The light turned yellow...
+hedleigh and one other reacted to Mindovermaster for a topic
The light turned yellow, just in front of him. He did the right thing and stopped at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection. The tailgating woman behind him was furious and honked her horn, screaming in frustration, as she missed her chance to get through the intersection. As she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her window and looked up into the face of a very serious police officer. The officer ordered her to exit her car with her hands up. He took her to the police station where she was searched, fingerprinted, photographed and placed in a holding cell. After a couple of hours, a policeman approached the cell and opened the door. She was escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer was waiting with her personal effects. He said, ''I'm very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, giving the guy in front of you the finger and cursing at him. I noticed the 'What Would Jesus Do' bumper sticker, the 'Choose Life' licence plate holder, the 'Follow Me to Sunday-School' bumper sticker, and the chrome-plated Christian fish emblem on the trunk, so naturally ...... I assumed you had stolen the car.''2 points -

Why do these polls always have 'refuse' as the only option to not get the jab? What about people that can't get one due to medical conditions or those of us that CHOSE to wait a bit longer for actual approval? Brony reacted to Wam7 for a topic
I live a few miles from here and know the estate well. Growing of illegal cannabis farms is a particular problem in this area and the aerial thermal scans from police drones or helicopters picked up the heat coming from this building. I know a guy who had his back garden shed raided by police for the same reason, suspecting he was growing cannabis. He was doing exactly the same and just mining with several computers in his shed. The difference was he was paying his electricity bill so it didn't make the national/international news.1 point -

stadii reacted to Gotenks98 for a topic
Just guessing, but I think that 99% portable will still be 720p. Not only because on such a small display it doesn't matter, but also because of backwards compatibility with the base Switch. Docked will be pushed to 1080p with a 2160p upscaler. higher resolution = you'll need bigger battery life why people want that kind of thing, i don't buy portable console to have 1 hour battery life 720p is more than enough, having something more powerhungry for when it's docked doesn't worth it if you'll sacrifice the portability aspect of the PORTABLE console Seriously if anyone is serious about switch on the go, they are going carry a battery pack around or power adapter. So the shorter battery life is really not an issue.1 point -

Except that this is PRECISELY how 99% of diseases make the NATURAL jump from animals to people (and even back again). from https://www.npr.org/2021/05/27...be-investigated-expert-says" rel="external nofollow">https://www.npr.org/2021/05/27...be-investigated-expert-says "On why natural transmission from animals to humans is still the dominant theory for the origins of COVID-19" "This is really 99% of the time the source of emerging infectious diseases, whether you talk about HIV or Zika or Ebola, the original SARS, MERS. I mean, you keep going and going. But all of these have been the result of zoonotic spillovers — so, spillover of viruses from animals into humans. And this is what we've seen with the prior coronaviruses so probabilistically, it's far more likely that this would be a spillover event as well." So, what you have said is just rightwing conspiracy nonsense drivel. The experts have now told you otherwise. Stop peddling the crapola. And the more people invade the wildlife habitat for their own gain, the more likely this is going to happen again. And again... What virus comes next, and how soon after this pandemic, is just everybody's guess and for the people who study all this their fear.... We should (again) invest heavily in 'warning posts' and international, combined research, like we did after SARS and MERS. But people's interests and memory are fickle creatures, so we tend to forget what happened and complain about costs. And social media are the worst in providing information, it traps people in bubbles and unfortunately only fuels their misconceptions.1 point -

