  1. Excited and afraid. I hope they do an Apple and Google. Announce and release what is shown in a beta next day or week. And not a bunch of cool mock-ups and designer vids that get half implemented over the next 2 years with ‘it will will be a long journey blablablabla’. They had years of time.

  3. Firefox 89 arrives with controversial Proton interface

Nothing controversial really. I've been using Proton interface through entire Firefox 88 life cycle using tweaks and it has grown on me. Only thing that mildly annoys me is how tall the titlebar/tab bar is and consequently how tall minimize, maximize and close buttons are. Other than that it looks very modern and responsive. If you don't like it, Proton can be disabled for now using my Firefox Tweaker: https://rejzor.wordpress.com/firefox-tweaker/

  5. If someone actually ends up paying this amount of money for a nugget, this just represents what's wrong with the world right now. A lot of rich people wasting money every day when there are so many people living with difficulties.

  8. WSJ has said that he is in talks with other platforms about licencing fees if he decides to join them. Which sounds exactly like the kind of thing Trump would do. Why host a personal blog with less traffic when he could go to a different platform reaching a larger audience, and make a quick buck out of it at the same time?

Another company gets sucked into the "change for the sake of change" mantra. Why do so many otherwise smart companies slavishly follow what Microsoft does?

  12. That police officer has some balls! Well done to him, who knows how this would have played out in the U.S.? I can't find any news online about it other than some videos and on Twitter this is the oldest I can find https://trapholizay.com/damn-french-police-officer-sneaks-up-takes-down-woman-armed-with-a-double-barrel-shotgun/ It's amazing how we only get to hear about it if there's a death, but not when police bravery like this happens! And that in a country that is dealing with Jihadi terrorism more than any other western European country.

  13. It's optics IMHO. The "blog" was getting less hits than PetFinder and that's not acceptable in his mind, aka looser. So, instead being a laughingstock of a "blog" with low visits, take it down and redirect to doing something "bigger".

  18. Huawei introduces the new MatePad Pro HarmonyOS tablet

Looks like a tacky Chinese iPad Pro clone. Oh wait, it is! And the "magnetic keyboard attachment" is a complete Apple Magic Keyboard rip off. Huawei's R&D costs must be non-existent when they let Apple do all the work for them.

Republicans don’t believe in accountability for the impeachable stuff he’s done or inciting violence. He got away with things for too long and should have been removed way earlier.

I actually went to the website when it was all there for a bit of fun. I can say, in my opinion, he's nuts but for the joke brigade, it should have been left up as it really makes you realize just how bad for America and the rest of the world he was.

  25. Microsoft should really focus on improving the OS/System, and leave these content consumption features to devs. There are plently of system tray *apps* that display everything from news+weather+sports+finance to resource usage to emails/todo list /pomodro timers, and usually better implemented than this. This looks like MS is desperately trying to shove Edge+MSN stuff to users, just like they do with Edge homepage. There was already News/Weather apps already, with Live Tiles for people who care.

Fortunately, being in the US, I don't have to worry about our companies being intrusive or acting haphazardly with my privacy. ...one sec, just gotta turn off Amazon Sidekick real fast. Then I just gotta find a lawyer to help read these constantly changing terms of service...

  33. Naturally. it's just insane to spend that kind of $ on something like this. it's like people are obsessed with always trying to buy stuff that they don't even vaguely need. I get people like to buy some nice stuff and all, but stuff like this makes no sense. they should just sit back and relax knowing they are set for life as anyone who can drop $40k on something like this has WAYYY to much money as that's around a years salary for many people and it's on a fricking chicken nugget with a weird shape to it. lol

  40. Firefox 89 arrives with controversial Proton interface

It certainly is controversial. LOL I tried the beta about a month ago but went back to the release channel after a couple of days. Maybe they did some refinements since than but it doesn't look like it. I didn't like how flat and bland it looked like with little in the way of visual clues. It was literally hard on my eyes. Sure you can revert some of tweaks but you know that won't be allowed for long. I am not sure the point of wasting time on this. Change for change sake and not with any actual improvements. I wish they would put resources into stuff that matters like PWAs. Firefox really wants to be the browser that doesn't support them? It's only controversial in that a certain subset of nerds will scream bloody murder whenever a UI that they're using changes. It doesn't matter if it gets better, or worse, it's as predictable as the sun that some minority group will be outraged while the majority go on adapting quickly and then enjoying the new UI. Firefox was looking tired, dated, and cluttered compared to the likes of Chrome / Edge. It was definitely time for a refresh. Imagine someone rearranges your workshop in the middle of the night, and replaces all your tools. The screwdrivers now has a fancy ergonomical shape. Okay I guess. The drawers have changed shape, and nothing is where it was. I suppose the new layout makes logical sense, but you're used to how things were. Instead of pliers and side cutters, there's now some multitool. Yea it does the same thing, but it's weird to use. This is what using Firefox is like, and it happens with annoying regularity. Just last month they removed the "Show image" function, and locked the bugzilla report. I use Firefox for many (too many) hours in the day. It's the software I use the most. I've used it since it was called Phoenix, but I'm very very tired of their treatment of power users, and it's been going on for many years. I'm beginning to think I'm affected by Stockholm syndrome, so I've spent some time today looking at Vivaldi.

  41. Firefox 89 arrives with controversial Proton interface

OK, let's not get ridiculous now. That's not rediculous. Same thing happens whenever they change something, people go on the bugzilla to request an option to revert back to how it was and in comes incompetent mozilla dev #48 saying that everyone who doesn't agree that the new decision is the best thing since sliced bread is wrong, shortly thereafter it gets locked. Rinse and repeat You can say you didn't like an UI change (like I have) but that doesn't make Mozilla hostile to it's users. One Mozilla dev does not speak for all of Mozilla. I would say users are way more hostile... Most users are very entitled of the free software they use.
