probably involves MS taking a cut from transactions.

  36. After all those years, Windows 10 is fine and I like it but it is still half baked. The interface is a mix between the old and modern interface. For example, the control panel, still exists and it still has functionalities that the modern interface lacks.

  37. It'll be interesting to see what they're up to. I hope that it'll signal a change in attitude in Microsoft towards their own platform(s). Given how little Nadella has cared about anything other than Azure I'm almost surprised to hear that he even uses Windows.

  39. Two things I want with Windows 10, an overall new interface as this one is getting long in the tooth now and consolidation of a lot of settings like we see with the control panel and all settings which is just confusion and messy.

  40. It sounds like they're ready to drop the "10" and go with new branding. He just calls it "Windows" a few times, and we all know these things are went over multiple times so the wording is intentional. Now they either drop the 10 and it's just Windows 21H2, or they finally decided to go to 11. Or maybe we're going to bring back some whacky names like XP or Vista again? You never know with them. Personally I'd like to see a return to version numbers that make some sort of sense. So 11.0.xxxxx. Then maybe we can actually start to use x.1.xxxxx numbering again? Some of these version numbers they have, like for apps for example are just bonkers, it's some weird miss-mash of version+date all in some crazy long string.

New monitors. I finally got rid of my 3x 27" HP 27FW 1080p monitors (donated to local school) for 3x MSI 27" Optix MAG272CQR 1440p 165hz. I was apprehensive about curved monitors at first. I think a single 27" curved monitor would be hard to get along with, but for a triple monitor setup arch and head swivel feels quite natural. Also, going from 75hz to 165hz is a game changer. Everything is buttery smooth and my 2080 Ti stills seems to have the grunt to run beyond 4K res playable. Before and after below, rest of setup on bottom of page 3. Before: After:

It has been an exceptionally long time Since I have posted one of these, I wouldn't say its RGB, its all Purple Specs: CPU :Ryzen 9 3950X RAM: 64GB DDR4 3200 Storage: 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus Graphics Card: Nvidia 3090 FE Cooler, NZXT Kraken Monitor: Samsung Odyssey G9 (49in Curved Ultrawide 5120x1440) Chassis: NZXT H510 Mobo: Gigabyte X570 Pro Wifi (ITX) I started with an NZXT H1 chassis but they were a fire hazard. Also pictured is a purple 3D printed nut and bolt I use for Sag stability on the graphics card. I have also created a vinyl skin for the window of the Kirin Tor logo from World of Warcraft.

  49. You're correct in that it deals when candidates and not politicians in general. That's why those provisions in the Bill wouldn't have applied to Trump. He wasn't a candidate when he was banned. However, later in the bill the wording for much of the rest of it extends to all Floridians. Candidates or not. Starting on page 14, line 404. Didn't Trump move to Florida recently permanently which would make him a Floridian? Yes, but that wouldn't have prevented him from being banned, etc. Only candidates get that protection as long as they are candidates or a journalistic enterprise. For normal Floridians, including Trump, there is just reporting and honesty in advertising standards. Can still get banned. Content can still be removed. Social media platforms: - Must publish the standards used to determine how they censor/deplatform/shadow ban - Must apply censorship/deplatforming/shadow banning in a consistent manner - Must inform each users of rule/term/agreement changes with 30 day notice - May not censor/shadow ban a user’s content/material or deplatform a user without notification - Must allow users access to who was provided or shown the user’s content/posts - Must categorize algorithms used for post-prioritization/shadow banning - Must allow a user to opt out of post-prioritization/shadow banning algorithm categories and re-offer this opt-out yearly - Must allow sequential or chronological posts/content - Must provide users with an annual notice on the use of algorithms for post-prioritization/shadow banning - Must allow a user who has been deplatformed to access/retrieve all of the user’s information/content/material/data for at least 60 days after banning - May not take any action to censor/deplatform/shadow ban a journalistic enterprise based on the content of its publication or broadcast - May not deplatform a political candidate as long as they are a candidate - Must provide a way to identify political candidates. i.e. Blue Checkmark

  50. Satya Nadella says he's "incredibly excited about the next generation of Windows"

They should go with Linux. Windows 21.04 Call me old fashioned, I miss simple version numbers. There would've been nothing wrong with having 10.1, 10.2 etc. Going with something like 21H1 does make sense because new Windows versions are released twice a year and that format tells you exactly when that version was released. Using 10.1, 10.2, etc makes more sense with software that doesn't have a set release schedule. Saying that, at end of the day... Version numbers don't really matter all that much. It's not really advertised to consumers and for 99% of people, they just know are running Windows 10 (or Windows). Us more advanced users can figure out whatever version scheme a developer is using.
