But of course! How could they?! Those functionalities are written directly in assembly, there's no way to make any of them work in anything other than ARM! /s Seriously, are they saying that a fully specked Mac Pro is unable to perform OCR (I guess, that Live Text thing) or render the darn globe and detailed cities in Maps? Yep, big set of balls they have, some courage. I'm between 🤣 and 🤦🏻‍♂️ and ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (thinking, yeah, it's Apple) and 🤬 because WTF man...

  6. This UK farmer is using cow dung power to farm cryptocurrency

Agreed, making crypto via 'Green Energy' is just a side-step from the truth. If I divert 100 windmills from the grid to prioritise crypto mining and say 'My hands are clean, I just run on green energy, look at me'. Plus, I'm pretty sure the government has supplied grants or incentives to employee this low carbon energy generation with the expectation that this reduces the fossil fuel demand on the farm or the area. I know most people will argue "I'm just taking what I can get" but it's sad that this seems to be lauded when it should be vilified as it's a closed loop system (It produces no wealth or product other than for the farmer himself).

  9. Multiplayer only? Pass. I casually game. I don't sit there for hours & hours at a time in multiplayer honing my sniping skills or whatever - multiplayer for me is just an exercise in frustration since I'm basically dead before I enter the map. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the DOOM remake, and Half-Life 2 were the last great first person shooters on PC for me. They had compelling stories with twists and were entertaining to play. I loved HALO and RESISTANCE: FALL OF MAN on the consoles for the same reason. So to see these multiplayer games take over the market is disheartening.

Google is even more half-arsed with it's platforms then MS. Google had the chance of getting a VR platform in place like Apple, but botched it, and now it's.. well.. We did some projects with it, but decided to stay with Apple devices for this. Easier to handle for the existing hardware and tools.

  28. But then the recent quarterly reports make it abundantly clear that services are the future for Apple. Their stance will likely change. Who would have thought they'd open Facetime for other users? Not in the wildest dreams of Time Cook even a few years ago. Markets change and Apple will have to reconsider its decisions. They haven't really opened it up. You can still only access Facetime by link on Android and Windows and you can't even initiate a Facetime call to anyone. It's half useless if you can't do anything on your end.

  29. Solar Power finally kicked off today.

Just to update in case anyone at all has interest.. Been a couple of months past a year now.. And have uploaded all my generation to https://pvoutput.org Seems pretty slick for tracking your production and comparison of others with sim sized installs and in the same region of the world as you. I am liking the trend in year 2 so far where first 2 months have surpassed last years production. And last 3 months this year has exceeded estimate of production. Another useful tool I found for estimating what your system should produce for size and location, etc. https://pvwatts.nrel.gov/pvwatts.php And I hit a new all time high production day on 5/29/21 of 51.544 kWh.. I believe the increase in production for Apr and May this year could be partly due at least to my neighbor having cut down a tree that was casting shade on portion of panels in the early morning. If I can maintain my current average for june so far I will surpass estimate this month as well and easy break the 1000 kWh mark. Sure hoping either produce more excess over the summer and fall this year than last year, or we have a sunny winter for 2021.. Ended up using way more electric than produced in Jan and Feb.. And did not have enough rollover to cover.. Another fun milestone is broke 10 MWh, Lifetime Total 10.70 MWh

  30. FBI-run encrypted messaging app snares hundreds of criminals worldwide

I'm always glad that criminals get caught. I like that they were caught by an fbi app. That's incredible. My concern becomes why this story went public and tipped off the bad guys. Had they already been made? In reading the bbc article, the FBI is going to present more data. I am guessing that they had been discovered. Overall, it is good that these people have been caught. Justice may move slowly, but it does move.

Even after the comments load into view and you scroll back up and click the comment bubble, it won't work. Funnily enough it does work if you click the comment bubble from the main page summary as a guest. So I am going with, it's a bug that affects guests and Tier2 subscribers, for now.

  35. Jupiter's Legacy cancelled

It's a shame - It was one that I liked better than most other Netflix things these days. However, although it was well acted, the story was a bit messy and the build-up really was a let down towards the end. All the psychic powers stuff going into the reconstructed dead 'clone' brain was silly and confusing. It just wasn't written/adapted well for a series.

