Office 2010 technet activations

Question

Yesterday my main test system's hard drive died so I had to re-install Windows and Office from my expired technet subscription. The licenses are supposed to be valid forever, and since there are no new products out since I let it lapse, I haven't renewed.

Oddly, Windows activated just fine, but my Office 2010 Professional Plus won't stating it is an invalid license. So I logged back in to my old Technet account to look up the license just in case I saved it improperly, and sure enough it matches. So I tried to activate by telephone, and it states it is an invalid key.

So I removed it and tried to install the individual applications, and all the 2010 licenses are coming up the same.

I removed everything and tried a 2007 license from the same Technet account, and it works just fine.

Has anyone had this issue present itself, or know why everything else would install and activate properly except the 2010 products?

Hi,

You might want to check this out.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/downloads/dd464803.aspx

Technet software is trial based and Microsoft can cancel keys.

Q. Will my product keys still work after my TechNet Subscription ends?

A. Yes. Product keys downloaded during the subscription period will continue to work after the subscription period has ended. Note in the event of piracy detection Microsoft reserves the right to cancel un-activated product keys at any time.

This was a key that was in use and was working fine until the drive died. There is no issue of piracy here, as I only use the licenses. No one else.

Same thing has happened here, office pro plus was working fine untill i renstalled today. invalid licence key. so i phoned up the activation line and they were kind enough to tell me my keys have been blocked. Cant blame them , i did let that subscription expire but have since re subscribed and the keys from my current subscription work just fine.

The replacement of your HDD could be the problem as Office checks your hardware during activation. Have you tried activating over the phone?

Unfortunately, I think you missed what the original poster said.

Did you read his post past the first line?

So I tried to activate by telephone, and it states it is an invalid key.

Oh bugger. Well the new methods they're employing do state they can cancel UN-activated keys... so I'm surprised that a previously-activated key was not accepted.

The keys don't deactivate or get cancelled (unless piracy is involved).

It sounds like you've installed from the wrong type of disc. I've caught myself with this before, you need to use the same disc (ISO) as the one from Technet's website.

I found trying to use my own retail or other OEM discs didn't work without... tweaks.
