Is there a danger in the water we drink?

shouldn't the water where i live have chlorine in it as well? It is treated water. Does chlorine evaporate over time or? The water here isnt hard, or still, so it hasnt been sitting somewhere for that long.

but come to think of it, i never really smell chlorine in the water as i do in the city.

whats funny in a few months ago i got a letter in the mail from the rural water company stating they were cited or whatever for not treating the water properly. It didn't really state what the fine or mistreatment was, but it never said the water wasnt drinkable.

I guess its mandatory for them to send out such letters, even if they don't give any information.

In Ontario, 2500 people became sick and 7 people died when a small town's water supply wasn't properly treated with chlorine:

The chlorine shouldn't evaporate within the setting you are in. Could be the differing inherent minerals in your water tower's water.

In NZ we drink tap water. But us being Chinese immigrants drink boiled water, though I generally can't be bothered.

As for penicillin, unless you swallowed a bottle of penicillin, I don't really think you will accidentally get enough of it in the system to be a problem. Especially given it clears so fast. And whether it even kills your bacteria can be questioned. But I really don't think there is a huge chance of it just lying around.

Fun fact about fluorine is that although toxic we commonly use it in drugs, as a way to slow down metabolism, and you will get your fair share brushing teeth anyway. Always about the dosage. You can suicide by apples if you really want to. Or kill by water.

When you let water set out for around 24 hours, the chlorine is supposed to evaporate.

I do recommend a water distiller, if you can afford one.

You can never be sure what's in the tap water.

There is danger in everything on this planet. But i personally would touch any water from India, no offense :p

I live in a rural area, closest towns are 17 miles away and they're just small towns, so i have rural water, which they do have tiny water towers for here and there, but the water here is SUPER clean, and clear. Which is crazy. Much cleaner than the towns water, and other cities.

i never understood why this is. I actually have friends that come over and fill up jugs of water to take home with them to drink because its so clear and taste good.

Most cities take water from rivers and depending on how much that river is used can be quite polluted, especially if there are multiple cities on that same river. They can't possibly take water from ground water because if you have a million or two of people pumping water from ground water it'll run dry pretty quickly. The river water can get dirty and has to be treated.

Rural well water is pretty clean, especially if the well is properly constructed, not near heavily utilized land, and the water goes through some sort of filter before it ends up in your cup. It's you using that water, that's it, compared to millions of people reusing water constantly.

Know what water I'd love to have? BC water, they get their water fresh from glaciers.

I'm so glad that here in Amsterdam the tap water is of better quality than most bottled water like Spa, Chaudfontaine and whatnot. Saves a lot of hassle you have in other countries around the world. (Y)

i thought about getting some filter just to be safe, but really, the water taste good as it is. I suppose filtering any drinking water is a super smart, and safe thing to be doing.

I don't really see glacier water being safe. I bet they filter it as they would normal water, but i'd be a bit paranoid due to diseases and whatever being trapped away in them for millions of years, ha.

Well, soil, sand, sediment, clay also acts as a filter as does the walls of your well. Better than flowing river water anyways.

Only the top layer of the glacier actually melts, and it's in a pretty pristine environment. No doubt they filter the water though, just no need for a lot of chlorine or other things.