Because any thing that had to do with Trump was cool to hate on. Not just cool, but correct too. The man was a psychopath bent on tearing America apart. But hey, that's just my opinion. What you say about Trump is exactly what the left generally does. they destroy everything they touch. there is a reason why a lot of common people like Trump because they can see he's for the USA unlike the godless left. just look at all of the leftist run cities which are pretty much full of crime and they want open borders and, as usual, gas prices are on the rise again which was no surprise. the common person just gets screwed with the left in power, especially in fairly recent memory where they have went off the rails and we all know the 2020 election was not legitimate either. the left will call it a conspiracy theory but if they had nothing to hide why would they be interfering with the audits etc. the media is corrupt (which are largely left) along with social media censoring conservatives as they fear us because the truth is on our side. the left is getting to have more in common with the hammer and sickle than they do the USA which is why people are so divided right now as those on the right see the left is not headed in a positive direction and those on the left are brainwashed by the media etc to think the left is the good guys when the exact opposite is true. but like I have said before, someone who can't see the basic big picture through the lens of Christianity is a lot more likely to be blind and go with the flow of whatever is popular in the world at any given time regardless if it's moral or not and the left sides with disorder over order with abortion being a very basic test of morality as look at how each political party labels the issue... 'pro-life' vs 'pro-choice'. one (pro-life) tells the issue like it truly is, while the other (pro-choice) sugar coats a immoral/evil act under the guise of a choice. someone who finds life to be disposable at it's most innocent stage, in a mothers womb, inevitably goes off the rails after enough time passes and that's the case with the modern left where disorder is praised and order is rejected etc.1 point -

I think there are a few reasons why it matters. First, the truth would put a stop to a lot of conspiracy theories. Most importantly, it would give an opportunity for lessons to be learned so that this doesn't happen again. Personally, I don't care where it originated from. I am pretty sure its wrong and even if it was a lab leak, I doubt it was a man-made virus. Most probably they were studying it and someone got the virus. That person then transferred the virus outside the lab and it spread out. But I know conspiracy theorist will have a field day. How can you be so naïve? CCP loves you already. Viruses just don’t randomly infect people that easily in a lab unless manipulated with “Gain of Function”. I am not saying they created it with the intention of unleashing on the world but it was created for purposes best known to them. Cure cancer/HIV or even as Bio warfare. That no one will know. The fact you're invoking the spectre of the Communist Party of China (CPC, btw) proves you have political reasons behind your reasoning to pin this on a lab, rather than a desire to find out the truth of the matter.1 point -
Facebook will no longer remove posts claiming Covid-19 was man-made
ad47uk reacted to pickytech for a topic
A lot of people are confusing the idea of "escaped from a lab" and "man made". It is possible, through some gain-of-function research, that a coronavirus was being modified and it escaped due to an accident. That would be a man-made virus that leaked. Ignoring the accident, this type of research was documented and published by the presumed leak location. It is also possible that while studying a coronavirus, that it escaped, without any man-made modifications. And it is still also possible that an unmodified coronavirus was intentionally released (man-made or not). And it is finally still possible that it really was just bad luck and the virus jumped from a bat in a wet market. All four hold some merit especially in light of the origin and the original discrediting of it really only served to help the country of origin. Separately, the fact that this was as a conspiracy theory a year ago, triggering account bans and censorship, and is now returning is exactly why entrusting social media companies with this type of information control is absolutely crazy. They did not know the truth then, and they do not know the truth now and the same is inherently true for all of the things that they have taken it upon themselves to peddle. It makes me extremely happy to not have social media accounts and more people need to get off these platforms to bring back control and rational conversations.1 point -

Upgrading gaming notebook with new SSD and RAM
Max reacted to Tantawi for a topic
Only 256GB? (I looked at the wrong spec sheet!), then that SSD upgrade totally makes sense 👍 Make sure you get one with no heatsink (or make sure that it can be removed) to be able to fit inside the laptop. And also note that you will not get the full PCIe Gen 4 speeds you quoted for either of the drives as that laptop is limited to PCIe Gen 3, so you are looking for a maximum of 3000-3500 for both reads and writes, still much faster of course than the one you have but as you said real world performance differens will be neglectable in Windows and everyday usage unless you do a lot of large files copying everyday (files larger than 1GB). Game loading will be noticable faster though so definitely go for it! You will need an external drive to copy the data you need from the old drive as this laptop will not take an extra M2 drive. For RAM yes I agree with you, that is ideal (but also most expensive), the alternative I mentioned worked fine for me for many laptops, but your milage might differ so go with what you are comfortable with :)1 point
