XboxLive 2.0 out!

Recommended Posts

It was delayed, Microsoft originally said it would be out at the end of last month, then it was changed to the end of this month, and wound up coming out closer to the middle.

Anyhow I checked it out, looks pretty cool, and while it's nothing to be overly excited about, it does add some new features and it's free so I can't complain.

Microsoft didn't say it would be out last month, they said they would be doing the new xsn stuff and checking your friends list on their site, which they did. The date was always September 12th.

Edit: I've just been told that if you have a keyboard adapter you can now use it to type in names for your ripped music ! :woot:

No the date was in August, and Microsoft changed the date to September very shortly after posting it. It's possible it was a typo but at one point the date was definately in August.

August was the maintenance/xsn stuff, it has always been septembed/ "later in the year" for the dashboard.

Live web was the xbox.com site redesign, xsn and friends list checking from your pc.

I am aware of that, and Live Now was the upgrade to the Xbox Live service, which as you can see from the quote was originally slated for August 25, and was now pegged back to mid September.

Not really impressed, voice chat is the only thing that's new along with the sucky UI.

I like it better than the old dash, but it could still be a lot better.

The main things they should work on:

* Skin the whole dash, not just the live part.

* Add CDDB to the music ripper, without having to buy the "music mixer" addon.

* Add the option to share saves with your friends via the memory manager.

* If possible (I'm sure it would be if they worked hard enough on it) add voice capability to all games, ie in old games you can hold down start for 10 seconds to open up your friends list and choose people to chat to when gaming, and in newer ones, just get developers to add it to the pause menu like in MM3 etc.

sweeet.. saw this while at work and i came home and did my update... kinda liking it but it's kinda slow too... crazy!

Only the live parts are a second slower, as it checks with live for each screen now.

Edit: there's a "trick" with the new dash. Press X, Y, X and it starts "floating"

I thought they said in xbl 2.0 that we would be able to d/l different skins and use them but obviously they've scrapped that or maybe I am wrong but I definately read it somewhere on their site couple months back

Doubt the thing on skins, they already payed for a new kickass ui so doubt that, for those who dont know, the new live update also updates your dashboard so a USB keyboard works with it, just tested it out with my cordless logitech keyboard worked like a charm, its perfect for changing song titles and what not, but sometimes the responce time is very slow, might need to press a key 3 times for it to show up :|, but if you want to use your keyboard you can order the PSO usb adapter free, http://www.xbox.com/en-US/pso2/keyboardadapter.htm

It would be awesome if they added some internet browsing to your box, but that probably would cost something....

They don't want to do it. They could have easily done it - the dreamcast did, but they want it to be mainly for games.

they leave all the cool stuff to the mod scene :)

You can already browse on your xbox and do pretty much anything you can do on your pc
