Any Firewalls that block then ask?

Question

Are there ANY (Good) firewalls anymore that are 2way traffic and block then prompt for action?

I have Kaspersky PURE R2 which is supposedly the best firewall there is. Trying Kaspersky IS 2012 and it wont let me configure. Try to block IE as a test and no go IE gets through yada yada. :(

I need a configurable firewall that treats me like I know what I'm doing, not choose for me and let me not configure.

Even the default Windows 7 one can be configured to do that I think. Kaspersky should also but i haven't tried the new version.

You may not wanna do that though as man that thing gets annoying!

I'm OCD bout my system, I had PURE configured happily but being it's based on 2010 technology and R3 isn't out yet it thought I'd try KIS 2012 in the meantime...

I'm really dissappointed. I have tried the default but damn it is difficult if not confusing. I miss sygate :(

Install the free version of Windows 7 Firewall Control (http://www.sphinx-soft.com/Vista/) and you will be prompted for outgoing traffic as well (it will block first and then ask).

I use it and it works great, it blocks then pops up a window asking if you want to - Disable All, Allow All, Incoming, Outgoing - select the one you want and Apply, Apply Once (Current Launch) or Cancel. Cancel keeps it blocked, then will ask again if the program is launched again.

It's free, so give it a try.

Hello,

ESET Smart Security's firewall module has several modes of operation, two of which might be of interest:

? Interactive Mode - prompts for network connections

? Policy Mode - drops connections for which a rule has not been previously created

Perhaps that will be of use to you.

Just out of curiosity, do you work for ESET? :)
