MagicJack URLs?

Question

Hello, do any of you use MagicJack? I have a user who says that he cannot use it because our Trend Micro is blocking the website when he tries to actually make a call. I have already confirmed that magicjack.com is definitely not blocked. I do not have it myself to test, and I have been trying to find this information on Google for nearly an hour with absolutely no leads. Do any of you know what other URL(s) are involved with using that product? Thanks in advance..

What ports does it use? Are they open?

I'm not really sure--I've never used it before and didn't have much of an idea where to start. He says on his personal PC, when he used it before, a page pops up where he makes his call (but he can't seem to get me the URL of that page--I'm trying to see if he can use it on another computer, but he's travelling and it's been difficult for him to find the opportunity), but on the work PC, it comes up with the "website blocked" page for Trend. I know if I can eventually get him on the phone I can probably have him read the URL to me, but I was going to see if anyone here knew.

From their site:

If you are behind a network/external firewall or router, please open port 5060-5070 UDP. Also make sure that the firewall on your router is disabled.

Thanks--I will check that. Although if it is accessing the site, I think this is likely not the problem--Trend runs on the client and would be blocking it on his machine as the last step.

But if I remember right magic jack runs off of a pc at the site. The POS software firewall has to allow those ports as well. The POS software firewall will not block port 80 outbound.

Disclaimer: Remove all software firewalls to prevent stupid crap from happening if behind a router on a otherwise trusted network. They do nothing other than preventing you from doing what you want on your network.

Do you get what ports are, etc?

Are you absolutely certain that the ports are the problem? My father was having lots of problems with his MagicJack, and I spent hours configuring firewalls, antivirus, etc., and it did nothing, even though all indicators pointed to those types of things being the problem.

The actual problem? He needed a shorter phone cord. As short as possible from the USB to the receiver. This eliminated all the problems that seemed to be networking related. If you have a short cable around, give it a try and see if it helps before you rip your hair out trying other things.

Thanks, everyone. Definitely not a port issue. Found out that, despite me having asked twice, he had not in fact forced a manual update on his Trend client reflecting the changes we made here to whitelist magicjack.com. Once I was finally able to get him on the VPN and look at his machine myself, we got it sorted out.

Thanks for the suggestions, sorry it turned out to be kind of a stupid question
