It'll be interesting to see how this turns out. I haven't gotten a new gpu yet because these current prices are insane. By the time they come down we're talking RTX 4000 and RT 7000 series GPU will be ready. Might just hold out even longer with my 1070 at this point. I have a XSX so I'll be switching over to more console gaming for a while.4 points -

Yeah, with a 1070 I suspect you will be good enough for a while (probably years to come assuming a person is basing things more on playable standards and not expecting perfect performance etc), especially if your doing around 1080p gaming. Yeah, only real reason I was looking for a upgrade this year was to get some RT ability for future gaming. I'll just wait, paying these silly marked up prices is not worth it atm.2 points -

Nvidia to drop Game Ready Driver updates for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 starting this October

I still don't know why they had to go and ruin the beautiful UI that Windows 7 had. All they had to do was just add new features on top of Windows 7 and call it Windows 8 without changing it visually, same with Windows 10 - just add new features on top and retain the nice looking UI. Right now Windows 10's UI is ugly, boring, blocky, it looks all over the place - Settings and other things look so oversized as if you're not clicking them with a mouse, but tapping them with a finger, it just doesn't make sense. Not to mention how ugly the UI is with the sharp corners, it looks like a temporary placeholder for a Pre-Early-Alpha test for a UI. And finally - Windows 10 is so unstable and these elements written in the UWP language or whatever it is called constantly break - disable Cortana or whatever and then your Start Menu stops indexing and newly installed apps don't appear in search results despite being there. Then you install StartIsBack++ and search works as perfectly as it did in Windows 7. I still won't forget that dick move that Microsoft did during Windows 8 - when people found out they can just copy the Start Menu files from Windows 7 into 8, edit some registry or whatever and get a fully functioning Start Menu, then when Microsoft found out, it was like a week or a month later, they released a patch so this stopped working... Imagine what kind of jerks they are - they don't like it when users make the OS work the way they want and is easier for them... I'm waiting for this Windows 11 on June 24 to see what is the big deal and will they actually create an UI that is not butt ugly. You can be disappointed now if you want, because nothing will really change I guess so. I just miss how awesome XP and 7 were and I still can't wrap my head around how we had that and we downgraded to the trash that is Windows 10.2 points -

Windows 11 might be the next major Windows version from Microsoft after all
margrave and one other reacted to mrp04 for a topic
One of the reasons to change it from 10 to 11, in my mind, is that it would allow for them to redo/change the servicing/support cycle for it. If you keep it as Windows 10 you're still stuck to the current life cycle they've been doing since 2015. If it's Windows 11, well, that's different now. Personally I think if they do go with Windows 11, we're going to see single, probably H2, updates each year with 1 year support for home/pro while ent/edu gets 2 years. Or they just call it Windows 11 and don't change the cycle at all, who knows? Or they decided Windows 10 will be "the last version of Windows" when Apple was using version 10 seemingly forever. Apple recently decided macOS will be version 11. Now Windows will, too? Hmmm.2 points -

I think this will be a huge change for the OS too. How will it decide to give the work to the big or little cores? I imagine at first that it will work similar to preferred cores now and favor big first, then little if the bigs are full. Having a flag for threads to run on little sounds interesting, but existing apps won't have that.1 point -

It is, but I'm not sure the first generation is going to be any good. The idea that the put a task on a specific CPU then time it and transfer it if it takes too long or is too fast, seems like it's going to add a lot of overhead. Think I'll wait for gen 2 or 3 before getting this that's a good point you make about overhead. Perhaps this why AMD made 3D V-cache. the additional bandwidth may help https://www.neowin.net/news/am...aks-zen-4-details-and-more/1 point -

Looks like China is in a similar peak era as The Soviet Union was in 1960s. China's government is not based on merit therefore average GDP per capita will remain far below average, when compared to first world countries. Economic problems will be blamed on external enemy. Cold War II will definitely intensify. Today, people have a chance to change regime when dictator dies from the old age. In future this chance will be gone. There is a chance that social engineering and atrocities committed in the past will pale when compared to what will happen in the future.1 point -

UK MPs ask Biden to drop Assange charges during G7 trip
BrianZ reacted to DeusProto for a topic
I was a fan of Assange until he became what the Russians refer to as a 'Useful Idiot' (at the very least, perhaps even an active collaborator) in Russian 'active measures' by the SVR and/or GRU to manipulate the American public during the federal 2016 election. Information was given to WikiLeaks by Russian government assets and/or operatives in their employ and the release was timed to have maximum impact on the election (the DNC hack perpetrated by those in the employ of the Russian government). Biden would be a fool to pardon someone who sought to undermine the integrity of our electoral process and likely seeks to continue doing so. Notice how WikiLeaks didn't have any RNC data or emails by GOP officials. Gee, I wonder why. Or how about posting leaked data that puts the Russian government and especially Putin and his cronies in a bad light? That won't ever happen so long as Assange is at the helm of that organization. I stopped liking WikiLeaks in general when Assange decided to use it as a political weapon. I don't get the sense that Assange is a bumbling idiot, so I am leaning towards him knowingly releasing that data knowing full well the effect it would have and playing right into the hands of the SVR and/or GRU operatives that supplied him with said information. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if one day Wikileaks themselves gets Wikileak'd and emails, etc expose that Assange blackballed the release of vetted data that compromises the Russian government or its UIs and active collaborators. Though I'm sure he GPG encrypted said information and kept it for insurance purposes in case the American GOP ever bites the hand that feeds.1 point -

On the flip side of that, why should any company provide you something for free? Because if you replace the OS with something like "Photoshop" - that's how ludicrous and "entitled" you sound. Because I work as a senior infrastructure consultant on Microsoft and Azure products every single day? Which means I absolutely need the tools necessary to do my job. Can a cab driver drive without a car? Do you think that Ford donates those cars to the cabbies for free? Nope, but the cab company provides the cars to its employees/drivers. Get it now or do you need me to hand it to you with a spoon? Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. Either way, in that case the company is paying. Just as your company would pay for Windows.
