How does IRC work

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm not sure if this is the right channel for this topic.

I am a "virgin" on the IRC thing. I was wondering if anybody know a good IRC(-site(?)) and how am I able to download from other users using IRC?

if your planning on losing your virginity on irc then id recommend visiting one of dalnets more "active" channels, dalnet is definately the sluttiest irc server around.

dalnet lol thats funny god that network sucks now

IRC is not a p2p warez network... its actually designed for hardcore idling.

You run mirc, join a channel, say 'lo', then say nothing for 8 hrs :)

:D :p  :alien: :woot:

32 chans on 5 networks and the only thing talking is global telling me about people using nickserv :/

i find gamesnet or quakenet to be most active as far as relevent chat goes, but efnet is by far the largest.

wrong.

quakenet is the largest

QuakeNet (Ranked #1) 132,384 chans 157,253 users

EFnet (Ranked #2) 34,224 chans 121,320 users

Undernet (Ranked #3) 32,361 chans 110,324 users

IRCNet (Ranked #4) 41,337 chans 100,451 users

thats from www.searchirc.com

you can confirm this by doing /lusers on each of the networks

as some of you suggested.... i visited ircspy.com

i can find the files I would like to download, however... I am still UNABLE to download these.

Kinda of a n00b am I, hey.... forgive me

I read somewhere that you have to give some comments to the bot (whatever that may mean).

My question to you is HOW and WHERE can I give these comments?

You don't happen to be with the RIAA or BSA do you?

If you want to learn about this stuff, go into a channel and ask for help.

They will help you or kick you. Try another channel and repeat process.

The old ways are the best.

IRC is a wonderful place where no one helps n00bs. Its the way it is. Join a linux channel and you will be roasted. Join a xdcc channel and its moderated, msg's get u banned.

I've used irc for 7 or 8 years, I live there really, its an unforgiving place where you learn from mistakes :)

It is a lot safer than it used to be though (the days when IRCnet ruled all)

You luckly have your client set on ignore.

What you do is go into your options Tools - options - dcc - ignore and on the method pull down select disable and then unclick the check box that says Turn Ignore back on in:

You should be good to go if you do that