  38. Solar Power finally kicked off today.

so this has been my costs for the last year with comed There is a cost for just being connected to the electric company.. Last year it was like 16$, but looks like it has gone down to like 14.50ish this year.. Some sort of credit? So for example here is my bill from last month You can see how much I sent to the grid, and how much I pulled from the grid... Since I sent way more than I used this month. That sits in my account, rolled over - so if I do not produce as much as I use next month I have that many kwh saved up to pay for what I used in the month(s) I do not produce as much as I use. I don't have a battery so always pull from grid at night. And if cloudy, rainy, snow etc.. and not producing as much as using then yes it pulls from the grid. As I mentioned in a previous post - in the first year I saved a few hundred from the year before.. If you add up total cost of solar and what paid electric company. Now time will only tell if was a good choice for the long run, since I didn't buy my system I leased it. Not your best choice for most bang for your buck economically that is for sure, but it was zero out of pocket cost.. I saw it as just locking into a specific cost for electricity, for the time of the lease. So from my point of view I hope electric costs go way up so will be saving more money. And not have to worry about any cost for repairs if something breaks.. But I am happy with choice so far - now will I still be happy in a few years? Not sure - if electric costs drop into the dirt then might not be a good choice.. But the system running is not my problem, so don't have to worry about that. And if doesn't produce what they say it should produce - then they have to pay me the difference.. So I saw it as a way to lock in price of electric and not have to worry. And pretty much lock my monthly cost to a flat cost every month.. Before summer months were killers, I have had a bill well over 200$ for a few months in the summer. Hoping this year I build up more of a rollover to for the winter months.. ###### thing is April 1 they zero your account.. I had 300 some kwh extra in march this year, but they zeroed that out.. Bastards! I think your roll over should just continue to rollover the electric company zero'ing that out is BS if you ask me. Or have a more sunny days this winter.. I would of preferred to have just bought the system outright.. But budget committee (wife) wouldn't let me.. So this was a way to get to play with solar without any out of pocket costs.. Happy to answer any questions you might have - just ask. Keep in mind that other states or other regions of the world - how they deal with net metering or solar users could be way different.

  41. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram... Name as many as you want, but from their inception to this day I still refuse to call them social "media". They are, by my definition (and for some, their own), social networks - and I treat them as such, not more, not less. The "media" part is not all that important, I do not indulge in political debates, nor do I follow or give any of my attention to any and all accounts that do not belong to a single person - friend, foe, ex or whomever. It's easy to get lost in the modern age of "information at fingertips" and forget that news reporting and journalism is a profession that is, and should, be done by people of at least some professionalism - not by politicians themselves, or any government agencies/personnel/representatives in any way, shape and/or form. Change is good, progress is good - but sometimes, some things are best left untouched and "how they used to be". ... Or maybe I'm just getting old.

  44. Should Fauci be banned too using the same criteria? You guys don't understand how science works, do you? Scientists aren't God. They don't know everything exactly from the start. It works on trial and error. Further, most of what Dr. Fauci said has actually stayed consistent. I'm not sure why you hate him so much other than being told to do so by a politician. I happen to understand science very well, but I'm sure you know better. I never said I hated Fauci either. He spread as much or more misinformation as you claim Trump did. Some of it was admitted by him to be on purpose too. A lot of what was labeled crazy conspiracy is actually starting to look like there is some truth to it now. Anybody that questions anything is labeled a nut and banned. Wait until it is something that you say that Facebook decides that you shouldn't say! You got a source for, "He spread as much or more misinformation as you claim Trump did." and "Some of it was admitted by him to be on purpose too."? Quit with the sources.. This is a stupid internet forum. He said initially masks don't need to be worn to stop people from buying them, so health care workers could get N95 masks. WHen asked later about it later he admitted that was the reason. There are also lots of emails coming out now that show homemade masks were worthless and they wanted us to wear them anyway. Don't question any of this or you are denying science though! There was a serious scarcity of mask to he said it so that doctors can wear the mask as they have to deal with patients. Can you link the study that says "homemade masks were worthless" ? emails can be from anyone, i can wright email saying whatever i want. if there is a peer reviewed paper i would like a link... (and yeah peer reviewed paper is usually science which i don't think you would know) I can use common sense Well, there goes your argument. Common sense is nothing more than your own prejudices in action. Science > common sense

  49. I'd suggest watching "The Social Dilemma" on Netflix. The "Like" button has had an adverse affect on people growing up these days, starting to weigh their self worth based on how many likes they get on a social media site. In that case, parents need to do a better job of raising their kids. Teach them that their self-worth is not based on how many likes they get on their social media posts. The problem is many parents have not learned effective techniques to mitigate or prevent some of the negative side effects of growing up in today's society where so much of child to adolescent development takes place in an online world. The experience of growing into a healthy, productive, functioning adult today is vastly different compared to 20 or 30 years ago.
