Miyagi Son
if it is on more then one t1 line you should be fine. I find it hard to belive they split one t1 line to 3,200 computers
deadearth
I love our campus connection, I can easily get 800-900 KiloBytes/s from some websites I feel bad because when I go home, the cable internet feels slow. Oh and we have a student population of about 28,000. Of course not all live on campus.

D!ABOL!C
Our network backbone is an OC3 but I think we get a T1 equivalent per room

Isn't that what you mean by kbps? kbps = kilo bytes per second. 900kbps would be like a dsl line.
deadearth
Residential DSL lines I'm familiar with only get about 150 kbps. Cable gets about 250 kbps
Miyagi Son
Where do you live? Verizon dsl here is 1.5mbps and cable is like 4-7mbps You see the screenshot i posted of a speed test of my cable. Its sad to hear that 900kbps is fast where you are. deadearth
Yea, I see it. What sites can you download and get that fast of a speed off of? I see the 1.5 Mbps line on the speed test. I'm from around Charlotte, NC and the cable/dsl isn't near 1.5 Mbps.
Miyagi Son
That test is way off. Try using this. www.bandwithplace.com or http://speedcheck2.optonline.net/speedchec...speedcheck.html the opt online ones has it in kbps after the t1 mark it goes by megabytes. deadearth
The Bandwidth place is only showing about 2.1 mb/sec, it was a good bit higher last year when I ran that test. The speedcheck showed 4,071 kbps.
Frank
900kbps is fast there? I think he is saying he DONWLOADS from websites at that speed. Which is much higher then a regular 1MB DSL connection.

Avian
My dad works as the lead network engineer here at IU and I can tell you the monstrous amounts of bandwidth we have. We're basically directly connected to the AT&T backbone with direct fiber links to IUPUI and Internet 2.
