I'm no Apple fan, but this baseless attack on them is about as pathetic as it gets. Bye bye, Gizmodo. https://t.co/GPJUftP3ws

I love old software. I still play SimTower in a Windows Me Virtual Machine. So, a few years ago I installed the After Dark screen saver in Windows 7, it worked, but no control panel, need to do everything in regedit. Tried it again with Windows 8, still works. Tried again in Windows 10, still works, no control panel. So, I figured I could get the control panel to work. Sounds easy, it isn't. MS removed the ability to add those old tabs to the display control panel. So, I figured what if there was an old control panel that hasn't changed over the years, could I add the After Dark control panel tab to that? So, I tried System. (aka sysdm.cpl) No dice, you can't mix and match 32 and 64 bit control panels. Then after searching, I found that MS includes 32 bit control panels in the c:\windows\sysWOW64 directory. Fired up sysdm.cpl from there, and look at that. My toasters are flying again.

Another major software developer is dumping support for WinXP, and everyone at work is having a hissy fit about it. Perhaps my coworkers forgot what year it was?

Hi Mando, Thank you for the offer. I received a call from the scammer again, trying to suck me into giving him control of the computer. Guess what I told him to do? Now my screen goes black at times, and remains so for several minutes. The last time I had to kill power and reboot to get running again. As you have a good rep on NEOWIN, I’ll trust you to help me if you can.

2018 predictions: Microsoft closes Cortana, decouples it from Windows 10, and partners with Amazon for a third rate Alexa app that isn't integrated into the OS. Microsoft removes movies from the Windows Store and closes the Movies and TV app. Microsoft doesn't release any new Surface products. Surface line gradually decreases in mind share and market share. At least one major app developer pulls their app from the decaying Windows Store. Probably Twitter or Instagram. Consumer interest in Windows 10 further declines. Satya Nadella gives some BS speech about the future of Microsoft being Azure. Somehow Microsoft'd board is still satisfied with their CEO.

What would be nice if every nation in this world tried to get along with every other nation and spread kindness and love and not hate. This has been the nature of humanity since time has begun and it is time for the world to come together as one and be peaceful before it is too late.

Well, I tried Windows 10 Mobile on my Lumia 1520 again. After a week of use, it's convinced me . . . to get an iPhone. On Sunday morning, W10M froze twice . I tried to roll back and the process failed, and I was barely able to get the phone started again. The fewer number of apps never bothered me since IMO Windows Phone 7 & 8.x were the best phone OSs I'd used. But the instability of the production version of 10 just killed it for me. Since it wasn't usable on my existing phone, I certainly wasn't going to pay for a new phone running 10.
