patch-rustem
If you're new to linux, and want the full GUI, I'd suggest you upgrade your ram to 128 MB and get Mandrake.
configure Veteran Posted September 11, 2003 Veteran Share Posted September 11, 2003 All distro should be able to run but it's up to what sort of software package you choose to install. Specially when it comes to having GUI on a slow computer, you might want to consider running a light-weight Windows Manager like Windows Maker and install other software that you need (ie. Konqueror, etc.) seperately You don't need to install the entire KDE package to use its application. You just need to install kdelib, and Qt. This is also similar to how you can get GNOME application to run without having to install the entire package. neowin_hipster
Well, there's a bunch of different distro's out there. IF you want a decent speed gui i suggest using openbox, window maker (Etc) as a gui. How comfortable are you with computers? If you're sorta new i'd suggest mandrake in the meanwhile. If you're a little more adventorous i'll point you towards something else. Gentoo probably isn't the best for this dude because it would take a long time to compile everything. It would be the lightest and fastest but slow to install. Really slow.
configure Veteran Posted September 11, 2003 Veteran Share Posted September 11, 2003 Slackware let you choose exactly what you want to be installed. Then again, that comes with a decrease in user-friendliness. You might want to consider it though, it's a nice distro :)
draugluin
slackware, or like the guy said, upgrade with some extra ram, and slap on mandrake.
